WE SAID WE WOULD, AND NOW WE ARE!

Totally official and STW-approved! New and improved, so the previous one is old and inferior! Guaranteed at least 17% more fun! There will be prizes! You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll hurl! Free kitten with every entry! Everything in this paragraph aside from this one final sentence is an outright lie, fight me!

The second STW Quiz is going to take place next Wednesday, the 19th of whatever the hell month we're in now, Octember or Fanuary or who the frank knows any more. Are we allowed outside yet? It's dark and there are wolves. I think I hear my mother calling me.

As ever, your ruggedly handsome and devilishly charismatic hosts will be:
@NBT: Quiz-wrangler.
@RogerMoore: Zoom-wrangler.
@Cougar: Wrangler-of-ceremonies.

I suddenly now realise typing this that we haven't actually agreed a time, such is the gloriously well-oiled machine that we are. So I'm gonna throw a stake in the ground just now as "assemble at 7:30 for an 8pm start". This may change at the behest of my peers if I've bollocksed it up.

Last time around we staggered the running order because we had no clue whether we'd get a take-up of 3,000 or 3, and in the end the Venn diagram of "people who said they were really interested" intersecting with "people who actually turned up" were as close to two disparate circles as makes no odds. But a couple of dozen folk did manage to trap and a great time was (I hope?) had by all, so assuming similar turnout numbers it's gonna be self-managing without requiring further chicanery. TL;DR - it'll be simpler to join this time around.

The quiz will be played via myquiz.org so we’d recommend having two separate devices for the chat and the quiz. Please check that you can load the site in your browser of choice ahead of time. You can sign up to myquiz via various methods but it’s not mandatory, you can just play a one-off by entering the game code on the front page.

The whole thing is automated once rolling, we're - well, NBT is - proposing an 80 question game which once kicked off will take 40 minutes to complete.

I'd suggest setting your Zoom display name to something like ‘forum username (real first name)’ but participation in the Zoom video chat isn't by any means required and you can just play along with the game silently if you like, as ably demonstrated by Perchypanther last time who swerved the chat and still destroyed the lot of us by a very long chalk. Or you can join by voice or via text even, whatever your comfort zone.

If you miss the start of the game you can still join in midway but you won't be able to score points for questions you've missed.

Post-quiz we'll hang out on Zoom until everyone gets bored or falls over. As above, participation in the quiz isn't a prerequisite for joining the chat so if you just want to rock up around 9pm or later and talk bollocks for a bit then that's cool too.

Any questions or to pre-register interest, please post below. Connection details for Zoom and Game will be posted on the day.

I’m going to try and join in so I get to see what you all look like. Though a part of me thinks that if I had one of those police identikit things and made your faces how I imagine them to be, then discovered the truth, it could be a half decent game show.

Does the chat make it a no child zone on the zoom call? I probably need my kids if I’m going to stand a chance on any of the questions.

Hopefully I'll be there again and try to chat some more this time. It was brilliant fun last time but need to improve from last place.

@stwhannah my kids crashed the party last time on and off and it was fine. Think they enjoyed saying hello to everyone

Just give us warning if kids are around then language can be moderated, since beer will be involved.

I see myself more as Gomez than Fester, personally

I'm prone to naughty words but I'll try not to. Or, you could use a headset if you're concerned.

The quiz is wholly web-browser based so you could readily "do a Perchy" and join one but not the other if you liked. Eg, you could drop in for a natter post-9pm after the quiz ended if a quiz isn't your thing.

For what it's worth,

This Wednesday isn't ideal for me either but it was literally the only evening that all three organisers were free at the same time for the next few weeks, and RogerMoore's premium Zoom sub runs out after that making waiting until the middle of next month problematic. It was genuinely a case of tomorrow or not for the foreseeable future.

Which is a point in itself actually - anyone else have a pro Zoom a/c that they wouldn't mind sharing after we've sacked RM?

Update-ette,

I've spoken with the moderators* and asked that tomorrow we have a separate post with All You Need To Know, which they'll sticky and close. We'll keep this thread going for discussion. Once it's all done and dusted and Perchy's beaten everyone again the connection details post can be deleted.

(* man, that feels weird)

I think it's just disabled by default now in your account settings rather than actually broken. Could be wrong. Someone @ me and I'll tell you. (Someone not half the planet.)

@Cougar correct. It was disabled in my settings. Was that change published at all? (rhetorical question, don't expect you to know)

Bumpity Bump, Bumpity Bump,
do do doo,
Bumpity Bump, Bumpity Bump.

I have the quiz details and am awaiting the Zoom details. Once I have both I'm going to start a new thread which our lovely moderation team will then Sticky and close, so discussion will remain here.

I'm advised that the quiz will start at 8pm sharp, it's on a timer in case our esteemed host is running late.

Well I had a cracking night cheers. I was most gratified by some of the cries of anguish when the answers were revealed

If Im not working lates as I dont get home till 830pm

Thats one of the things we talke about last night actually. I think what we decided is that the quiz writer and the zoom host will decide on a date and then we will say "this date, this time". If we need to start a bit later to let people join in then that's easy enough, as long as the date is fixed
