The Skier Cross and Snowboard Cross should be a good watch, Some of the booters are bloody huuuuge, my favourite are the hip jumps on the apex of a corner, so much chance of carnage!
Pity that Palmer didn't make the cut for the USA, my money is on Jacobs to take the win by a country mile, that kid is super talented and super fast.

Have the Russians perfected cloning technology? Only I'm watching the opening ceremony and I'll swear it's the same white-booted lady leading out all the teams.

Oh, and loving the American outfits...

Righto, that's TWO British guys in the final of the snowboard slopestyle, Jamie Nicholls went straight into the finals from the qualifiers, and Billy Morgan only bloody just finished TOP of the semi finals.

08.45 today if you want to show support.

Play it cool rodders, play it cool...

It's like looking down the hahnekham downhill. This slopestyle stuff makes me scared just to watch. When you think how big a tiddly little jumps feels to us mortals, those jumps are immense. Mega cocones!

Up before 8am on a Saturday when I'm not at work to watch the slope style! Should be great.
Men's DH is always the highlight for me but loads of other stuff will have me glued to the tele.

And why the hell would anyone have a problem with Ed Leigh's commentay? Knows his stuff, not a prat, enthusiastic...certainly could be worse.. if it was 99% of other commentators.
Ed and Graham are both bloody good IMO - why knock guys who know what they are talking about and love the sport ?

You are asking a load of cyclists about silly looking sports clothing??? Nah, it's a golf forum you should be on.

As this is a thread for loving, not fighting, all I will say is that Ed Leigh needs to bill himself as a TV presenter, not a 'snowboarder'.

Not a good start for Morgan.

Two GB riders in top 10. I'm havin' that!

Sage and Torstein were two of my favourite riders to watch so pleased Sage managed to get the gold, and possibly marks a change the direction of judging to style and creativity over triple corks with mute grabs.

Should be interesting in super pipe as shaun is hoping to land the first triple, but if its fugly it won't mean shit.

That was ace, well done Jones!

The broken helmet was scary. Not impressed with some of them wearing the helmet over a beanie. There was a faller earlier and the slo-mo showed her helmet was nearly off the back.

Not impressed with some of them wearing the helmet over a beanie.

Most winter sports helmets can be worn with a beanie under without affecting the fit/safety.

You just need to remove the foam pads and the beanie takes up the space.

Bern helmets even come with a beanie specifically to be worn under it if required.

Not to mention the DH, short track speed skating, ice hockey, etc, etc, etc.....

Oh, and re the beanie issue (And hoping it doesn't derail the thread in to ANOTHER helmet debate...! 🙂 )

Yes, wearing a beanie under a helmet is fine. I often do it in really cold conditions (Thin Oakley beanie under a Smith lid). The key here, though is the fit of the helmet. A lot of those competing in the slopestyle had goggles under helmet, with a beanie, and what looked like a badly fitted helmet. Viz the way that both goggles and helmet were pushed back on the head after a run. The helmet should fit a lot more securely than many of them were running theirs, and that's the problem. Not the beanie. (I suspect that it's a little bit of a 'too kool for skool' mentality in there, sadly, a bit like MTB DH racers opting for gnar-pyjamas rather than something more aero that would save precious time in a run!)

Yeah but....... Silje Norendal.....

I think I'm in love.

Men's downhill was great - I always root for the Austrians and good to see a young guy winning. Why was it so early on in the games though, is it always like that? I thought it was one of the main events so you'd think they would build up to it.

Good start from the Mens curling team. Would be expecting them to win all of their group games, maybe getting away with one loss on their way to the semi finals.

Glad it's not just me with that one flashy! Always seemed a bit odd - ditto the baggy styles when doing tricks/jumps aerobatics on skis etc?

Grum, does seem very odd the timetabling of the DH, I agree. It's all gone in a flash. I think this happened before as well.

The Russian lady/girl skater doing the girl in the red dress/Schindlers list was a great performance. Such flexibility and poise.

With the SBX (much like MTB DH) they decided that for the good of the sport they would all run softboots rather than alpine, same for the lack of skinsuits etc. Again, Shaun Palmer was involved so he saved another sport from disappearing up its own bottom,
With the slopestyle there's none of the excessive baggy styles that we used to wear, the ladies all looked fine yesterday in rather bottom hugging trousers!
The mens slalom is traditionally the final "big ticket" race, this should be on the last weekend.

Women's super combined was a pretty thrilling finish. Loved Mancuso's reaction on crossing the line.

And regarding ridiculous commentary whines, maybe they could ask Rob Warner to step in 🙂

Can't believe 300 people complained. The enthusiasm of the commentators was very infectious and reminded me of the aforementioned Mr Warner's commentary on Danny Hart's World Champs victory a couple of years back.
