With scarcely believable daily doses of wtf decisions, incompetance, a madman at the helm, a split US nation, world discontent and instability, which past Hollywood film is most likely to become reality?
OK, a mini series rather than a film, but The Handmaid's Tale
Team America
Another vote for Idiocracy. Just a pity we don't get Terry Crews instead of the Musk Trumpet.
Mad max (in a year or so)
Burn After Reading.
Idiots just seeing things through because it's their job/what they think they're supposed to do!
Threads.
1984?
Falling down x 1000000 give or take a zero.
Saw the thread title and my first thought was Idiocracy but I'm starting to think that might be best case scenario
Dumb & Dumber
Naked Gun/ The President’s Brain is Missing (Spitting Image)
Not quite the question asked, but I was very impressed by Mark Ruffalo's Trump character in Mickey 17 when I watched it this evening.
Back To The Future 2. Specifically the timeline where Biff has the almanac
In answer to my own OP question, a whole list of films that shouldn't be possible aren't outside the realms of possibility. The jackal, civil war and even any of the '.....have fallen' films seem plausible amongst a whole host of others. I guess it depends on whether the internal US troubles occur first.
My first thought was Idiocracy, but Civil War is also up there. I really don't think that there is enough division on a state level to make for a Civil War scenario though; the ideals split seems to be throughout the entire country and not just Western States.
Handmaid's Tale could happen, there's enough of that mixing of misogyny, religion and partisanship to make it a reality, but I think Brazil is more likely. There are already people being detained...
The Matrix. An updated version - AI takes over, creates all the online content and humans all sit in a grid staring at it on their phones. I think it's actually what the kids want.
Wait a few years, and probably "The Road"
Iron Skies
Well there has been a lot of Muppets films....
Idiocracy is nearest the mark right now.
Trump is lazy, unfocused and petulant. He lacks the wit and focus to get much actually done.
Vance however is only a heartbeat away from the Presidency in which case "The Handmaid's Tale" is more likely
1984, the control being exerted over the propaganda and the crushing of alternative narratives to those offered by the Trump administration is actually quite an accurate depiction, especially the claims of defending freedom while actually doing the exact opposite.
OK, a mini series rather than a film, but The Handmaid's Tale
Came here to say that.
One of the Carry On's? You chose.
Some good suggestions, right enough. I'm still veering towards 'A Boy and His Dog,' currently free on Prime:
Hey I’m watching A Boy and his Dog. Check it out now on Prime Video!

It's all such an unbelievable shambles so I think something more like National Lampoon's (one of, take yer pick) is probably more realistic.
Falling down captures the mood

The scale of events may have gone beyond personal tragedy though
edit sorry about the swearies
