I've been in the "avoid buying American" since the election in November.

We go married in Florida nearly 25 years ago (we were there when the eeeejits voted in W over Al Gore and  the biassed Supreme court wouldn't have a recount as the 5 Republicans overruled the democratic members knowing it would have given the win to Gore).  25th anniversary holiday... ruled out a return to Florida on principle that we're not putting a single penny into their economy if we can help it for at least the next 4 years (longer if they elect another moron).  We're putting our dosh into the European economy.

Next car is European or Japanese (as per another thread, avoiding American-owned like Stellantis).

I've been a Hope fan fanboi for 2 decades so British for all the bits they make. And Shimano all the way over SRAM, except sadly the shifters on the gravel bike have modified SRAM shifters.   Next dropper is absolutely not a Fox or Rock Shox. Etc.

Whilst i won't single handedly sink the American economy, at least O know I'm not unnecessarily propping it up.

Looks like Trump will have to deal with a big brain north of his boarder. Mark Carney.

If there's something good to come from this, its that Dump's antics have hopefully improved the Canadian Liberal Party's standing.  Because there's already too many  Right Wing  neo fascist loons in or near power in too many countries already Erdoğan, Orban, and the scum like Chrupalla in Germany, Le Pen in France, Farage in Britain hovering like shit around flies.  Nobody needs Poilevre in charge of Canada. He's not safe enough to even be allowed to be in charge of cleaning out wheelie bins.

Ironic that Trumps actions have reinvigorated the Canadian liberals.

Are there any non-US alternatives to Strava?

I've got a cousin in Canada, somewhere in Whitehorse.

Which is coincidentally the source of the Trump fortune; that brothel ended up starting something bigly...

I don't think it's just Canada. It's no surprise to me that just after Trump starting mouthing off about Europe the huge swing to the right in the German elections did come to pass quite as expected, on the back of the largest turnout seen for a very long time.

There was still a swing to the right in Germany, maybe not quite the numbers that could have been predicted with much of the media focusing on immigration in the months leading to the election, and it was quite  a noticeable old east/west split, the Afd was still the second largest party.

However at least the CDU/CSU and the SDP probable alliance looks to be creating investment in the economy, policies that they were attacking the "loony left" for in the campaigning. Maybe something that Starmer could note instead of continuing his waltz to the right.

I still say that one of the most important actions that any government needs to take to protect democracy is taking the distorting affect of oligarchy funding out of politics and lobbying groups, we can not have anything near to true democracy while this is still allowed.

Yes but as I said "the huge swing to the right in the German elections did come to pass quite as expected". It doesn't look as though they will be part of the coalition.

Not any use to most, but I have just realised Polar Watches (who I use) are Finnish.

Airforce 2 spent a lot of time on the tarmac of Whitehorse airport during trumps first term. Members of his family were in the Yukon trophy hunting, I believe.

Pretty sure Stellantis are European

Stellantis is european, with half it profits coming from the US with its big staples of the US automotive industry like Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram.
aiui Prices went up and volume reduced with sales and quality/reliability dropping under fiat ownership, market share continues to drop after stellantis acquisition as they've ruined the dealer network

Doesn't appear to be anything. I've just cancelled my Strava subscription.

It was in any event less useful after they cancelled the FatMap feature.

EDIT: there's FitoTrack which looks kind of interesting.

Ed Davey doing what Ed Davey does best.

"I think if President Trump gets away with this type of behaviour, whether it's Canada or anyone else, frankly, it's going to harm everybody in the world," said Davey as he dug into a plate of poutine.

What even *is* poutine?

I love Poutine, french fries, cheese curds and gravy. Sounds disgusting but I love it and it’s has to be cheese curds and not grated cheese.

Lived there 11 years, could never convince myself to have poutine. It's the curds part - if it was cheese I probably would've, but curds and gravy 🤮

Poutine is the second best thing about going to Whistler.

Closed my Amazon account. I had an AWS account as well, so I needed to wrap that up first. The tiny amount of money involved is not going to do anything I guess but I have to start somewhere.

Are there any recommendations for email providers based in the UK or EU? I don't mind paying. That's the next thing on my list.

Big step. Well done. I can’t do that yet… but you’ve got me going back to look at it again.

Trying to get ready for an Adobe free world is proving a pain as well.

I had the chat work about moving away from Google and Facebook for advertising but no one else seems bothered. Our two biggest American suppliers, may £70-80k/year between them.

Any tips, other than 'its the right thing to do'? Suggestions for viable alternatives would help (retail sale of upper mid-market, mostly men's, clothing)

God knows how to get rid of Microsoft, but at least Bill Gates appears to be one of the good guys

Put "**** Trump" on the front of the clothes instead?

But seriously, we use the SM platforms for digital marketing as well. That's where the audience is so what can you do?

We're actually going in more on TikTok lately, but that's another can of worms eh?

I did actually suggest we try local newspapers for some of our services (it would be a good fit), but I think that will always be a little add on rather than the main show.

Canadians also have a reputation for being somewhat 'enthusiastic' at war time.

Keep seeing this mentioned - anyone like to suggest a suitable search term so I can find out more

moving away from Google and Facebook for advertising

Yeah, good luck with that.

"Let's stop using Google, Facebook, Microsoft, AWS and Adobe in our business" = "let's stop advertising almost entirely and shut the business down"

Also let's not forget Intel, AMD, Nvidia, Dell, HP (etc etc...) and we might as well throw in any Chinese company while we're at it.

The thought might be good but it's not realistically possible for most companies.
