Heads up, eyes down, knees abreast, breasts aknee, elbows akimbo, it's that time again.

Your ever-expanding team of ruggedly handsome quizmasters is proposing to hold the fourth STW quiz, which after much debate we're running with a working title of Quiz Number Four on the evening of Thursday the 16th of December in the year of your lords 2021.

Details TBC, this is a placeholder. Hold that place.

I'm in, providing support (mentally and physically), tea, beer and snacks for the quiz master.
Best sparkly Christmas attire ready and waiting.

Cougar - you may want to change the title, I read it as The 4th meaning the 4/12/21

I no longer have such abilities I'm afraid.

Eh, I'm happy with filtering out people who can't read. Sort of a natural selection.

How does this work?

You join the zoom meeting (link provided closer to the time). You can use video and audio if you like, or turn off your camera and mike and just listen/watch. For this one, I'll be sharing a slideshow with the questions and reading / interpreting / adding deliberately misleading suggestions, so it will help to see the slideshow. Some are picture based so you need to see the screen, and there's a music round where I'll play audio for you to listen and find the answers. You'll need some way to note down your answers (pen and paper or something more technologically advanced if you prefer), and once we've run through all the questions we will have a break for refreshments. I'll go over any questions that need repeating, then we'll go through the answers. You'll mark your own, as were all in disparate locations. We'll then sit around and talk bollocks until there's no one left standing.

At least, that's how it's gone when I've run this quiz in the past...

Badly? (-:

To add to nbt's fairly comprehensive reply,

We've run with varying quiz formats but the core idea remains the same. It's all very informal and we want to be as inclusive as possible. If you want to take part in the quiz but are camera-shy, that's cool. If you want to come hang out on Zoom and watch the quiz but have no interest in actually playing, that's cool too.

Typically we keep the channel open after the quiz to chew the fat and talk the toot until everyone falls over so if you want to join us later then again, that's also fine. Whatever works for you is good.

Oh, what I would ask though (and I'll shore this up nearer the time), if you're Zooming then stick your name in as something like "Real Name (forum name)" so we know who the hell you are. Unless you want to remain anonymous. (-:

Yeah, part of it is striking a balance in terms of frequency and part of it is good old-fashioned apathy.

We have now, I think, sufficient material and volunteer quizmasters for at least the next three quizzes. NBT is running next week's; Duncan has proffered himself for #5 which we've pencilled in for between Christmas and New Year; and I'm going to chair #6 at some point in 2022.

I've another three or four quizzes waiting to be used, though I may combine them to get just 2 or 3 with the best rounds. Or they can sit there if we have other volunteers who fancy stepping up to run something

I will attempt to participate, and get the audio feed working. It works on the set up demo, and i have used it successfully 1 to 1. In group zoom meeting scenarios it refuses to play ball.

I do like the Whigfield song. It's my aim to get it played on Radcliffe & Maconie, hopefully on The Chain

Hang on a minute. How did I miss this. Thursday you say? This coming thursday! Well bugger me. I will try and remember, but quite probably, true to form, I will tune in just as the final question is being asked.

Hopefully see you all there.

Question 1: what time is this all kicking off? The quiz, not the arguing and arjee-barjee ( that'll be 30 seconds later)

We're suggesting assembling at 7:30pm for preamble and badinage with a view to starting the quiz proper at 8pm.

Historically we've had the precursor chat (ie, this one) closed and started a new thread with connection details prior to starting so that instructions don't get lost in the chatter. Not that anyone ever reads the $%^&ing things anyway, but here we are.

Sounds good.

I have a works Christmas Quiz at 4 - 5pm and then this at 8 so hopefully I won't be too quizzed out!

Roughly how long does the quiz part of the quiz take? Obviously the drinking and tautological arguments go on until a little while after the next one starts.

Should be an hour or so including going throug the answers, depending on breaks for refreshments / people asking for repeats / general name calling

These are the rounds:

Killer or Coder (10 questions)
Quiz Link (6 questions)
In Sequence (6 questions)
Famous Queens (6 questions)
The music round(10 questions)
Tech True Or False (6 questions)
Quiz Chain (6 questions)
Where is Kazakhstan? (6 questions)
General Knowledge (10 questions)
