4 yr ban likely. His team calling foul play. UFC must be gutted he's the biggest draw they have.

Diaz bros wont fight unless they get paid more, Stipe wont fight until he gets a new contract. Connor clearly fighting Mallinaggi next!

Edit: I've also got the feeling GSP will be a damp squib.

Never thought I'd say this but I have to give him the benefit of the doubt. Obviously Jackson Wink are flying close to the wire regarding supplements but they've been adamant (and correct) pretty much every time one of their fighters gets popped.

It beggars belief that he could be so stupid in the face of completely random testing.

This is the dude who hit a pregnant lady in his car. Ran away, then ran back to grab 'items' from the car then legged it again.

But even with that, I still struggle to see him being that stupid, especially given what has come before and the fact what he was popped for is apparently really easy to detect. You'd think if he was juicing he'd be on that top secret Lance Armstrong shit.

Too bad about Mighty Mouse and Ray Borg, but there are actually some great match ups on the main card.

Main Card

Amanda Nunes (135) vs. Valentina Shevchenko (133.5) – for women’s bantamweight title
Rafael dos Anjos (170) vs. Neil Magny (169.5)
Henry Cejudo (125.5) vs. Wilson Reis (125)
Ilir Latifi (205.5) vs. Tyson Pedro (205.5)
Gilbert Melendez (146) vs. Jeremy Stephens (146)

The last time Nunes and Schevchenk fought was a pretty entertaing - hoping to see some Russian victory dancing.

UFC 216. Any takers? I've got Werdum by submission, DJ by tko and Tony Ferguson by TKO at 37.9 - 1 on an accumulator. Anyone else watching?

I'll be catching up tomorrow as usual. Might catch the Fight Pass prelims.

In just the fights I am interested in:

Tony Ferguson vs. Kevin Lee via RNC. Although Tony will probably just knock him out.
Demetrious Johnson (c) vs. Ray Borg - Via submission.
Fabrício Werdum vs. Derrick Lewis - Going for the Black Beast getting an uppercut in early.
Bobby Green vs. Lando Vannata - Just because I find him an exciting fighter. Kick to the head.
Walt Harris vs. Mark Godbeer - Only Brit fighting. So got to pull for him.

Not that I am not interested in other fights, just don't enough about who's fighting.

As an aside, the Bellator event from last night was quite entertaining. Will 100% be watching Mousassi's first fight on the 20th.

Honestly, I am just ****ing about a bit.

I imagine DJ will just hit Borg from a million different angles in the clinch.
Werdum will go to work on the ground as Lewis cardio fades.
Tony F will do some crazy 10th Planet shit and choke Kevin out.

I still think my boy Groovy Lando will win.

But fudge it. I'll chuck a fiver on my original predictions.

Slightly conservatively I've gone for a treble

TF KO
FW Points
DJ Points

£10 gets £265 odd

Also TF to win in round 3 at 9/1

UFC 217 this weekend.

Most excited for Garbrant vs Dillashaw – remember being utterly blown away by the former’s performance against Cruz. I’ll be interested to see if Dillashaw can keep up his usual level of aggression while avoiding Garbrant’s power.

I’ve got a very low level of investment in Bisping vs. St. Pierre, although this doesn’t mean that I don’t think it could possibly be fun. I just have very little desire to see St. Pierre looking diminished.

Really interested to see Masvidal vs. Thompson – especially if the former can show the sort of form he did against Cerrone.

Weirdly, I keep getting an inkling that Namajunas will upset Jedrzejczyk – this is based on literally nothing; she should be tailor-made for Joanna to take apart.

I went from meh....to fully invested in the space of one day. There are some really excellent fights on this, as you say Masvidal v Thompson, my fellow Donegal man Joe Duffy v James Vick and Aimann Zahabi down there on the Fightpass prelim.

I think Rose is such a cool customer it always appears she knows something. If she can get JJ onto the ground she can probably finish her but Joanna's takedown defence is pretty good. Some of her jiu jitsu has looked a bit workmanlike though so I think if Rose can get her back in a scamble it could be lights out.

I can see Bisping by decision or GSP by submission. Garbrandt by decision. Joanna by decision or tko with a slight chance of Rose getting a sub. I'd also stump for Mickey Gall and Aimann Zahabi by submission. . . maybe 😉

I just put straight accumulator on. Not like I am in anyway correct.

Well, I do feel GSP is going to sub Bisping.

I am really interested in the Micky Gall fight, as this is kind of his first proper matchup. CM Punk was a joke, and I think Sage was thrown in there too early. Randy Brown has decent BJJ, trains at Matt Serra BJJ, so feel he will be the first dude Gall's faced in the UFC who can match him on the ground.

Yeah I feel as though if GSP does finish Bisping it'll be by sub. He's been working with Gordan Ryan, Garry Tonon etc for his camp so the impression certainly seems very bjj heavy. At least from social media. Apparently Bisping has a wrecked knee, and John Danaher etc specialise in leg locks, but they are difficult to pull off in mma, so I feel GSP may be looking for a leg lock to sweep and transition to the back.

Mickey Gall also looks to have popped up with Firas/Danaher and he's already a legit world class grappler. Dunno if he has his black belt yet but he's black belt level. Randy Brown is a purple belt and I'm not sure if he's on MG's level grappling wise. I could see another rear naked choke.

Speaking of rear naked chokes - had to share these. Only tenuously relevant but there might be one or two people here who'll find them funny - from Because_jiujitsu on instagram. Combining two of my favourite things Rick and Morty and strangling people 😆

In terms of his jiu jitsi Mickey Gall is the real deal - he went to a decision in a competitive match with Gordon Ryan all the way back in 2015 so his grappling is world class. In terms of his overall mma game though it's too early to say. I'm still favouring him for a win via rnc.

And the other 40% of the time you get 100%?

Heart says Rose head JJ.

Cant see Cody losing but cant see TJ losing on points either (so Cody k.o?)

Got a feeling wondrboy will win and think it'll be on points.

I'll take your advice on the rest.

That was incredible from start to finish. I can't remember a better event off the top of my head. Incredible displays of martial arts and MMA from start to finish.

With the excetoption of Conor McGregor's fights I don't think a UFC or a psorting event has ever caused me to have such a roller coaster of emotions.

Powerful, awesome, incredible.

Jamie - Member

Well, he showed that he's not a complete MMA fighter yet but he also showed what an accomplished bjj player can do in mma. The only reason he got out of round one was because of his BJJ skills and his display in rnd 2 was just beautiful.

I'll admit to being slightly biased because Gall's side control to crucifix game is exactly my bjj game and it was awesome to see it in the octagon.

It was obviously even better to see GSP choke out Bisping (who I like) but just the speed and fluidity that GSP rendered Bisping unconscious with was incredible. That one fight card had more drama and more excitement than a year of boxing.

Awesome. Simply awesome.

I was so happy to see Rose take out Joanna jdrzrzrzek, a class fighter she may be but she lacks any class outside the ring. I know there's smack talking but she either takes it way to far or she's just a ****, I suspect the latter.

Wow! Cant believe Bisping is doing that.

Saw his wages for 217 $500k and GSP got over $2mil. I think I'd want more if I was Bispibg. Maybe ppv points are added?

As champ he wuld get ppv points. GSP's pay is based on him renegotiating a his contract / returning as the goat.

Well he was choked out, so apart from cuts due to elbows, he mightn't have taken any real damage. If it had been a tko or ko there would have been (I think) a min 3 month or 6 month medical suspension.

Lacklustre card last night but the main event was pure fire. And Matt Brown v Diego......omg.

Yeah, poor Mike. Although it's an even worse note to go out on, he really should retire. Easy to say in hindsight but he should have retired after the GSP fight. There's no shame in being choked out by maybe the GOAT.

He's expressed an interest in doing grappling comps - that would be a good way for him to segway into semi retirement.

Holy shit that was incredible. I didn't see the Fightpass prelims but the FS1 fights were unbelievable. If you didn't see them check out Cowboy Olivera against Yancy Medaeiros and Charles Olivera vs Paul Felder. Olivera vs Medaeiros might be fight of the year.

The UFC is delivering pure fire at the minute an next week it's Robbie Lawler vs RDA and Cub Swanson vs Brian Ortega....good googly moogly. Unreal.

Yeah, reminded me of Lawler vs McDonald in 2015.

You've got to feel for Aldo somewhat; he still looked like he could beat most of the division, but it seems like Holloway is his limit. Can't wait to see Holloway against some of the new blood, like Magomedsharipov and Volkanovski (the sawn-off Cain Velasquez).

Most impressed by Eddie Alverez against Gaethje; just superb composure. Didn't expect to see him get that finish. Lightweight division remains stubbornly bonkers - top 10 seems no clearer in my mind.

Really hope Overeem retires. Can't see it.

The MMA gods are unpredictable

...not to mention fickle. And cruel. But I'm optimistic. Interesting to see Khabib was pretty much just drilling arm bars and back takes at the open work out.

It's either Barboza taking multiple trips on Khabib Airlines then ending in a sub, or Khabib getting a shin to the jaw and getting KTFO in RD1.

I'd also really like to see Holly Holm win. Mostly as I always like to root for the David in these David v Goliath matchups.

I think Holly has a great chance. She's a great counter striker and she does her best work against aggressive opponents. I don't think she can KO Cyborg but she can certainly evade and out point.

Numagomedov Barbosa seems to write itself alright. I'm hoping some kind of resolution, either Khabib's hype train derails in spectacular fashion or he makes an even more hyperbolic statement of intent.

still looking for Numagomedov weaknesses... just had to much strength and just controlled the whole thing even if he didnt finish it.

Similar story for Cyborg, just too powerful and strong for Holm to really do any damage although she didnt really land much anyway.

Facebook just seems full of people calling cyborg a man 🙄

His entries into the clinch and takedown are an obvious opening for an opponent who's willing to meet him and swing. Also, it's easy to say in hindsight but Barboza was only looking to escape - he had opportunities to pull guard. Someone with a dangerous guard (ie Ferguson) might do well. He's obviously an insanely talented grappler but Barboza and Johson made no effort to engage in a grappling match with him.

Not strength, technique and pressure.

Anyway, I'm back on board the hype train and very excited to see him against Ferguson.
