Since competing the UFC just the one which he avenged against a larger stronger man!

'He won't be able to do that at UFC level' - he did

'He won't be able to do that to a top five contender' - he did

'He won't be able to do that to a high level wrestler' - he did

'He won't be able to do that to Aldo' - he did

'He won't be able to do that at light weight' - guess what??

'He won't be able to touch Maywether' - What happens next...who knows but as said before I don't know how, but I wouldn't bet my house on a Maywether win...would you?

Not at those odds its not worth it.

I see Mcgregor doing OK in first half of this fight but getting properly knackered half way through and either being stopped or massively outpointed in second half of fight.

Mcgregor has power/accuracy of a pro boxer imo, but Mayweather hardly ever gets hit and can also take a punch if he does.

Draaaaaaaaging this back to MMA, nice to have Holly Holm get a win!

Yep. Hollie is a bad ************. The fact that De Randamie is vacating the title just highlights how she didn't deserve the belt. It's fair to say Bethe was not on her level but she deserves a slightly easier fight to get back in the win column.

Holly Holm has always been immensely likeable - always had a great attitude.
It's unfortunate then that she's basically a point fighter. Unless she's being chased she's boring to watch sadly. Headkick KOs aren't boring of course but up until then it was a snoozefest.
Not sure what the UFC do with her at this point, although if she wins the belt again I could easily see her retiring.

I'm with junky on this one! The hardest people to box are not folks who don't box..!! They may be unconventional but they also don't have a clue..

I've sparred a few times against rank amateurs at a club. Strangely they weren't bamboozled by my awful technique!

Not saying I'm as good a boxer as mcgregor, clearly he'd destroy me within seconds. But the gulf in class would be similar I expect

FYI I don't think I landed one clean punch and pretty sure I broke my nose!

I'm definitely going to put a few quid on McGregor, probably for a second or 3rd round ko. More than anything so that if I do stay up for the fight I'll have some kind of involvement instead of just being detached, which may well be the case considering the totally pointless spectacle of it all.

Pig Face ... No where for one second have I said he will win...by all rights he most certainly shouldn't.

However I just don't think you can say there is no chance Connor could win...he could.

ATM I can't see how, just never say never that's all.

I wouldn't put much on Conor let alone my house but there are a lot of folk saying that it is a certainty nothing is certain in the fight game...he may not be a boxer but he's a fighter and can most certainly handle the pressure not to mention that left hand!!

ok what odds?

IMHO connor would need to fight him a thousand times to beat him once[ with his lucky punch].

The question was would I, not have I. 🙂 It's been suggested that Conor's only hope is to be unusual and whilst I agree with that (49 boxers from usual to very special have lost so far), I don't think there's anything THAT unusual he can do against arguably the greatest exponent of defensive boxing there's ever been. Against an aggressive, come-forward fighter, Conor has the fabled puncher's chance. Against Floyd? If it happens, it's a fix.

I do wonder if Floyd's mobility would be good enough to win (or at least not get taken down or kicked unconcious) in the octagon...? 🙂

Do wonder if there's a rematch clause - how well can he run? Dude's prett agile, I bet Conor can't kick as fast as he punches, and Floyd doesn't get hit too often.... 🙂

(This isn't particularly a serious train of thought, BTW)

Doesn't matter. When you're inside kicking range you're still outside punching range, and a traditional boxing stance leaves you vulnerable to legs kicks, liver kicks and takedowns. James Toney demonstrated exactly what happens when a boxer gets ideas above his station.

I imagine Conor will get good promotional mileage out of the fact that he is stepping down to Floyd's level, competitively speaking. Along with the fact Floyd Mayweather beats up women.

Lots mentioned about the 'left hand' but how many times other than the aldo knock out has mcgregor sparked someone with one punch. Remember he can't jump on them afterwards, so if he does land he realistically needs Floyd to not be able to get up. I genuinely don't know as I do watch much mma , but I did see the Diaz fights, and despite landing numerous times with small gloves he didn't put him down

Floyd's never been legitimately knocked down in his career

He took a knee against Carlos Hernandez when Floyd hurt his left hand and needed time to recover

His glove skiffed the ground against Judah although it was ruled a slip.

Exactly Bob.. Floyd is near impossible to hit.. But when he is he's not glass chinned. Last time I saw him get hit flush was by mosely.. And he did not go down.

Thing is with mayweather he never over commits, so he isn't hit coming in. When he is tagged he's ready for it, sees it coming, and is on balance.

I'd say mcgregor would win this once out of 100 times at best. That said, stranger things have happened which is the only reason I'm not putting my life savings on mayweather winning because it does look like very easy money.
What is McGregors chin like?

His chin could be the second coming of George Chuvalo and it still won't matter.

Mayweather last "knockout" was a sucker punch against renowned bottle merchant Victor Ortiz.

Before that he KO'd Ricky Hatton's corpse

Conor's chin is irrelevant. Floyd will do what he does best. Defensive masterclass throughout, counter punching his way to a wide decision, maybe losing 1 or 2 rounds at best as he adjusts to Conor's style in the first couple of rounds.

I'm a fan of McG in UFC and Mayweather in boxing but to my surprise this doesn't interest me one iota. For the reasons above I hope Mayweather embarrases him as it's the most blatant money making scam since Trump stood for president.

Floyd snr. trying to get a word in edgeways against McGregor at the post press conference press conference was pretty funny. Probably the best thing to come out of the whole sham so far.

The fact that arguably the best competitor in the sport's history is fighting a 0-0 fighter should probably highlight how much credibility it currently has, but I guess there always has and always will be an entertainment component in the fight game.

C'mon

No disputing Floyd's skill and talent, but his timing outside the ring is even better than his timing inside. In his peak years, he deliberately chose to fight people that were either past their best (ODLH, Mosley, Cotto), were green (Alvarez) or were just completely pointless (Guerrero, Berto)

The fact he's fighting someone with zero boxing experience should come as no surprise. It's all about the money

You would think, but apparently it's from 2015. Certainly wouldn't be the first time an incredibly wealthy young boxer with a giant entourage and a flair for spending money went bust.

Their last fight was a lot more competitive than most people give Cormier credit for. Unfortunately DC just lacks the right weight division (and also the discipline) to fight people a similar size to himself.

I have not stayed up to watch an event in a while, but this one is just so ridiculous I think it's worth it. But got to be out early and alert, so probably best I don't pull an allnighter.

...now if I had Jon Jones coke hook up, it'd be a different story.

I better make sure I don't check my Skybet account, as if I see I have money in there, then I know Evinger won 😀

Cormier either wasn't on form today or his strategy was wrong He just really seemed like he wanted to grapple but didn't really commit. Hands open. Moving forward constantly. Low guard. And receive a kick to the head. Jones has some lovely reach.

Don't think I've felt worse for a defeated fighter than I did for Cormier. They really, really need to stop interviewing ko'd fighters.

Jones looked undeniable, despite Cormier's improvements.

I too want nothing more than to see Woodley win 10 straight title defences in exactly that same manner. Dana White is the most repellent thing about the promotion, and possibly the whole sport. He's now saying he'll deny Woodley the GSP fight.

Loved Cowboy vs Lawler. Glad neither got finished.

Cormier was heart breaking in defeat, going to take him a long time to get over I imagine.

Joe on his podcast always moans that he thinks it wrong to interview ko'd fighters and won't do it anymore, so not sure what happened last night, maybe dc indicates he wanted to comment but didn't look that way.

That Woodley fight was awful and miars game plan frustrating.

Was happy for cyborg to get her belt at last and Lawler fight was ace.

We really going to get Brock vs. Jones? Might as well book McGregor vs. Jones as well.

Oezdemir vs Gustafsson to decide the next title shot? Too soon for the former maybe?

Jones vs Lesnar at Madison Square Garden would makes sense in terms of maximum money-gawp. When's Lesnar's suspension up?

Jones seemed pretty candid about not wanting to fight Miocic; too good and insufficiently lucrative.

I want to see him fight Cain: superficially, a bigger, scarier version of DC, and the fact that he's DC's best mate adds an extra level of investment.

Jones v Lesnar would be ridiculous (in a bad way), would begin to turn UFC into a freak show.

Jones v Gustaffson 2 would be awesome, the first bout was a classic in my eyes.

Credit to DC and I am gutted for him, an actual gentleman in how he carries himself, respect champ.....

Manuwa was a major disappointment, Cowbow v Ruthless, wow......!

Woodley, meh....Proper respect to him but not a card headliner, but kudos for winding Dana up!! I do think he's got the skills and explosiveness to give a proper show, but is he more concerned with "legacy"?

Good card altogher though, bring on May-Mac.... 😉

There's nothing ridiculous about Jones v Lesnar (other than the proposed timescale). Jones is taller, has alonger reach and was about 240lbs prior to the OSP fight. He obviously has unfinished business at LHW with Gustaffson but my feeling is that if Jones actually trains, and doesn't party the week of the fight he'll smash Gustaffson.

After that he's done at LHW, there are precious few legitimate contenders and the division will never recapture the rivalry and hype JJ had with DC. A move up to heavyweight creates a marketing narrative and creates an argument for him being the GOAT.

It's worth remembering he's trained with Overeem and Arlovski for years now. A fight with Brock is a great way to springboard his heavyweight campaign with the biggest amount of hype possible. Baring a lucky shot, Jones will destroy Lesnar. Easily. Followed by the belt.

Not a bad card, but I hoped for an amazing card.

Lawyer v Cowboy was superb, possibly had it as a Draw, thought Cowboy was unlucky to lose.

woodley was supreme, but it was a tedious fight.

Cyborg was always winning that, but the other girl was tough as anything

i loved the little kick to unbalance DC after Jones's first head kick, shows he's got a true fighting brain. others would have kept on pounding the head, and it would have ended up on the fence, and DC would have maybe survived. Jones is the real deal, but really do not want to see a Lesnor fight, it's got no integrity.

Nine days till Mayweather vs McGregor; the hype train is gathering steam. Nevada state athletic commission have sanctioned the use of 8oz gloves. Conor McGregor dished out a "one sided beating*" to former WBA Welterweight world champ Pauli Malinaggi after Malinaggi had previously commented that he would beat McGregor with one hand tied behind his back.

*Dana White is not known for his honesty or his consistency but according to Brendan Schaub, Malignaggi admitted in private that McGregor was much harder to fight that he imagined, due in part to his un-orthdox style and his speed.

of a fat retired Paulie

...who fought the Commonwealth champ four months ago...

dodging punches and falling on his arse

...getting knocked down

He wasn't even that good when he was active and at his fighting weight

No he was just a world champion with 44 professional fight, who could beat McGregor with one hand tied behind his back. Like everyone who's ever boxed apparently.

I'd like to see how many 0-0 non boxers with no boxing experience can spar with a former world champion for one round, nevermind 12. Say what you want, it's time to admit McGregor can actually box.

PSA of sorts. Polaris 5 (which is a submission only bjj competition) is live on UFC Fightpass now. I know there are a few people here who subscribe and there are usually free trials. There are a few competitors regular mma fans should know including Caol Uno, Brad Pickett, Jake Shields as well as arguably two of the best bjj exponents in the world - Garry Tonon and Dillon Danis.

The prelims are on now and can often be more fun than the main events because amateurs are more inclined to go for a sub than cruise for a draw.

lol...wtf.

How broke is his dick?

Such a waste of a career. He could be #1 without them, yet well....****. At least DC can say he only lost to a doper.

Bet the UFC are pleased this news comes out when their brand is getting the most attention it's ever gotten due to the McG/Mayweather fight.
