You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
It was on Channel 4 last night if anyone saw it. The tories did not come out of it looking like they were anything other than a bunch of corrupt money grubbing pigs.
But as usual, they seem to be made of Teflon, and 'explained' it away as nothing illegal, which was accepted.
Interesting whom the Russians chose.
Not the lib dems, or even Red Labour. Nope they went for the tories because it is understood by Moscow that the tories are the party of corruption, and will do anything to get their grubby little hands on some free cash.
What was the programme called so I can find it to catch up?
Strippers, Spies & Russian Money: Dispatches
They’re paid up members of the post-truth club now.
English literature has shown us how best to deal with those who illicit wealth off of the enemies of England.
It's getting to the point where organised criminal groups like the Mafia have more morals than this bunch of corrupt, lying charlatans.
Enabling Brexit I reckon will go down in history as the cheapest exercise in destabilising your enemies since the Reichstag Fire.
Bet they've already burnt all the evidence and paid off loads of folk - wonder who'll be the first whistle-blower, Gove?
Any whistleblower won't be somebody with morals it'll be the first one to spot a new grift opportunity
Not the lib dems, or even Red Labour.
I didn't watch it but is it because the Russian oligarch billionaires aren't lefties?
It might explain why they don't "even" support Red Labour.
The aims of the russian state ( one of them) are to destablise the UK and the EU and bribing tories as the party in power is the best and cheapest way to do this - and has proved very successful in destabilising the Uk if much less so the EU. they did lots of funding of the brexiteers
The oligarch bribery also paid off when sanctions came in for Russians following the invasion of Ukraine. the ones with UK interests were given time to move their money before sanctions.
Before the Tories became prisoners of Brexit, even they would tend to fall on their sword when blatant corruption, links to neo nazis, bullying and racism were exposed.
Now? Boris has proven that you don't leave public office until you are pushed. Hard. Doesn't matter what you do/ did, lock down parties, crashing the economy, bungs, you name it. Tough it out and see if you can ride the storm.
If you can't? No problem. Lose your government position, sure, but still get paid and DEFINITELY no court time let alone prison time.
That's for little people after all.
Brexit is the original sin that normalised corruption in government.
Russia should have learnt from Brexit too. Much cheaper to buy instability in an adversary. Military invasions are costly and so, so 20th century.
No matter though, you'll begin to hear of Russian money being replaced with Chinese money soon. China will happily play the long game.

Seriously? You do realise that Russia stopped being anything like Communist, let alone even slightly ‘left-wing’ decades ago! Ever since Putin took over the country has been turning more and more into an authoritarian, autocratic, dictatorship, it’s now turning into the most extreme example of a surveillance regime, a panopticon, with every aspect of its population under surveillance, up to and including the legal requirement of every citizen having their DNA taken for the purposes of prosecution for any reason the state decides .
^^ I'm pretty sure Ernie was using sarcasm there matey?😉

Perhaps we could learn a lesson on that aspect of Russian politics, in that they push their problems out of high windows.
The face of two people who thought they could do ‘The Producers’, play both sides off against each other and conduct a massive scam, ending up quids in and laughing
Thelook on their faces says it all when they realised they were the ones that had been played, they weren’t anywhere near as clever as they thought they were and now they had to follow through on their end of the bargain….

It’s absolutely bang on that the Russians referred to their new Brexiteer comrades in Westminster as ‘useful idiots’
That’s now been cranked up to the nth degree.
The posturing photoshoots with Zelensky in London and Ukraine with Boris must have raised a wry smile from Putin
Both shameless and morality-free opportunists, Putin must marvel at the bare-faced front of Johnson for going big on supporting Ukraine after spending ten years paving the way for the Russians
What constantly amazes me with this lot is, when you look at the actual suns of money, just how cheap they are to buy
They’ll literally sell out their own country for a fifty grand bung. The Russians who were bribing them would demand millions, probably billions for the same favours
They’re cheap in every respect.
Parasites
I vividly remember that look on their faces as I watched it live, the utter “oh ****” expression as the Tory party’s folly came home to roost, compare it to the glee on Farages face.
I don't think this corruption started with brexit, although that was significant. In fact IMO the reason division that Putin's regime has been sewing failed to work when he invaded Ukraine is because the wests oligarchs and corrupt vested interests are so established into the fabric of power that they just readjusted slightly to keep the system going.
Indeed. Like naughty schoolboys who’s jolly, self-serving wheeze will now bring the whole country down
Just look at them. Hardly people who look like they’d finally realised their life’s mission

I’m sure Putin was probably having a line and buggering a rent boy in celebration
They need stringing up for what they’ve done. If it doesn’t count as treason then I can’t imagine what does
Do you remember when they worked for us.
Now it seems that we work for them.
But all that has been long predicted, and I've said many times long and loud that eventually they will go from millionaires to billionaires and still telling the population it is they who need to tighten their belts.
Being a millionaire politician seems to be the order of the day, so at least we're halfway there.
Nothing will change, until it is forced to change, but we need the law on our side, and right now the law isnt worth the paper it is printed upon.
So weep not for yourselves, but for your children.
I don’t think this corruption started with brexit
I’m gutted we didn’t have any oligarch kids in my class, missed out on all that lovely money laundering opportunity and access to loadsa money and free holidays with unlimited strippers and coke as I grew up.
The thing I wonder in all of this is the massive playing of the markets, play when we left the EU, and play again, when will inevitably have to rejoin when the country is truly broken. Russia for sure helped but don't think for one moment that the Tory's knew this would happen. Nobody makes real money in a stable economy it is only the poor that suffer in this and they don't vote Tory, so they don't care. Note the pensioners these days are still being propped up by the Tory's, for good reason.

Its very easy to leagalise corruption when you have been in government for a decade. Why dont these journalists dig deeper into the exact route the money took so they can show it is illegal? Im sure its well hidden but not impossible to follow
You can tell how far standards have fallen by looking at how long it has taken for someone to point out that the possessive its has no apostrophe. 13 hours and 25 posts! STW, what has happened to you?
But yeah, this government has undermined every institution intended to provide checks and balances to its power. It's granted itself Henry VIII powers to avoid parliamentary scrutiny and allow a wide range of things to be done at the whim of a minister. It has deliberately specified those things very loosely to allow the powers to be used in ways their opponents did not suspect. Short of a revolution, I don't think there has ever been a government that ever rolled back changes like these. "Power corrupts, absolute power is kind of neat".
Under no circumstances does the Tory Party gave absolute power. That's just silly talk
I am not so sure that the corruption is due to a change in legislation , so much as deciding that the line of the law is the operating zone, rather than the extremity of what is acceptable.
Under no circumstances does the Tory Party have absolute power. That’s just silly talk
Well of course they don't have absolute power, but I can't think of any time in peacetime where so much power has been removed from the individual and taken by the government, than in the years since Brexit.
They have literally ridden roughshod over parliamentary democracy and made a mockery of any form of executive accountability.
It does not start with this tory government. it starts well before. Remember Major and brown envelopes? Blairs lot liked a sniff on money. Cooper would do anything for a pound, Streeting is in the pay of private healthcare etc etc
all this lot of tories have done is taken whets there and run with it
The aims of the russian state ( one of them) are to destablise the UK and the EU and bribing tories as the party in power is the best and cheapest way to do this – and has proved very successful in destabilising the Uk if much less so the EU. they did lots of funding of the brexiteers
Makes you wonder who's bankrolling the SNP 😉
Irn Bru
Err what about Mandleson, new labour allowed a lot of russian oligarchs into the country in the first place with fast tracked visas. It's all the political shits in this country putting party before country.
that's "themselves before party before country", surely?
We all know that the bettertogether campaign was really bankrolled by Big-Buckfast worried about the loss of friction free trade with it's largest market.
"The thing I wonder in all of this is the massive playing of the markets, play when we left the EU, and play again,"
Likewise with the Truss / Kwarteng budget. You know that the think tank bods behind it were in fact hedging against their own advice.
pff, this is nothing compared to the amount of money laundering going on in the city of London every single day...
Somewhat related to this.....
play when we left the EU, and play again, when will inevitably have to rejoin when the country is truly broken.
Pretty sure the EU has rules in place to stop them taking on basket cases.
