You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Instead of asking for whom forum members would vote and then getting 1000 Labour/Green responses and a handful of conspiracy theorists, I thought it would be good to see who would win the election if STW voted by secret ballot.
So let's put Survey Monkey to use, and find out.
Please be honest. I'll post results as they roll in.
PredictionPanther predicts a predictable future for this thread.... 🙁
SaxonRider,
I think your sampling population might be a bit skewed ... 😆
From STW, the result will yeild 25% to 30% voting Conservative, while the rest of the result 70% will go to lefties or lefties related.
Not really reflecting on anything real but the result should be fun to look at ... 😀
Let's see if my prediction is right ...
My crystal ball is bigger than most people.
I think your sampling population might be a bit skewed
Oh, I know. I'd just like to see what would happen if we ran the world.
I think your sampling population might be a bit skewed
I kinda suspect the same, but if that does prove to be the case, it poses the question that what is it about an internet bike forum attracts said population.
That's good that survey. Fun and funny I like!SaxonRider - Member

Or your result will yield 99.9% lefties related ... 😆
The results are already surprising. 😯
The results are already surprising
SNP whitewash across England?
SaxonRider - MemberThe results are already surprising.
ooooohh ... can't wait to see your result ... 😛 (like Peter Griffin acting with excitement)
you should add a few more qus
eg
1) If you vote tomorrow, for whom do you vote?
2) If your vote is not for your first choice but is tactical, which would have been your first choice?
3) Rank top three choices (STV/PR style result)
How does tactical voting work in your poll?
I have *always* lived in a two party constituency. Often never having a realistic option of voting for the party i'd choose under another system/ in another constituency.
Do i vote with my heart, or location.
I kinda suspect the same, but if that does prove to be the case, it poses the question that what is it about an internet bike forum attracts said population.
I suppose we'd need to know the baseline for Audi-driving IT managers...
I would add another two questions 'If you were voting with your heart who would you vote for?' and ''If you were voting with your head who would you vote for?'.
Well the results so far tell us that perchypanther has voted many times over, with an SNP landslide.
Well?
Seriously, what we have so far is:
84 responses
Conservative
15.48% 13
Labour
52.38% 44
Liberal Democrat
15.48% 13
Plaid Cymru
0.00% 0
SNP
8.33% 7
Green
5.95% 5
Other Party
1.19% 1
Destroy Ballot
1.19% 1
EDIT: The responses are coming in fast, though, so expect this to change regularly.
I'm not sure I find that surprising
I'm amazed the tories have more than 2 votes.
Given how pro EU this forum is I thought the libs would walk it.
Coincidentally, the same percentages as the "what are your handlebars made from" poll... draw your own conclusions...
For my seat to change I need to vote Lib Dems as Labour doesn't hold enough voters here, so I'll vote for the party I want to win the election not the one I need to ballot for.
Coincidentally, the same percentages as the "what are your handlebars made from" poll... draw your own conclusions...
Except that I accidentally lied on that poll. I said my bars were aluminium, but actually I have no idea.
I lied on your poll, so that balances it out.
My seat is a two horse race between Tory and Labour - currently it's Tory
My vote is tactical to try and get rid of the Tory MP
Front page poll on EU Referendum was 80/20 Remain - so the adjustment factor would have to be pretty significant imho. There was a thread about who voted Conservative in 2015 and lots of posters who never contribute to political threads answered.
I'm amazed the tories have more than 2 votes.
A pattern that is repeated at every recent election...
"How on earth did the Tories win? We got loads more shares and likes than they did"
I'm amazed the tories have more than 2 votes.

Just a decision you need to make. I am left wing first and EU second.
If we weren't already in the EU not sure I would bother joining but as we are in it I don't think it is worth the effort and cost of leaving.
And 15% tory is higher than I would have guessed. I must be misreading a lot of peoples posts.
My vote is tactical to try and get rid of the Tory MP
Same here. And not because he's standing on a Conservative ticket, more because he's a nasty piece of work.
Given how pro EU this forum is I thought the libs would walk it.
FPTP… most people end up voting to stop a candidate, not for the party they most want to represent them.
I'd vote LibDem if my vote didn't mean I would then be more likely to be stuck with my current MP.
Actually, based on policies, I'd vote SNP if it was on my ballot form… whenever I fill in one of those online questionnaires that matches your opinions on policy matters to a party, it always comes up as more strongly matching SNP than any of the UK wide parties.
Oooh! ......is this the Spin Room?
own up then, who voted Tory? *sharpens pitchfork*
How can you pretend these results would have any semblance to reality when you've left out the monster raving loony party?
Please let me know when it is updated so I can cast my ballot.
own up then, who voted Tory? *sharpens pitchfork*
The entire PLP 😀
There was a thread about who voted Conservative in 2015 and lots of posters who never contribute to political threads answered.

You're going to have to chase after even more people now, jekkyl.
The results are now:

What's your point caller?
A pretty obvious one.
If you tory voters vote lib I will personally give you each £350000000.
Well that cleared that up cheers Mefty for you informative response.
"How on earth did the Tories win? We got loads more shares and likes than they did"
this, Tory voters go and vote. Nothing else matters really.
Is that a one-off bribe zippykona, or a weekly payment in perpetuity?
Weekly of course.
Well that cleared that up cheers Mefty for you informative response.
Tory voters vote, but don't like to talk about it?
Some non-Tory voters are like that, you know.
Having had time to think about it, I believe i know the answer.
Right wing voters ride horses not bikes - too much effort chasing those foxes if you have to do it under your own propulsion!
Well that cleared that up cheers Mefty for you informative response.

Wait what? 17% of STWers have handlebars made of Tories?

And a Tory voter outs himself.
Nice one, zippykona. 😉

Yep. Those are the ones that fool you into thinking you're going the way you want to go and then , suddenly steer you in a direction that you really didn't want go and you crash. .
My vote is tactical to try and get rid of the Tory MP
Same here. If it wasn't between two obvious options in this constituency I actually have no idea who I'd vote for purely based on principles.

Cost a fortune, cheaply made in China and all the profits go to an offshore tax haven?
I prefer Scotroutes answer.
I generally keep away from political threads as there's generally too many people shouting on like the annoying kid in class.
Does this mean DM readers dont ride bicycles?
VOTE HOOKERS AND BOOZE!

I was kind of hoping that the anonymous nature of the poll would mitigate this problem. If it gets out of hand here, I'll bail myself.
I'd just like to see what would happen if we ran the world.
"Daddy, what did you do in the wheel-size war of 2023?"

Guess. 😛
I have voted for Tories and will continue to vote for Tories. *Invited Mr Mossberg with his pals Mr Glock, Mr Smith and Mr Wesson* for a cup of tea. 😈
And a Tory voter outs himself.
Well, there are 5 Tory MPs tying to hold onto their seats that I would vote for.
5 LibDem MPs.
1 Green MP.
30 or so Labour ones.
10 or so SNP ones.
There are far more Tory MPs I'd vote to get rid off, than MPs from any other party.
All have bad eggs though, accept Greens (but only because they only have the one I suspect).
You could describe me as a lifetime anti-Tory voter, but that's because of the seats I've lived in and the candidates that have stood in them, I always look at the voting record and stated positions of the candidates running.
How often will the survey be refreshed ?
@kelvin: Sorry if that came across as derisory. I am actually more interested in data and what it says about how people think than I am in whom they actually vote for.
I was kind of hoping that the anonymous nature of the poll would mitigate this problem
Yeah, I was going to post that the thread should only have you giving updates on it, but if I'd done that it wouldn't have done so I didn't

At least one person act shocked so he feels satisfied.
Oooh you can vote more than once.
Chewk, why not bnp or UKIP?
why not bnp or UKIP?
Funny, I didn't even think of including those in the poll.
How come if 9 people vote SNP they get 17% of the vote but 9 people voting Green gives them 5% of the vote, whilst 31 people voting Libdems gives them 16%?
BBSB, I probably just made a typo. Sorry about that. Alas, it's too late to fix, as we are now up to 288 responses and that data has long since been buried.
I'm suspicious, though. The tories have gained more than 80 votes since I last looked. I think someone has managed to fool the 'Monkey into thinking they were only voting once.

That'll be the postal votes from Tower Hamlets.
That'll be those pesky russians trying to influence the result.

Tablet, PC, phone and different browsers plus clearing cache or using work computers. Easy to fiddle.

You only need to open it in a new incognito tab and it won't know you've already taken it.
But that would be against the spirit of things, wouldn't it?
That simple?
Yes it would.
Maybe those sudden extra 80 tory votes suggest which side is most likely to take part in voter fraud.

i have voted thank god* it is a secret so no one will know who i voted for 😉

yes it was definitely the tories linked there
Perhaps you should have made a joke about errors in the campaign spending for it to have worked?

Nice recovery 😉
So is it finished then?
Let's get 'em boys.
Naaaah - being a Tory is enough of a punishment for being a Tory, isn't it?
It's a bit like having an STD in that regard.
Except that it doesn't respond to Penicillin...
I think it is more 'democrat' 'anti-democracy' than left or right. I genuinely think the conservatives aren't interested in upholding the principal or the practice of civic representation.
