Instead of asking for whom forum members would vote and then getting 1000 Labour/Green responses and a handful of conspiracy theorists, I thought it would be good to see who would win the election if STW voted by secret ballot.

So let's put Survey Monkey to use, and find out.

Please be honest. I'll post results as they roll in.

SaxonRider,

I think your sampling population might be a bit skewed ... 😆

From STW, the result will yeild 25% to 30% voting Conservative, while the rest of the result 70% will go to lefties or lefties related.

Not really reflecting on anything real but the result should be fun to look at ... 😀

Let's see if my prediction is right ...

My crystal ball is bigger than most people.

I kinda suspect the same, but if that does prove to be the case, it poses the question that what is it about an internet bike forum attracts said population.

you should add a few more qus

eg

1) If you vote tomorrow, for whom do you vote?
2) If your vote is not for your first choice but is tactical, which would have been your first choice?
3) Rank top three choices (STV/PR style result)

How does tactical voting work in your poll?

I have *always* lived in a two party constituency. Often never having a realistic option of voting for the party i'd choose under another system/ in another constituency.

Do i vote with my heart, or location.

I suppose we'd need to know the baseline for Audi-driving IT managers...

I would add another two questions 'If you were voting with your heart who would you vote for?' and ''If you were voting with your head who would you vote for?'.

Seriously, what we have so far is:

84 responses

Conservative
15.48% 13

Labour
52.38% 44

Liberal Democrat
15.48% 13

Plaid Cymru
0.00% 0

SNP
8.33% 7

Green
5.95% 5

Other Party
1.19% 1

Destroy Ballot
1.19% 1

EDIT: The responses are coming in fast, though, so expect this to change regularly.

I'm amazed the tories have more than 2 votes.
Given how pro EU this forum is I thought the libs would walk it.

For my seat to change I need to vote Lib Dems as Labour doesn't hold enough voters here, so I'll vote for the party I want to win the election not the one I need to ballot for.

My seat is a two horse race between Tory and Labour - currently it's Tory

My vote is tactical to try and get rid of the Tory MP

Front page poll on EU Referendum was 80/20 Remain - so the adjustment factor would have to be pretty significant imho. There was a thread about who voted Conservative in 2015 and lots of posters who never contribute to political threads answered.

A pattern that is repeated at every recent election...

Just a decision you need to make. I am left wing first and EU second.
If we weren't already in the EU not sure I would bother joining but as we are in it I don't think it is worth the effort and cost of leaving.

And 15% tory is higher than I would have guessed. I must be misreading a lot of peoples posts.

Same here. And not because he's standing on a Conservative ticket, more because he's a nasty piece of work.

Given how pro EU this forum is I thought the libs would walk it.

FPTP… most people end up voting to stop a candidate, not for the party they most want to represent them.

I'd vote LibDem if my vote didn't mean I would then be more likely to be stuck with my current MP.

Actually, based on policies, I'd vote SNP if it was on my ballot form… whenever I fill in one of those online questionnaires that matches your opinions on policy matters to a party, it always comes up as more strongly matching SNP than any of the UK wide parties.

And a Tory voter outs himself.

Well, there are 5 Tory MPs tying to hold onto their seats that I would vote for.
5 LibDem MPs.
1 Green MP.
30 or so Labour ones.
10 or so SNP ones.

There are far more Tory MPs I'd vote to get rid off, than MPs from any other party.
All have bad eggs though, accept Greens (but only because they only have the one I suspect).

You could describe me as a lifetime anti-Tory voter, but that's because of the seats I've lived in and the candidates that have stood in them, I always look at the voting record and stated positions of the candidates running.

BBSB, I probably just made a typo. Sorry about that. Alas, it's too late to fix, as we are now up to 288 responses and that data has long since been buried.

I'm suspicious, though. The tories have gained more than 80 votes since I last looked. I think someone has managed to fool the 'Monkey into thinking they were only voting once.

You only need to open it in a new incognito tab and it won't know you've already taken it.

I think it is more 'democrat' 'anti-democracy' than left or right. I genuinely think the conservatives aren't interested in upholding the principal or the practice of civic representation.
