Best threads of the year so far? 😉 Following on from the end times thread,  I thought a more positive thread highlighting recent threads that have cheered you up, helped you in some way or just been interesting would be good.

So no "classics" (picolax et al) unless they are still active. Threads which are or have been active since the start of the year.

Mine are:

  • "Today's photo". Some seriously talented people on here.
  • "The midweek ride picture thread" For inspiration to get out.
  • "Jizz horse". Puntastic.
  • "Fissures (bum injury content)".  Grim toilet humour of the "I shouldn't laugh, but" variety.
  • "Sorry, I need a coffee grinder". I love a coffee thread and the way it draws out the "what's wrong with instant" Philistines!
  • "Stuff that makes you disproportionately cross". Long running but funny safety valve for life's minor irritations.
  •

What you got?  Doesn't have to be 6, just 1 will do!

The UK government thread

The Starmer thread

The Farage thread

The Trump thread

Elon Musk

Brexit 2020 on

Not just for balance 😉  they cover aspects of society and its evolution that go well beyond the titles. I like the discussion/debate and all those things that were cited that put people off. I must do, I wouldn't still be posting in them if I didn't. I absolutely understand why people don't get involved in them, I've come to see the dirty tactics of some as comic but the day I don't I'll be out - till then I'll just type what I think.

Some threads I've never posted on and won't, Gaza and Ukraine for example, subjects I can't take lightly.

Gigs: opened my eyes to some great music that might otherwise have escaped my attention. Waxahatchee immediately comes to mind. Tigers Blood is a very good album.

But good to see a really eclectic mix. I think old blokes are keeping grass roots music alive. Even when I go to see young emerging bands I am rarely an outlier in the demographic. Sad that more young people aren’t going, but small gigs don’t seem to catch that ‘Insta’ vibe - and better old people than none!

Fair enough @Edukator, we all like different stuff which is cool. I do read those threads because I am interested in politics and current affairs and have (very) occasionally posted, but they can feel a bit too hostile, judgemental and even intimidating if you're not one of the regulars ime. Yes, I'm a delicate flower! I get why some enjoy the rough and tumble though 👍

@vd great post! 👌 I would agree on the various music, books, streaming, cinema posts. I have definitely expanded my cultural horizons off the back of a few of those threads.

I know that when you release a thread into the wild, you have no control over how it develops. I really hoped this one could stay positive though? Without acrimony. Can we try? Thank you muchly 🙂

Here's my six.

  • Today's photo - always some banger shots in there.
  • Can we have a dog thread? - love me a bit of hound action.
  • What is the last thing you made? (pics pls) - further evidence of talented people that reside here.
  • Christmas Airfix! - stopped modelling in my youth, but love to see the work of others.
  • Stuff that makes you disproportionately cross - Grumpy hilarity.
  • The midweek ride picture thread - not always possible for me so I live vicariously through the photos of others.

Honourable mentions go out to the 'Lego' and 'what have you fixed' threads.

Not sure I can manage six, but a mention for the Electric Car Thread. As a new EV owner I've got masses of useful information from there.

I always see what's new on the Netflix thread, even though the recommendations leave me thinking "what is WRONG with people?"

I used to live on alt.peeves in USENET days, and the "disproportionately cross" thread has some of the same vibe.

Politics threads are fun when there's some genuine debate, but what is there more to say about Trump?

Err ... that's it.

Excluding mine?  🙂

I think its really been the music threads.  I'm not really hearing new to me music much these days so thae various music threads on here have really been good

I'd add "Argh, my eye" to the list.  That consistently makes me chuckle.

No TJ, I have loved your OZ and NZ threads, and the European one before 👍 Stop being needy though eh? 😄😉

RM a lot of crossover there 👍 I do read the dog thread. Still dogless for the last few years but an impending wedding at home, then house move have delayed rectifying that 'till next year. The thread is a great tonic. I'm still long dog curious!

@DrJ agree about some Netflix recommendations leaving me cold, though plenty that didn't. I watched Reacher off the back of a thread on here and thought it was the biggest pile of shite ever recorded. I got a right slagging for saying so! 🤣

Always look at the Netflix thread, loads of stuff I'd never watch otherwise, always play music that's suggested - I really ought to say so more on those threads, disproportionately always makes me chuckle, Christmas Airfix for the sheer nerdiness of people posting their alternate hobby on a forum dedicated to a hobby. (not me; obviously)

Ah yes, Timba, you slagged off France and Macron (along with Elshalimo) so I made an exception to demonstrate you were mistaken in your views. Very much in-persona countering anit-French bollocks and explaining French politics rather than contributing to the topic I think you'll agree. Nothing on the Gaza thread from rising to the challenge?

Some folk seem to consistently misunderstand what threads are about and find an excuse to drag up old scores.

Which is ironic sad.

I can't remember posts from half an hour ago, let alone who wrote them.

Tractor Trumps is another great thread.

As well as a lot of the above I like the travelogue threads. TJs adventures and the recent Marcher Castles thread were great. Been lots of others but those are the recent ones I can remember.
