The Peoples Palace in Romania. An enormous, hideous, pointless expression of one mans ego

[img] [/img]

Ironically completely surrounded by the most nondescript, concrete, communist era, brutalist hideousness

As a 38 year old Brit who never lived under communism and was still a child when the wall came down - even I find that a big "**** you" to the 'ordinary person'.

You can only imagine what the downtrodden, oppressed and materially poor Romanian citizens thought every time they clapped eyes on that monstrosity.

No wonder they offed him and his missus at the first chance.

Why is it that I can't look at the 'Trump Tower' without a vision of a similar tower with 'PILLOCK' written on it coming into my mind....?

Why just have a building when you can have a whole island? Necker in this instance for Mr Branson

[img] [/img]

or Ile Gagnon, Quebec for Canadian warbler, Celine Dion

Hell, just look at just about any modern picture of the skyline in London or New York and see the various monuments to corporate megalomania

Most Zaha Hadid projects look like something from Bond, but this one actually got built! (and isn't an expo building).

[img] [/img]

[img] [/img]

Unfortunately, it's not a remote island-headquarters though - a shopping complex!

Private home in Australia

That's spectacular. Imagine spending the night there, out in the rainforest?

That one in Oz looks a bit like a cutaway Millenium Falcon has crashed and been abandoned, which someone has reclaimed and 'repurposed' it for family off-grid living. Can see Kev McCloud busting a nut over that...

Lovely location, hideous building, inside and out. It kinda reminds me of Troy McClure's house in the Simpsons.

Blimey - they're so megalomaniacal that their building dims the lights of all others around it!
