Also is this a whole new show? Some bits are giving me real deja vu.
Mandela Effect aside, I'm reasonably confident that some of the scenes were reconstructions of actual documentary footage. A couple of sections with Dan in particular rang bells.
Scarborough...is that Llandudno?
Scarborough…is that Llandudno?
Lol - I thought that myself a few times. It turns out that some of the filming was done in Rhos-on-sea and Llndudno.
It also said that some scenes and characters were created for dramatisation.
Last episode watched - the mortuary, is there any evidence that happened too? Other than a propensity to hang around there which is weird enough anyway. IDK why that seems even worse than the other shit he undoubtedly did - in fact rationally how can it be worse than a living person let alone a child - but that made me feel sick.
The people at the end are heartbreaking. 50 or 60 years on and still broken by it. Such a shame he never faced justice, I hope there's some peace in it now being known.
And to the 'happier' (is it?) - what a top performance by Coogan. It must be quite hard to agree to play a monster like this, even if you aren't full on method to inhabit the skin and personality even if it's just for takes, to look in the mirror and see that looking back. I think the BAFTAs can make their decisions now.

Irvine Welsh wrote about a necrophiliac TV personality in 1996, who roamed about a hospital and raised millions for charity.
There were rumours for years.

Bloody hell. Just when I thought it couldn't get any worse. Jeez....
“ Not within accepted boundaries “ No f@@@ing shit Sherlock !!!!
We got talking to the in-laws about it last night over Sunday Dinner. They are two episodes in and didn't know the extent of the things he got up to.
It was very disconcerting when my M-I-L said that she was working at LGI when he was there in the late 60s. She said that she often saw him hanging around in the basement (apparently the canteen was down there too). She had no idea until we told her why he spent so much time down there. She also said the same as has been said by many others, that he was considered weird and creepy back then and people tried to avoid him.
My mum was also at LGI in the late 60s, these were her thoughts/memories - it started with me wondering whether she might remember the head porter as he seemed reasonably significant;
I don't remember the head porter shown on the Jimmy Savile programme. He was probably tucked away in an office somewhere.
My memories of JS at the LGI were... He "worked" as a porter in the Xray department. He was always accompanied by another porter - it must have been the rules for anyone who wasn't part of the staff. Patients were thrilled if they were one of the lucky ones to be pushed by him!?
If we saw him coming we would take a detour to avoid him and definitely not get in a lift with him. This was mainly because he talked such gobbledegook and was embarrassing.
He was friendly with the mortuary technician.
He once came into theatre to watch an open heart operation. He must have become friends with the surgeon. He appeared most interested and asked lots of serious questions. He later wrote a load of tosh in the Yorkshire Evening Post, joking and trivialising it.
While I was there, lots of research was going on...surgical and medical. People's heart rates were monitored in different situations...travelling by air, travelling by train, driving etc. Jimmy Savile took part during a recording of Top of the Pops. Another technician went to TOTP. (The research may have had something to do with Beta Blockers).
I've probably told you all this before. Never suspected anything, just thought he was a creep.
^^ I wonder if they knew each other. My M-I-L spent most of her time on the psychiatric ward with a spell on children's I believe (as a quite junior nurse).
Assuming that the drama is in any way accurate, it’s fairly clear how he operated. He was charismatic, he was powerful, he was popular, he was well-loved, he was coercive, he was deeply manipulative. And as is often the case, who’s going to believe the word of a 15-year old over someone like Russ- uh, Jimmy Savile?
There was no paedophile ring here, because he didn’t need one.
You don't know that. And to say he didn't need one isn't true either and is devoid of logic. He needed friends in high places. He had Police pals who got him off the hook many times.
People don't want to think he was part of one because its uncomfortable for them. Its much easier to believe he was acting purely alone however this series confirmed he wasn't, and we knew this anyway (the ice cream man and his flat mate are two for starters). Then when interviewed by police he literally says his police mates laugh about allegations and make them go away. Everything points to it. Of course they spin it to make you think differently as like I say it lets many organisations and individuals off the hook which is highly convenient.
Also thinking that we now know everything and everyone involved is naïve in the extreme, it's borderline head in the sand stuff. And extraordinary given how this was covered up for decades.
It's all pretty much the same as the book, which is excellent.
The book details much more about the inconsistencies in his own history of being a Bevin Boy and testimony from people who raced with him in the 1951 Tour of Britain.
The bits that I don't remember from the book are details regarding his earlier involvement at LGI and the circumstances around the attacks in the Chapel vestry and the funfair.
The rest seems to follow the book very closely, the words of Savile himself and those interviewed by Dan Davies.
Of course they spin it to make you think differently as like I say it lets many organisations and individuals off the hook which is highly convenient.
They really didn’t there was a scene with his ex-chauffeur begging him to use his police contacts.
You don’t know that.
Nor do you.
We can all sit here making shit up. It's not in doubt that many people "turned a blind eye" to his antics. This does not a paedophile ring conspiracy make.
If we believe the testimony of Savile's nephew, then there certainly was something of the kind happening in London.
I THINK he was in the programme, he was certainly in the book.
It was written.
Although I remember it all coming out soon after his death I had forgotten it was within a month that it was going to be reported on Newsnight. Clearly more than coincidence that it all came out so soon after his death and must have been held back/covered up waiting for that time surely. If there was any of that then that is one of the worst parts of this as catching hime when alive would have been so much better for a lot of people impacted by him.
Clearly more than coincidence that it all came out so soon after his death and must have been held back/covered up waiting for that time surely.
Or his victims finally felt they could talk.
It was written.
He did voices for spitting image.
Yeah, I know, and clearly he was accomplished. 😊

I just tripped over this. Interview aside, watch his hand.

Didn't see anything. What were we supposed to see ?.
1970's 😕 Yeah women really had choices in those days. Might want to have cause on whomever designed their clothing. But at that time the laws attitude to woman was at best barbaric.
After seeing that video ^^^ I had a flashback - did he once put both hands up so the eyes on the rings were over his eyes? Or was that someone else? Or have I just imagined it?
As he covers his eyes in the first few seconds, one of the rings on his left hand looks like (is clearly?) an eye 🤢
Jeez! I do believe you're right.
