That was so funny.... as they lined up I said to Mrs MD... I bet some other b*gger wins it.
In the 1500? Not who anyone thought. Great race.

Ladies Kierin on now...
Nah. Olympic pools are 2,500,000 L, assume 12 degree increase from baseline, and the specific heat of water as 4,200 J/kg/degree, requires 1.3E11 Joules, and there are 3.6E6 Joules per kWh, so 35,000 KWh at 25p for electric and 6p for gas would be about £8750 and £2100. Still have to KEEP it warm though! And you might want it warmer.
I worked years ago for electricity board, the police would often contact us looking for patterns of electricity usage, as you could tell that the property either had a swimming pool or was a cannabis farm.
Team GB Women's TP heat now - up against USA for a place on the Gold Medal final.
Shout out to the (fellow) oldies in the skateboarding!
GB Women's team pursuit squad beaten by USA so they're in the ride-off for Bronze later this evening against Italy. The USA squad included Kristen Faulkner, the Gold medallist from the Women's road race last weekend.
How can they claim a world record at speed climbing, is every course identical?

Indeed. Andy (Old) MacDonald coming 18th out of 22, at the age of 51 - Chapeau.
The men's dingy sailing (sorry not sure of the correct boat type) was really exciting. Team GB was 8th and came nearer and nearer to the end as a silver placing, when the race got postponed. Timing not good, but what can one do without the wind.
Cycling back on.
Weightlifting. Aside from the doping, it's gladiatorial and always a spectacle worth watching. On now...
You set a weight you want to lift as a mark in each of the three disciplines, then try and lift this. You have three lifts per discipline. But you also can try and intimidate your opponents with a big initial lift, or just creep up slowly. Total for three disciplines is summed and the highest total is the winner.

Yes.
Sorry two disciplines. Clean and Jerk, sub 61 kilos now. And the list of shame. Spoiler, they're not failing for recreational drugs 😉
Blimey, that was some race.
What actually happened to the guy on the front of the GB TP squad? I'm in Italy, so watching in Italian (which I don't speak?)
In the 1500? Not who anyone thought. Great race.
I thought him and/or Nguse could cause an upset and get on the podium, watched them both on the US indoors and outdoor circuit. He was particularly impressive some time ago doing a 1500 and 3000m double (from memory) and both times were impressive.
As an aside, isn’t it great how far Hope have come in thirty years?
Women's TP up now for Bronze.
Hamish Turnbull winning his sprint heat by a single thousandth of a second!
Chris Hoy famously had that once as well.
The men's discus is shaping up to be a cracking competition.
Shout out to the (fellow) oldies in the skateboarding!
I thought Andy Mcdonald put in a good run. He's not typically a park skater and the new generations are a step above, even the older of them like Pedro Barros (who very much is a park skater!). To put a good score on the board at the age of 51 amongst those guys is impressive.
We've had a Chariots of Fire montage, we know what happens next. I reckon bronze, maybe silver
It appears to be the year of silvers

Bloody hell.
Big up to Zambia for their first medal though 🙂
The Steeplechase is always a bit mad but that one was extra mad. Massive respect to the USA athlete who came in 2nd, that was a really bold move!
I hope the lad who fell is OK, it looked a bad fall.
Talking steeplechase, this is my mates brother.
He was so gutted.....
https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/athletics/articles/crgmj2lylv1o
worth noting he’s achieved all this without being a full time athlete and works a “normal” job too!
Yeah, Adam Blythe explained it well on Eurosport – they pull so hard on the bars they can come too far forward and off the saddle.
That’s not what happened, he basically ‘bonked’, lost all the strength in his legs and slid forwards off his saddle. Watch him in slomo and he’s all over the place, he said afterwards that he could barely stay upright. BBC News keeps saying his saddle broke, but there’s no evidence of that, he actually said “my whole body went weak, I could barely hold myself upright”, I’m quoting him because he’s just been on the telly saying exactly that.
I’ve been watching all of the archery matches from the beginning, which Discovery+ allows me to do. Fortunately I get it for free, so I can keep it for future use. South Korea’s women’s team just managed to beat China’s team in a very close shootout; it got very tense!
Does anyone know when the 'one man' sailing dingy race will be re-run? It was postponed yesterday due to light winds. GB were in the silver medal position near the end.

Yesterday
Whilst we all hope that what we're seeing are clean, undoped performances, this makes you wonder what really is the case.
Yesterday
And I think we missed the medals in the rerun?

As a spectator, enjoy the spectacle, the details will just depress you.

Oh I do.... but I don't naively presume all is clean and all performances are just the result of genetics, hard work etc. I use the word "all" as I also don't think they are all at it. USADA is a pretty major player.
Men's track omnium just starting on EuroSport now. Ethan Hayter up for Team GB - hopefully recovered after his efforts in the Pursuit yesterday!
Nasty crash on the track there - rear disc wheel completely collapsed/shattered!
Masterclass from Ethan in the Devil. The hardest Omnium race to gauge. Nice to see all four events in one go. Looks like a standard track meet! All to play for in the points race now.
Women's Keirin final - Katy Marchant and Emma Finucane both in this so potential for 2 medals!
Wow felt Letsile Tebogo had a little more there.
Men's Omnium was a corker!
Not the race I was hoping for but can't knock a WR in the 400m H!
Loving the javelin too 🙂
Covid seems to be affecting a lot of athletes.
Big morning for KJT in the heptathlon. I hope she got a good night's sleep. Got a PB in her bête noir, the shot put, and 'won' yesterday's high jump (equal best). Fingers crossed
^ Yeah, Denise Lewis seemed pretty confident on the BBC last night given the way she has performed so far.
Maybe a few more points in the 200m than she got? Gonna be a brilliant last day and would be so thrilling to see her join Jess and Denise as Olympic champion.
Not sure these climbers are actually human?!? Hamish M with an astonishing one handed rotating move on the lead route.
Feels like they're getting a decent balance with the climbing of making it viewer friendly and still representative of the competitive strand of climbing.
Possibly splitting all 3 disciplines in 2028 I believe?
Gold for Toby Roberts in the men's climbing combined - amazing!
seems that the heptathlon may have gone for KJT. Thiam has just been too consistent and outscoring her comprehensively on the throwing events. KJT's long jump and 200m were strong but needed to be nearer her PBs. Still, there's a chance
Yup. Sadly looks like silver. KJT's 800m PB is 6 seconds quicker than Thiam's but she needs over 8 seconds for gold?
It'll still be great to see KJT get a medal. She's not got one yet, even though she's actually one of the all time heptathlon high scorers. Thiam is incredible!
She's a better heptathlete than Ennis and Lewis but just competing at the same time as Thiam. Aside from Colin Jackson who's way out there, probably best GB athlete to never get olympic gold?
Silver for Team GB (Elinor Barker and Neah Evans) in a chaotic but very entertaining Women's Madison.
Could easily have won the women's 4x100m with a better final changeover. Excellent silver though.
Bad changeovers for the men too but great final leg to get bronze.
Made Thiam run a PB by more than a second. You can't be disappointed with silver if someone else is just that bit better and still has to produce that level to hold you off.
Got a bit dusty in here watching Megan Keith finish.
Breaking.......it's not for me
Ooh a weird cover of Horse With No Name by America!
Mrs Slow said "that's A Horse with no Name". I said "nah". Then "Oh yeah". Awful wasn't it? Anyway I thought the horses danced better.
I see I wasn't the only one spotting an awful cover of Horse With No Name! 😆
Glad the real sports have now begun. Superb breakdancing tonight. If in the next Olympics they include robot dancing I may have a chance.
Women's bouldering on now. Two boulders in, Erin McNiece is doing really well.
Taekwondo on before women's lead climbing. I'm having a flashback to one of the all time great threads...glupton and his band of millionaire CEO mates in Scotland who were lethal at taekwondo and would routinely beat all comers from UFC
Oh Dutch hockey player being a complete knobber. Only one thing worse than a bad loser.....
Oh there's a surprise everything is ok because "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have done it"
Oh my! just having a browse through the iPlayer on demand stuff and the Women's B Girl was amazing. Not sure why it had this effect on me but i was struggling not to cry. 10 minute segment on iPlayer and I want to see more! Climbing also jaw dropping.
Diving could be a really high standard.
I couldn't find out why Ethan Hayter was injured and replaced by Mark Stewart. Did EH not recover from the incident in the TS?
Dutch guy headbutts Ollie Wood off his bike in the Madison... nothing seems to have been done about. It looked totally deliberate...
Ooh that 800 was fast...
Hell of a run by Georgia Bell!
Not sure why likes once again not working. But yes Georgia Bell! Apparently has same coach as Keeley Hodgkinson. And it def looked like a deliberate headbutt from the Dutchman - I'm sure the Paris constabulary have a video evidence submission site
The bit where the relay teams come out of the tunnel and have to do a little wacky dance or pose is so shit. Just like the icebreaker on the office training course. Just no, get on track, run fast.
And the Aussie B-girl
"Hey Cortana; can you show me Trump's latest speech......but can you do it in the form of interpretative dance?"
(stolen from elsewhere)
Jamaican girl didn't injure, she just hit the Irish girl with her hand and dropped the baton
