Just thinking about some of the recent sports coverage I've seen, and the fact that humanity can be aesthetically very beautiful - men and women alike.
This isn't a proposal, but rather a "philosophical" question:
Is there any way that people are able to appreciate and discuss aesthetic beauty in a public setting (like this one), without succumbing to uncomfortable and innappropriate sexism, innuendo, and negative judgementalism?
Yes, but not on STW!
Yes, but not on STW!
Sad ain't it....
That was the original aim of the thread, SR. Appreciation of athleticism and good photos, without descending to lechery.
Can you please post some images and describe how you feel about the images?
without descending to lechery.
As a few threads show just mention a woman in some cases and then it's just a countdown to the first one.

🤔

Eve?
So let me turn it into a question then. Could WE here on STW manage to appreciate and discuss aesthetic beauty in sport without succumbing to uncomfortable and inappropriate sexism, innuendo, and negative judgmentalism?
In other words, could Friday A&A (or threads like it) be resurrected and stay nice? Or would they automatically become problematic?
What do you think, @Mark and/or Mods?
Why don't you just try it n see?
Why don’t you just try it n see?
I may. I would just hate to be the cause of someone getting creepy.
There's enough creepy available on the internet - perhaps not risking inviting it to be shown on STW would be the best approach?
(there's also probably no end of sites stuffed full of A&A pics that are a short google away)
There was also the issue of people trolling by posting sportspeople who were most certainly one A, but not the other, who then got all offended when this was pointed out...
I will never tire of this video that fits the criteria. Sadly I am approaching 67. Please try to find any way that that is not creepy.

Depends if people can refrain from comments such as "Let's start with some posh totty".
this video that fits the criteria
Except that it's a video 😉

Sorry Granddad. Us kids are down with the work that the upstart Edward Muybridge is doing. Moving pictures!!!!!

This is the bit that confuses me. If you want to lech there are so many better places to do it, you'd think we'd be able to have the appreciation bit without it getting base by page 2.
There's a weekly sports photo thread on the BBC website that sort of fulfils the goal of Friday A&A.

A&A morphed in to P&P

Happy to revive the concept if there's demand!
@flashy - we want a revival with varying themes !!
I'll start you off ...... the FP&PT pipe and slippers edition - genteel sports/sportsperson only
SaxonRider - it would start well but then degenerate.
it would start well but then degenerate.
The tagline to my autobiography.
Until Friday, then!

It would become problematic, because society has not yet progressed past the point where men think it's ok to be lecherous. And you are not in a pub with like-minded friends here, you are on the public internet, your audience is much larger than it feels like it is.
Just bring back Kylie Friday and let all the problem makers stay in one simple location.
Just bring back Kylie Friday
pictures of kylie now though are a sad reminder of how old we all are. the fact that the 23 year old I work with has no clue who she is just mitigates the effect

I dont really get how you can look at a picture of a fit lady say that pole vaulter and either be lecherous or not be lecherous?
Its not so much how you feel about the subject as much as how you express your appreciation of the human form.
Its not so much how you feel about the subject as much as how you express your appreciation of the human form.
So which is wrong
"She's like well fit ennit"
Or "she is beautiful"
Or "she has great legs"
Or "I love pole vaulters"
Or “I love pole vaulters”
Obviously, this is the love that dare not speak its name.

It's ok to be interested or to admire them; as a straight male it would be a bit disingenuous to pretend otherwise. However it's all about how or if you express it.

Such as?
I am & think it’s ok ,especially if there’s an alternative thread for balance & us chunky folk.
A “none”A&A thread. 🙂
Did anyone see the Sam Smith/“famous”you tuber stuff recently?...re body shaming...pictures of binners& myself in lycra, that kind of thing.
😉
Apologies in advance to binners ,I am sure he is well buff.
the FP&PT pipe and slippers edition – genteel sports/sportsperson only
The 'so close' edition.
The 'impossible' edition.
The 'adventurous' edition.
The 'hold my beer, watch this' edition.
SaxonRider
...and the fact that humanity can be aesthetically very beautiful...
The moment I read that, I thought Alison Stokke. A photograph that catches the perfect moment.
But then there's the downside to that and what the poor lass had to go through as a result.
Such as?
Calling them Totty.
The "it'll buff out" edition
The "Sorry, not sorry" edition (I think Senna & Sergio Ramos will be there)
The "plucky underdog" edition
"British Cycling got in touch specifically to ask us to run this press release, because it thinks you, Singletrack readers, can help it improve the breadth of representation on their MTB commissions."...
... "This follows the launch of the organisation’s new #OneInAMillion campaign earlier this year which aims to get one million more women on bikes by 2020 and increase representation of women in cycling at all levels; whether it’s commuting, competing, coaching or on a commission."
So we're looking for fit, good looking guys showing off enough muscle to get us all wanting to go for a ride? Cool
