On Danny Baker one of the questions put to the 2 contestants was...
"how is Greg Rutherford's cutlery drawer arranged?"
I thought that's a stupid question as the first person to answer will get it right.
Obviously it's spoons on the left ,forks in the middle and knives on the right.
All my life it's been that way, when I met mrs zip she did it that way,her parents do it that way, all my family do it that way. I couldn't even comprehend that people would do it differently.
Surprisingly both contestants were wrong , as Greg did indeed arrange his drawer in the Zip approved fashion and they obviously didn't.
How's yours?
That can't be correct. Surely everyone knows it's Knives left, Forks centre, Spoons right.
Knives forks spoons. Arranged how it's said!
Forks, spoons, knives.
I have no recollection of why, or what my or Mrs Dubs folks do.
Obviously it’s spoons on the left ,forks in the middle and knives on the right.
Ours (left to right)...
Serving Spoons (and random big stuff) > Dessert/Soup Spoons > Forks > Knives
Tea spoons in tray to front (we have a lot of teaspoons).
And while were at it - has anyone ever bought a wooden spoon? They just seem to appear.
L --> R
carvy, psycho knives / small choppy knives / servy spoons / eaty spoons / forks / knives
(teaspoons smaller, offset to the front)
And while were at it – has anyone ever bought a wooden spoon? They just seem to appear.
It's soup spoons with us. Used to have 12 of them from 2 different canteens, now we're down to 4, all from the same set, but no idea how..
I honestly can't remember. They might occasionally get swapped round if we run out of more than one cutleron at the same time.
Knives, forks, spoons, left to right cos thats how the cutlery tray is set up to do it, with little spoons at the front.
The steak knives hide at the back of the drawer out of immediate reach of children's hands.
I'm with Zip on this one, though it does seem a little illogical Jim. It should be fork, knife, spoon as they would appear when laid on the table surely (ignoring the desert course obviously).
Our knives and forks are together but the starter and main sets are seperate. Easier to select a knife and fork from the same compartment than 2 slight different size ones of the same type
I have no organiser so its big stuff - leftish and everything else right-ish.
Knives, Forks then spoons.
I keep them near my platinum carbonated water tap.
I have no organiser so its big stuff – leftish and everything else right-ish.
This just makes me feel queasy. You're a monster.
Mine dictates knives on the left as the slot is longer, then I go forks in the middle and spoons on the right as seems logical...
Mine is erm.. Spoons knives forks. No reason or thought behind it. This thread is going to bug me everytime I open the drawer though (I'd do a frowny face, but don't know how)
In the kitchen - Knife, fork , spoon
The sideboards in each of the dining rooms* are configured differently due to the various presence of fish knives, pastry forks , melon spoons and other assorted specialist cutlery items.
* This might sound like exaggerration for comic effect. It is not.
L-R
Forks Knives Spoons.
Teaspoons and cake forks live together in the bottom slot.
Forks, Spoons, Knives. Teaspoons & oddments at the front, Serving spoons fart left, kitchen knives far right.
Obvious, innit?
Big spoons (serving, someone else's wooden spoons etc) then Spoons, forks, knives.
Teaspoons in front next random stuff.
How many keys are in there that you...
a) have no use for any more
or
b) have no idea what they are for
From the left:
Forks, knives, spoons.* Any other order is both pointless and wrong.
Kitchen knives go in a knife block, not in the drawer.
*Serving spoons and other odd size cutlery go in the elongated slot on the far left and teaspoons naturally go in the smaller teaspoon slot at the front**.
**Unless you are a simpleton and have put your cutlery tray in the drawer the wrong way round in which case serving spoons and other odd size cutlery go in the elongated slot on the far right and teaspoons naturally go in the smaller teaspoon slot at the back.
Unless you are a simpleton and have put your cutlery tray in the draw
Drawer.
You replied as I was updating. Damn autocorrect.
Then I apologise for implying you were a simpleton. 😉
Weird big stuff in the two slots to the left, then knives>forks>spoons as any normal person would do. Teaspoons at the back as that's where the slot is.
Tsk.
Knifes at the front, forks in the middle, spoons at the back. Tea spoons on the RHS.
As if it's even a question, FFS.
Then I apologise for implying you were a simpleton.
Don't apologise. You have no proof I am not. 😉
Knifes at the front, forks in the middle, spoons at the back. Tea spoons on the RHS.
WTF
Those with teaspoons at the back - do you never make a brew!!!
Teaspoons at front - always - for quick access.
I suggest you turn your trays around!
🙂
spoons forks knives
I'm with zippy.
We do have different sized spoons in the spoon bit tho, and same with forks and knives
we're another with both full size knives and forks and smaller starter sized ones which the kids use. So we have opted for a L-R arrangement of:
Large knives and forks
Small knives and forks (easier to lay the table by taking 2 each from each section than try to get 2 knives of each size from one compartment)
Dessert spoons
Soup spoons (which double as cereal spoons. IDKW, but my Dad always uses a soup spoon for breakfast cereal and he's never wrong, so I do too)
This 4 compartment arrangement leaves no space for teaspoons - so they are in with the soup spoons, but crucially are stored the other way up for immediate identification.
I was expecting pics of suspension bits and Charge saddles in a drawer. 😉
I'll have to check with the scullery maid but she's in the basement polishing the leatherwork and buckles.
Because I come from a broken home when I grew up it was a random pile of knifes, forks, screwdrivers and fluff.
Mrs Jay on the other hand grew up with it all in a very specific order and being the creature of habit she is HAS to to have them in that 'correct' order. It's one of my little games to change it around from time to time to freak her out a bit. I also change the order of the Coffee, Tea, Sugar jar things on the counter.
Laugh a minute in my house ha ha.
It's k-f-s
You don't eat with a fork and knife, do you? No, you eat with a knife and fork. That therefore is the natural order.

knife -fork-spoon , anything else just doesn't make sense.
As an aside, if you're getting your kitchen redone, don't be tempted by a "hidden" cutlery drawer. God, what a bloody stupid idea that was.
Teaspoons at the front, there isn't a slot at the back.
I'm another of the it goes in the drawers how you say it.
Knife, Fork, Spoon.
L-r keys big spoons n stuff spoons forks knives giving easy access to correctly stored items KFS t spoons in front and cos we are dead posh got an extra space in front of tea spoon space for pens etc!! some of the posters must have tray in back to front or something.
Must remember to ask the butler
My drawer is landscape rather than portrait.
F-B
K/F/S with tea spoons in a "portrait" slot down the right.
Also, Rutherford opted for "no sauce at all". Weird.
Obviously it’s spoons on the left ,forks in the middle and knives on the right.
I'm with the OP on this. Big slot far left for $stuff - potato peeler, can opener and the like. Little one at the front for teaspoons. I'm not pretentious posh enough to have special cutlery for different functions (or maybe I've just fallen on hard tines...)
Yes Spoons, Forks, Knives L-R here too.
Teaspoons left of big spoons, misc cutlery items right of knives.
One of the best Sausage sandwich game Qs for a while.
(or maybe I’ve just fallen on hard tines…)
Ouch. 🙂
Even I would have shied away from that one.

I don't think this post got the attention it so richly deserved.

Don't worry about it. I quite often cast my seed on stony ground.
That's why I'm banned from most trail centres.
