The London Matathon

Is this some sort of wrestling event?

No, it’s to do with the thing you put on top to protect the mat – it’s called a ‘runner’.

Ah yes, those things. Bit of a boring subject for half a day on telly I'd have thought - maybe old people love it?

Yeah sub 5 for 26 miles. Ferkin Nora.

Is Ferkin Nora running this year?

As an aside, did anyone catch the interview with Rob Young?

The guy is a freakin' machine/legend.

Without pause, Rob flies home for just one day to run in the 2015 London Marathon – the event that first inspired him. He promptly returns to continue running in Race Across the USA (which he currently leads by 26 hours) until this World’s longest marathon race series finishes on June 3rd. Then, at last Rob will be reunited with his family and have chance to reflect on an incredible 14 months. Before then planning more amazing endurance challenges…

All the more amazing given the shitty start in life he had:

Well you are correct , at that speed it would be sub 5 for 26 miles , but it would be sub 5 by 3 hours .

Well it just shows our relative ambition doesn't it?

I mean sub 5 min miles by 26 miles, you're falling over yourself to be a smart arse and presumably mean sub 5 hours....

You're obviously not a runner. 5 hours is so embarrassing as to be unmentionable though again if you're being smart, a world record time qualifies as sub 5 hour...

Ramsey Neil - you a clearly don't speak the language ' runner'

sub 5 for 26miles = running at a pace of faster than 5min per mile for 26 consecutive miles.

Your belittling on this occasion does seem to have been rather counter productive. 😉

5 hours is so embarrassing as to be unmentionable

Well I'll mention it. My sister should finish in 5:30 any minute now along with my other sister who is running her 56th marathon (she ran back-to-back marathons last weekend to warm up!).

She has Stage 4 terminal cancer.

<sigh> Fair enough. Add qualification of your choice cancer/disabled/1 legged/diver/dinosaur/banana/Z list celeb etc.

For the average able bodied club runner, 5 hours is not something they would be happy with.

Now toddle off Tired and give your sister a good cheer there's a good chap. Surely you should be running with her rather than trying trying to score cheap points on here...

What an ignorant thing to say. Anyone that finishes a marathon can be proud.

She has Stage 4 terminal cancer.

Incredible...Amazing amazing effort...

Blimey. Ignorant? The chap was making a cheap jibe about maths and apologised as he'd got it wrong. That's all.

OK, if you're a 5 hour plus finisher; well done you. We're all winners, there are no losers etc. <sigh>

Whats your best time then? Whilst they were running a marathon you were dribbling away on the internet. Go on enlighten us to what time you deem suitable to be called a 'winner'

Sometimes it's better to just shut up and stop being a dick.

As far as I am concerned they all deserve a well done, regardless of time.

i've never run a marathon. I'm a reasonably fit guy yet the though of training and running one is not one i'd like to entertain. Everyone I know who has done one described it as hell, regardless of time...

They also all felt it was an incredible achievement in just finishing.....

So no pissing competition from me...just keen to hear what a superstar you clearly are...

So you're getting all wound up secondhand on what you've heard from others? I'm no superstar and make no claim to be. I'll finish faster than 5:00 and slower than 02:05. Perhaps I was a bit indelicate but, with hindsight I suppose it's only a matter of time before the professionally offended turn up.

<edit>
Once again for those too busy frothing to read:

Finished in 5:26 🙂 . Limp off being the right term, boblo, as I was hit by a car two weeks ago today and have only been out of hospital a week. I'm very proud of her, and my other sister who finished two hours over her PB to take care of her sister.

What a load of pish. Finishing a marathon in any time is something to be proud of. Sitting slagging people off on the internet because they're not superhuman is embarrassing.

Anyone that finishes a marathon can be proud.

I dispute this.

There will be many finishing in excess of 5hrs (or any time come to that) that will have done their best on the day who can all be very proud. That's not everyone though. I once went to London to support some of my wife's colleagues. All 3 of them injury & illness free, in their 20s. They had patently done no training whatsoever. We were waiting for them at Tower Bridge - we waited and we waited......novelty rhinos and pantomime horses went past; the default inconceivably old boys in club vests doddered past; the couple getting married on the bridge arrived in full wedding clobber, finished their nuptials and went past, the bloke with a broken leg on crutches went past; the cleaners and banner removers went through. Then the three of them turned up, walking, chatting and laughing, two of them on the phone. Apparently they finished in 9.5hrs.

They got the full hero's welcome on their return to the office and bigged up how hard it was. And then proceeded to only collect about a third of the minimum required for their charity spots.

So no, not everyone who finishes a marathon should be proud of themselves.

Well I'm not rising to it. If you want to get all worked up, be my guest. There was no intention to offend as the context was this:

For the average able bodied club runner, 5 hours is not something they would be happy with.

So if you still want to get all of a tizzy, crack on just watch the blood pressure 😀

BTW dick and tit? Let's keep it civil, no need for that.

In response to converts post.

In that case then quite the opposite for them. Plenty of people who would take it seriously don't get the chance. But I would very much hope they are a very small minority. Most people seem to be pushing themselves and taking pride in the effort.

Now tpbiker, you really need to pack the personal insults in. 'Ignorant', 'ignorant tit' and 'stupid' are both rude and unnecessary. Please stop it.

Read the bold context, try and absorb it and perhaps calm down a bit.

For the average able bodied club runner, 5 hours is not something they would be happy with.

Well firstly my last post gave you credit for not being stupid actually....

As for the 'ignorant tit comment'..it was based on your response to Tired's story of his sister...and I feel more than justified.

Sure a club runner may not be happy with 5 hours...but that wasn't your original comment was it. It was that 5 hours is 'so embarrasing as to be unmentionable'....

given the average finishing time is 4.30 that comment is clearly rubbish..

And with your vast experience of listening to others and reading about it... Oh never mind. It's like trying to knock a nail into concrete. Just keep a lid on the personal stuff there's a good chap. Byee.

Blimey , I think Boblo's comments were a perfectly understandable response to my post , which in hindsight makes me come over as a bit of a dick . Lot of people very easily offended on here .
