I know not everyone's obsessed with the Last of Us games - but I'm guilty of wasting hours playing them and I'm very much looking forward to this dropping in Jan 🙂

They were very 'cinematic' to play and had a great story - so I have high hopes!

Thoughts? I enjoyed the first one, shows a lot of promise. I'll be sticking with it for now.  Atmospheric, sticks to the game plot pretty closely (from what I can remember - it's been a while) and the acting is on point.

Not played the games but this is right up my street I think. Already missing the walking dead.🙁

I'll need to watch it on Now.

Is it dropping weekly or is the whole series out?

I only really want to pay for one month of Now.😁

Looks like there'll be 9 episodes, first was pretty much a double at nearly 90 minutes, looked good and worked well, they have a great basis and they've brought in a decent cast (John Hannah is in it for a cameo!) and the writers are either from the original videogame, or written other decent stuff.

The only thing i can say that's a bit negative is that we do seem to be getting so many apocalyptic end of days stuff these days, certainly fits in with the way things are, but it's bloody depressing all the time!

Lasted 1/2 hr. I know it's based on a game but it just felt like I was watching someone playing a game which is the most boring thing ever

Yeah I like the Zombie games - Arma dayZ and other large scale multiplayers like planetside 2, and I watch a twitch streamer called RunningManZ's vids pretty much daily.. Not tried the actual standalone DayZ, but i will eventually.

I'll be interested to see how this goes. Not often they take a real life series out a game and make it a good rendition.

I think it's like the late 60's early 70's with Planet of the Apes, Soylent Green etc. It's reflecting a pessimistic view of where the world is heading.

Lucky, I love this kind of stuff and it doesn't depress me at all. Oddly, particularly during lockdown, I sought out apocalyptic stuff even more. I actually find it reassuring! Lol

Enjoyed that. Haven't played a computer game in about 10 years and if I didn’t know it was based on one, there’s no way I would’ve guessed. Look forward to how it progresses.

really? Super clichéd plot didn’t give it away? 🤔😂
Decent opener though, will stick with it. PP very watchable as ever even if he’s been a bit restrained in this so far!

Thought it was very good, sticks close to the game and it’s brutal.

Very much enjoyed the first episode, it seems like they're sticking pretty close to the game so far which is a good thing!

My GF rolled her eyes with the "Oh not another zombie show haven't they done this to death?" and I'm just like... you don't say that about all the hospital or police dramas you watch, why this other genre? It's not about what kind of story it's telling, it's about how it tells that story.

We've definitely seen the whole 'Start of a zombie apocalypse' before but TLOU goes its own way pretty rapidly. Can't wait for the rest of the season.

I’m not a massive gamer so didn’t really know much about it at all, but thoroughly enjoyed that last night.

Love the way they shot some of the scenes like a game. That’s either going to work, if done really well, or it’s really, really not

Loved it. Played the games loads, the first episode followed parts of it and differed massively in others. No problem with that though, it’s an epic story and it’ll be good to see how they tell it. Joel wasn’t as grumpy as I thought and Elle was very different looks wise. Think it works though and looking forward to that next 8 episodes. It’ll be great to see some other story lines fleshed out (Bill).

It's been getting lots of praise from critics and fans of the games. Like others have said, I'll wait until the last couple of episodes then rejoin NowTV and binge it.

This also reminds me that I am yet to finish TLOU 1 (at the University level) and yet to start TLOU 2. One day...

Enjoyed that. Had it running on the second monitor whilst trying to work but got so distracted I had turn it off until I’d finished earning.
I never knew it existed as a game until I saw the trailer.
Also the first zombie series I’ve ever watched.

As a big gamer, I'm not sure what you mean? I didn't see any scenes that were shot like a game. no third person type viewpoints. Unless you mean game cutscenes, which these days are rivalling movie CGI scenes?

Anywho, thoroughly enjoyed that - it's been a while since I played/watched the first game so I can't remember the details of the storyline but I remember the big points.

The grandma in the chair was pretty chilling and I've seen loads of zombie type films/TV shows.

Pedro Pascal can do little wrong in my eyes too, which helps! Not 100% on the casting of Ellie but I'm sure I'll get used to her after a few episodes.

The cause of the ‘zombification’ is based on proper science and actual infections.

or me really can’t think of any part that was any different to other shows.

The cause of the ‘zombification’ is based on proper science and actual infections.

If only they had a cameo appearance of someone explaining just that at the start.

Warning, some slight spoilers based on the game. Watch at least Ep1 before viewing.

I found this enlightening.

Finally watched the first ep last night –

79 minutes ia too much of a commitment for me, but watched most of the first half. I like the early 2000s setting, and can see the young actress protagonist developing into a compelling central figure. Will watch more tonight I'm sure

2nd episode today, really well done. They nailed a certain zombie type (trying not to give away spoilers to those new to the story).

I like that several lines were taken directly from the game.

It's two episodes in and quite slow, it's got that feel of following the video game a little too much, but still a long way to go, just a shame it's one episode a week, so you either stop watching and view them over a weekend, or have these week breaks where it kind of loses a lot of its flow.

As someone with zero investment in the game, found ep2 a bit slow & very much re-treading ground already explored (at great length!) in Walking Dead, etc.
Keen to see what twist they put on it though and what the next level episode brings 😃

I was going to ask, is it something that would be more rewarding if you're familiar with the games?

I have the original on the PS3 but I think I've spent a total of about one evening with it.

Never seen the game. Loving the series, being from a game doesn't seem relevant at all. Walking Dead was just dull.

Same for me. So far, it's a decent action drama. If I didn't know it was from a game, I wouldn't have guessed. I don't think I made it past Ep 1 of Walking Dead. Never been into zombie stuff, this works for me because it downplays the horror side of stuff.

I started TLOU (the original) in 2017 and only finished it last weekend because I wanted to start on Pt2 before I binge the series when S1 wraps up.

The game itself has I think been re-released twice since 2013; Remastered = PS4/Pro enhanced, and Part 1 = PS5 enhanced. It's brilliant, whichever version you play. Possibly not imperative to watching the TV series, but there's certainly some back story in there.

Never seen the game.

Me neither. Last thing I played was Doom, probably. But I'm guessing that the plot (get from A to B avoiding obstacles and killing the odd zomb) is fairly gamey? The young lass is british btw, as are so many actors in US dramas.

Ah, so the new "... Part 1" is a remaster of the original game, not a new game? I didn't know that.

Correct, guessing they changed the naming to better fit with the 2nd game "Part 2".

You know it's a good game when it's been remastered/remade twice!

Again, really enjoyed it. They seem to have worked very hard to nail the feel of the game. The locations, lighting, effects etc. are spot on.  The 'clickers' were absolutely perfect!

Even though though I sort of know what's going to happen (if it continues to to stick to the game script), it's very entertaining TV.

I thought the early episodes of Walking Dead were OK, then it totally lost it's way, becoming dull, repetitive and predictable. This is way, way better IMO.

Never played the game, but found some of the game 'devices' a bit weird and immersion-breaking. Rubble falling down behind the characters to stop them avoiding a fight, for example.

I'm not sure the landscape near Boston looks like that, either...

Great TV, I enjoyed the first few seasons of the walking dead before it ran out of plot but this is a different league. Watching with my 16yo daughter who hasn't played the game but watched various walk throughs. Insists on breaking to show how well it replicates the game and how well it doesn't too (Episode 3).
