I’m the least artistic person in history but I really could watch Bob for hours! Even if it is all happy squirrels and log cabins and lakes!
It’s so relaxing and perm filled!!

Totally. It's been one of those things that has really taken off since lockdown I think. I kind of remember him from when I was a kid, and then his little appearances on Peep Show years later. Glad to have Bob Ross always there, painting those happy little clouds.

Soporiphic. Scheduling must have been planned to keep the masses chilled during lockdown.

First time I saw it, I genuinely couldn't work out if it was some sort of elaborate long joke...But no.

Bob Ross was a wonderful bloke, served time in the military in Alaska as a sargeant and swore he would never raise his voice to people ever again. He got his love of painting from his time in Alaska and adopted a technique which allowed for painting quickly wet on wet. He had a passion to spread art to everyone and give people the confidence to have a go themselves. A wonderful bloke who just wanted people to enjoy nature and enjoy painting without all the snobbery it can be attached to.
IIRC all his shows were on public access TV and he made his money by selling some of his products but he still toured round and gave lessons on how to paint his way for a long time.

There’s not many people who inspire others to paint, and probably no one who has inspired so many people around the world. And all with a smile and a pleasant attitude.

A friend of mines teenage daughter was inspired him to paint during lockdown - still inspiring others long after he has passed away.

We need more programmes like Joy of Painting on TV. Absolutely brilliant.

Fun fact. You can't buy a Bob Ross painting even though he painted three copies of each TV show painting. They are all kept in storage by Bob Ross inc.

You can’t not love Bob.

If you’ve not watched the BBC4 documentary on how it all got started, then it’s well worth a viewing.

Bob Ross- the Happy Painter

A truly inspiring bloke

Watched that BBC documentary a couple of weeks ago.
What a legend. They need to do Bob Ross podcasts for insomniacs.

Loved watching his shows many years ago as a 20 something. (me that is)

Now watched again and everybody I introduce to him laughs at first with his happy clouds and mistakes but they all end up watching more, irrespective of their age.

Didn't know about the documentary and have downloaded it to watch tonight. 🙂

Loved watching him on one of the Sky Channels in the early nineties. I did get some paint and brushes and had a go at painting in his style. It was a ****ing disaster so just stuck to watching him instead.

I love Bob. My wife, not so much so. In that my wife doesn't love Bob, not that I don't love my wife! Bob's total class, and The Joy of Painting is a great bit of relaxing telly.
