Welcome to the first official* STW Super Happy Fun Time Quiz!

(* - still totally and utterly unofficial)

Your hosts are:
@NBT: Quiz-master.
@RogerMoore: Zoom-master.
@Cougar: Cat-herding master.

The quiz will be played via myquiz.org so we'd strongly suggest having two separate devices for the chat and the quiz. Please check that you can load the site in your browser of choice ahead of time. You can sign up via various methods but it's not mandatory, you can just play a one-off by entering the game code on the front page.

The running order is thus:

7:30pm - We will post a Zoom link for the chat channel on the forum. So if you haven't already, go install Zoom now and test that it works. Choice of video / audio / text / lurking is up to you, no chat shaming.

Changing your Zoom display name to something forum-recognisable would be helpful, shall we say 'username (real name)' unless you'd rather remain anonymous? Three dots in the corner of your video in a Windows client, other devices I don't know.

I shall endeavour not to say any rude words but will likely fail inside of the first minute so anyone with small ears in range may want to equip themselves with a headset.

7:40 - The game code for the quiz will be dropped into the Zoom group.

7:50 - The same code will be posted here on the forum. So, active participants get first dibs on slots, after that it’s open season.

8:00 - start of the quiz, faffage notwithstanding. You should still be able to join the quiz after it's started but you won't score for questions you've missed.

8:30 - end of the quiz, assuming we managed to start promptly. Hang out and pretend we like each other until we all get bored.

There is a hard limit of 50 on the quiz because free software. If we hit that I will be absolutely astounded (from the comments here I’m hoping for half that) but should that happen and you’re blocked out you can still join the chat thanks to RM’s generously loaned paid-for Zoom account.

The quiz comprises 12 rounds of 5 multiple choice questions each. The rounds are:

– St Patricks Day
– Geography
– Travel
– Art
– Mythbusters
– History
– Literature
– Landmarks
– Food
– Board Games
– Film
– General Knowledge

Once the quiz starts, it will run automatically. You will have 18 seconds to read and answer the question, then 12 seconds to understand why you got it wrong and what the right answer was 😀

This means that the quiz will take 30 minutes to run (18+12 = 30 seconds, * 60 questions = 30 minutes). Scores are kept automatically and you can see the leaderboard to see how you’re doing.

Anyone is welcome on the chat at any time, but I’d ask that if you don’t get a quiz slot then please don’t be disruptive until it’s finished. If it does turn messy then we might have to mute everyone, so if that happens then don’t take it personally as we’ll likely do it across the board.

What a cracking night! Thanks Cougar for suggetsing it and pulling it together. The quiz itself seemed to go down fairly well, and then the "hanging around and talking bollocks" bit was a good do - by turns serious and very much not serious. Good craic. Problem was when we fired up Zoom at 19.30 I was finishing the pint of tea I'd had after my tea, and the pint of vimto I'd had with my tea, then I had a pint of beer, then halfway through I had another pint of beer. When I finally got up and moved I was struck my a sudden desire to pee so I had to go and do jobs while trying not to put too much pressure in cetain areas. When I finally got to the lavvy I spent about what seemd like 15 minutes standing there pissing like a racehorse....

I've got a few more quizzes that I can run and would be very happy to do so - but I'm equally happy to let someone else do the honours next time then I can have the fun of taking part in the quiz. Maybe run another one in three or four weeks eh?

Just finished the weekly pep call with the team and feeling bright and breezy. A good time was had by all from recollection and if I had realised it was going on so long I would have brought some refreshments other than wasabi peas which have left my mouth rather dry this morning.

Thanks again for organising even though I felt like a social outsider with no facial hair and being from the South 🙂

I'm glad to say that any pub where we actually held this quiz would have been delighted by the range and quite frankly quantity of beverages that were consumed

Is it actually possible to die of a hangover?

As I've been known to say to Bunnyhop in the past, you're not really ill if you're afraid you might die. You don't need to worry until you feel so bad you're more afraid you won't die

Thanks for a good night, was really good to see some faces. I came last place but got the kids related questions right 😂

Sorry I wasn't visual for the whole thing, confidence and self esteem is completely shot between everything. Would definitely join in on another one though and try to be there for it all.

I was going to pop back on but liberty was pretty emotional as usual at bedtime and I thought it would have finished by the time I calmed her down and she settled off. Clearly not lol.

Kids enjoyed seeing you all too, I'm sure they'd be up for another cameo in a future call if that would be OK with everyone.

@nbt I'm happy for a screenshot to be put up (if I'm on there that is)

Dude, I said from the outset that there's no expectations. It was good to put a face to the name. If you / anyone wants to join and lurk that's absolutely fine.

I think I'm going to chalk this as a success. The quiz worked, it seems to have been well received, and and I managed to get tipsy rather than riotously drunk and call everyone See You Next Tuesdays. If my partners in crime are amenable we'll do another maybe next month sometime?

But we in it shall be rememberèd—
We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;

When it all started, we were there. We were the very foundations of something great.

or alternatively, a bunch of bored middle aged people with nothing better to do than talk bollocks with each other for a while. Either way works 😀

Everyone looks extremely studious.

I however am wondering what to make for tomorrow's lunch.

Wish I was middle aged - falling into the old category now.

Pook - did you really purchase something online in that state?

Edit: Binners you were conspicuous by your absence.

gnusmas - It was truly lovely to see you and your energetic children. I'll look forward to chatting to Liberty more in the future (which will bore her to death and she'll soon by asleep).
