We've done the 90's, let's hit the millenium.

There's one standout for me: In Absentia by Porcupine Tree, let's hear yours.

I think I will start in 2000 with "hybrid theory"

and I can't decide between "whatever people say I am that's what I'm not" or "favourite worst nightmare"

Interpol, Turn on the bright lights.

Done.

I couldn’t pick a single favourite for 80s/90s. But for noughties this is an easy answer for me.

Songs for the Deaf or Them Crooked Vultures are two albums I have to listen to fully, every time I put them on.

Came here to say

Whatever People Say I Am That’s What I’m Not

this.

At the time, I just thought it was a great album. It's only in the intervening years that I've come to appreciate it as one of THE great albums. It's so of it's time and place, and yet timeless.

My only complaint is that when it finally came out, it sounded disappointingly produced in comparison to the demo versions that made it famous, and that we were all used to.

Funeral – Arcade Fire

My first thought.

Though I was also very fond of The Go!Team's and Crystal Castles' debut albums.

Awkward that two out of those three are potentially problematic now.

Actually my favourite is probably M.I.A - Arular

That just hits all the spots for me. Her lyrics and delivery, Diplo's beats, it still sounds fresh now.

It's Blitz by Yeah Yeah Yeahs is bloody great too.

Eminem - the marshall Mathers LP.
Streets - original pirate material.
Strokes - is this it?
Tool - lateralus
Badly drawn boy - hour of the bewilderbeast.

Those are my picks.

Whatever People Say I Am That’s What I’m Not

Also, mainly because it's still my all time favourite. Sheffield folk music for that decade.

Songs for the Deaf - QOTSA
Funeral - Arcade Fire
Since I Left You - Avalanches (22 years ago yesterday, actually!)

Too hard to pick just one! So much good stuff from those years. Songs For The Deaf is up there. Then there's all the best Mastodon albums - Remission, Leviathan, Blood Mountain and Crack The Skye. Every Time I Die's The Big Dirty and New Junk Aesthetic too.

Whatever People Say I Am That’s What I’m Not

Very good shout too, still my favourite album of theirs. The newer stuff is self indulgent dross, especially the most recent album which is unlistenable.

My (almost) best and worst gigs

Sheffield homecoming at Don Valley, then playing the last album (can't even remember it's name) at Sheffield Arena

Of course! Some classics in there, though I really loved Once More 'Round the Sun too (although that's for the next thread!). There's also White Pony, and the lesser loved (but still much adored here) Saturday Night Wrist by Deftones too.

Radiohead - Kid A

Madvillian - Madvillainy

Boards Of Canada - Geogaddi

Postal Service - Give Up

I'll pick these four today. I love them all and still listen to them regularly, they just don't grow old.

Yeah, I was organising a lads night out to watch them next year, by the time I got some definite answers they had sold out, when I heard their latest offerings I realised it was a lucky escape.

I didn't answer on the others, cos it's just too hard to pick anything. I mean 1990s, I can't even choose which Underworld album I like best, or Bjork album... let alone which single album. It's just silly, but then you get the 2000s, there's even more fab music out... just ridiculous to choose a favourite ("Greatest" is just silly). White Stripes, Alex Smoke, Subtle, Burial, Mos Def, Gorrilaz, Apparat, Modeselektor, Liars, Peaches, The Music, DOOM, Thom Yorke's solo stuff.. like nah, its impossible.

There's a very strong case for this actually, I must admit.

Absolutely superb. Their most recent album from last year is also good.

Hard to believe that Frontier Psychiatrist and the video is over 20 years old.

I've been brought some tickets for next year, which is a very kind thought, but I don't think I've ever listened to any of their albums beyond the third one!

Maybe they'll have a massive, acrimonious falling out and it'll all get cancelled. 🤞

Probably this but I didn't listen to it till the 2010's so I'll pick one I did.

Origin of symmetry - Muse
