@hora, my thoughts entirely. I enjoyed it for its wackiness but didn't "get it"

Have you seen 'The Life Aquatic'? Same crew. IMO The Grand Budapest is better, and has more subtle examples of the nuances of human nature...

Plus the part played by Jeremy Irons is sure brilliance.

It's good, but not great in the way that, for example, Amelie is.

Was he in it?

Anyway, genius movie. I really rate his previous film too - Moonrise Safari. Really liked Bruce Willis' character.

I love Wes Anderson films, but missed grand Budapest at the cinema, and still have not watched it...

After sitting through The Life Aquatic and the Royal Tenenbaums Wes Anderson can go F*** himself. Never again. Complete and utter ego stroking self indulgent in-joke ****ery of the highest order. IMO.

Thought it sucked. Trying too hard to be odd but just being not particularly good.

Enjoyed it, its not great but still watchable, its a Wes Anderson film so you kind of know what your going to get.

Cough "Moonrise Kingdom" coughs.

All Wes Anderson films are works of Art, all of them.
If you don't get them your brains wired up proper rong 😆

Love Wes Anderson films, they just tick along with a surreal atmosphere and gentle humour. 8)

I can rarely be bothered to watch all of a film but this had me captivated all the way through.

I enjoyed it, but I didn't think it was THAT good.

As for Amelie (heavy sigh) why does everyone think mad french birds are so awesome ? (see also Betty Blue). If she wasn't pretty, dumb and foreign, it would be a film about a bunny boiling stalker with Micheal Douglas.

I love all his films, Grand Budapest Hotel particularly, but I typically need to drink just enough red wine to be in the proper receptive mood for them, but not so much that the gentle pace sends me to sleep, which is often a struggle if I'm honest 😕

^^ Then you need to get your brain wired up correctly 😆

Bruce Willis was excellent in it but the star was the young girl..

I still can't figure out if I love or hate it*. Last night I was thinking it reminded me of the eastern European/Scandinavian fables/children shows from the 80's etc.

Surprised it was almost exclusively filmed in Germany as it looks very Czech then I noticed where the town is in Germany.... 😀

Moonrise Kingdom next.

*I hated both Amelie and Lost in Translation on my first viewing...soon changed to love.

Love his films in the main, have not seen this yet but it's on the list.

Life Aquatic is simply wonderful, Darjeeling Limited anyone?

I'm a huge Wes Anderson fan, Moonrise Kingdom being my favourite, but I've constantly struggled to get through 'The Royal Tenenbaums', it drives me up the wall.

If you search for anymore WA films, steer clear of " Squid and a Whale" it's not actually a WA film, more he got involved but didn't produce.
Not saying it's weak, just not what you would expect..
