my better half has just fallen out with me and went to bed in a huff because I said I thought Dua Lipa was miming. Apparently I ‘kept overanalysing everything and ruined it

😂😂😂

I got accused of being an old man because seemingly twice I'd remarked, while the camera panned out festival-wide in quiet moments between songs during the awesome Dua Lipa, that I just couldn't understand why you weren't being assaulted by noise from all the other big stages and happenings around the site. Seems remarkably quiet. Can't hear a peep 🤔

It's not unrealistic though. I think the sound at Glastonbury is generally very good and it's not like in the "old days" when massive stacks at the sides of the stage basically muscled sound to the back with sheer volume. They've got various speakers all over the place with different throws to get a reasonable sound level over quite a wide area and the directionality, coupled with relatively low volume means there's surprisingly little leakage heard from other stages even during quiet bits.

Ooh I didn't know that Soft Play were on? Really loved their first album. Not heard their new stuff.

My wife is having a few mates over to watch Coldplay. 2016 a few of us watched their set on TV, one of the guys died in a car crash the next day 😕

IDLES – what a glorious f***ING noise.  Joe Talbot is a great front man 🙂

That's not singing, it's just shouting.

Turns out what the BBC list as "Dexys and PJ Harvey" isn't a collaboration but two separate sets. I now have Let England Shake running in my head to the tune of Come On Eileen, I guess it's not so unlikely as I initially thought.

Turned Dua Lipa off and went to bed. Thought the sound mix was awful, could hardly hear her over the mix. Too much dancing and not enough singing. I hope it sounded better in person. And that’s watching it with n the big screen with full surround sound

When’s Rick on?

Idles & LCD Soundsystem have been the highlights for me so far.

Not a fan of Fountaines - or rather the mardy front man, depressing stuff.

Literally switched on as Michael Kiwanuka started up, pleased to see he's still current, thought he had been a bit flash-in-the-pan on the back of the Big Little Lies soundtrack.

Was about to complain that he sounded a bit 'studio' even live but then the lead guitarist delivered a pretty spicy wee solo 😎

What's with the big flags on huge poles? I'd be royally annoyed if I were at the rear and wazzocks with Watford fc flags were obscuring the tiny singing figure.

They've been doing it for years. A lot of them are pretty high up so wouldn't obscure the view and if it does you're probably watching the screen anyway

I know they're not everyone's cup of tea, and that's OK. Life would be dull if we all liked the same things, they're not mine either. But Coldplay do put on a show, and 100,000-odd people seem to be properly into it. I suspect it would be a real experience to be there for it.

I thought that they were a bit boring. Really front loaded all of their biggest songs. I mean fairly play, they really know how to headline a show. Just felt a bit flat from halfway through. Will check out Jessie Ware....is it just me, or has pretty much all of the stuff dropped off iPlayer currently?

(and not Glasto, but on  similar tip, if you've not come across them have a YouTube dig around for Peat And Diesel)

Truly, truly awful music and Chris Martin was cringeworthy

20 years ago, maybe even 10 I'd have agreed. And I still do a bit that Chris Martin grates a wee bit. But as I've got older, and dare I say it a bit more mature, I disagree. It's not awful, it's clearly very good at what it is and loads of people love it.  It's not my cup of tea but that's fine. What music you like is opinion and telling 100,000 people last night their opinion is shit is, well, shit.

I don't own any Coldplay albums, and don't plan to on the back of last night. I don't own any Jessie Ware either, FWIW. But from what I've seen I'd have loved to have been in the crowd for either of those sets last night, as they were epic.

If you genuinely hate it, that's fine too. It's opinion and you can't be wrong when it comes to artistic taste. But maybe, you just haven't grown up fully yet 😉

(and there was i thinking as I got older I was supposed to get even more 'modern music is rubbish! What is this crap you're listening to with my my kids?!')

I liked Coldplay's first album but since then they just got on my wick a bit, a bit samey too. Friend of mine is there with his daughter and we'd said it was a shame for him to miss Orbital to have to see Coldplay, her choice. We were wrong, she was right.. quite a performance. Yeah, a bit of a cringe here and there but the guy is a natural performer.

Would have loved to have been there for Orbital though. Lush, Chime and Halcyon, live and loud in a lit-up field.. 🙌🏻 time machine stuff

Me too. When my twitter feed is full of angry comments about Banksy's boat after I read just 1 tweet from Farage and now my feed is full of hate, Chris martin's genuine warmth and enthusiasm for all comers is a welcome respite. I've never been that into Coldplay's music but its not always about the actual tune, sometimes it's just about how music can bring people together and that looked like an amazing place to be.

I also enjoyed Coldplay, a fantastic show. Was a bit taken aback by Michael J Fox's appearance and I'm still not sure who benefitted from that; it seemed a bit contrived and a bit virtue signally (but then I'm a cynical bastard and probably overthinking it!).

Complete antidote to that was catching the Mary wallopers as recommended by colournoise, never have I wanted a can of Guinness with breakfast before 😂

Yeah, a bit of a cringe here and there but the guy is a natural performer.

I think the performance thing trumps everything else, especially if all the audience around you are into the artist.  I saw Yungblud at a festival a week ago and he wasnt anywhere on my playlist but it was fantastic as he could really perform where a lot of the artists there were going through their show and it sounded good but there was no real connection.

I've been a fan of the Coldplay live show since they closed the Paralympics in 2012.  It was a really fitting closing ceremony, brought everyone together, and blew away the, frankly weird, Olympics closing ceremony.

I wouldn't listen to Coldplay, I wouldn't go to a live show by them, and I certainly wouldn't go to Glastonbury (Supersonic is my festival of choice), but I will watch a live Coldplay show on the telly. In an increasingly divided world, they can unite people and the warmth and humanity shown by Chris Martin is a good antidote.

Sometimes it's cool to not be cool.
