Might just be me but it seems like there are more people around these days trying to find things to be offended by.

The counterpoint here being that some people use this line as an excuse to be gratuitously offensive.

TBH I think both sides of the argument could do with a healthy injection of common sense.

More handwringing denouncements of old comedy.

US Comedy show 'The Office' 'Problematic'

Little Britain 'Not Very Woke'

The two sets of people seem to be equally represented these days.

Wouldn't call it offensive, just baffled why people thought it was so funny. Same for Little Britain.

I suppose I've just never really enjoyed catchphrase comedy.

The program hasn’t changed, you have changed.

Of course, along with much of society.

There's a lot of comedy other people like that I don't find at all funny. Doesn't baffle me. They just have a different sense of humour.

@DezB  +1 to that. My best man thinks Peter Kaye is brilliant and can't stand Father Ted. I'm the other way round. Neither of us is right or wrong, we've just got different tastes in this area.

Of course, shows like the Fast Show making fun of prejudice may well be one reason society DID change.

And Larry David wasn’t established way before Gervais?

So we concur CYE hit the screen before The Office and Larry David was knee deep in Seinfeld before Gervais had done what of notability? (the small bits of 11 o’clock show?)

You said The Office was  directly influenced by Curb Your Enthusiasm. I pointed out The Office came to screen months after CyE did by which I meant Gervais had done well to watch CyE, write a script, get it approved, make it and get it released in the time between the two.

I’ll leave that one there as can’t be bothered to engage with some one who can’t stand to be wrong.

As for the original Fast Show point, as others have said it was a clear dig at what it is now accused of being by the op. Tedious.
