Don’t you mean one Rangers fan?

Nope, only the bangers you see out and about. It's like assuming all Celtic fans are provos and all Hibs fans are spoon burners.

Aberdeen? Christ, there's a fun bunch!, I was in a pub after a course in the city when Motherwell pumped them 3-0 oot the cup a few years back, I've never experienced an atmosphere like it.

I just want to say ( 'cos I have made a few negative posts) that i am seriously impressed with the way the england team and manager have conducted themselves.

makes the flag waving politicians look really stupid

I have to agree with this - thankfully we have a strong core of believably honest players such as Kane, Sterling, Phillips and Rashford led by a manager who is a breath of fresh air. This means that the players that could be perceived to be a bit more old-school 'lads' with a bit of previous such as Maguire and Grealish (who would have been the first in the 'dentist's chair' in an England team of old) haven't become the focus of media attention.

I would more impressed with the England team if they took a stand against the boooing by England fans of the opposing teams national anthem.

Sitting where I am it is ****ing embarrassing. Has nothing to do with sportsmanship and the players should make a point that it isn't cool.

I'd be more impressed if instead of saying England fans, you said 'a small but vocal minority of nobheads'

As I said a page or two back, I've been at games where the majority of the crowd observe them perfectly and 'shush' the nobheads.

The FA frequently requests it to be respected. Including right before the anthem itself.

I've a confession to make

The front of my house is festooned with England flags.

But please done judge me too harshly STW, when the tournament started the lad (aged 10) asked can we have a flag out and I told him if we reach the final then yes we could.

So my dastardly plan has failed and I couldn't be more delighted.... especially for the boy.

Whats a fitting punishment for the lazers? to me it should be england thrown out and a denmark italy final. I doubt anyone else would agree tho

You think a finalist should be thrown out of the tournament because of one nobhead 'fan'?

Yes, thats seems entirely proportionate.

What are your views on shoplifters? Hands chopped off, I presume?

because the lazers may well have affected the outcome of the game and as a deterrent to stop future instances

So what your saying is that anything that potentially 'affected the outcome of the game' should mean the team would be booted out of the tournament?

I look forward to the World Cup next year where all the teams taking part are disqualified before we're half way through the first group stage

Yep - and if a team are losing then a fan could shine a laser on one of their own players to get the other team booted out so they can progress.

TJs plan needs a little more deep thought...

I do entirely agree with this sentiment, though.

Its why I'll probably lend them my support on Sunday, especially if they play positively amid a typical display of Italian "gamesmanship"

I would more impressed with the England team if they took a stand against the booing by England fans of the opposing teams national anthem.

To be fair at least its a step forward from booing their own players

So by the same reasoning a single cyclist jumps a red light and we should all be fined?

And as said - 2-0 down, just shine a laser at one of your own players, blame the other team, sorted.

Needs work, that idea.

This may be of interest to someone

A friend has 2 tickets in a corporate box for the England v Italy game on Sunday.

He paid £2,750 each, but he didn't realise when he bought them months ago that it was going to be the same day as his wedding!

If you are interested, he is looking for someone to take his place.

It's at Leeds Registry Office, at 5pm. Her name is Sarah.  She's 5'5", brunette, size 10, quite pretty, has her own income and is a really good cook!

UEFA has opened an investigation, into the laser and the booing if the national anthem. They will issue a fine, as usual. They did try to find the person with the laser but failed

To be fair, if you are going to start banning teams from tournaments because of the fans, you might want to start with central and south america, where fans vomit and urinate into bags and dump it on the players as they come out of the tunnel. Or laundh it at them while they are playing.

giving a green light to people doing this again and teaching that cheats win

That's every game that Italy/Brazil/Argentina win.

A great article in today’s Guardian by Marina Hyde, who’s a great sports writer herself, about politicians and football

We can’t keep politics out of sport, but please keep politicians out of football

Did you see the prime minister in the fancy seats at Wembley on Wednesday? He seemed to have come dressed as a particularly brutal Matt Lucas impersonation of himself. As for the young lady standing to his left and smiling indulgently at him, it’s nice that his … carer, is it? … takes him out for the day and buys him a football top.

That's cos the rest of of knows it's 90 minutes, maybe 120 minutes of cowering behind furniture and trying not to be sick.

I'm remarkably unworked up about tomorrow. I couldn't sleep the night before the semi, but I like being underdogs, the feeling of being in a final, I love Italy and have some good Italian friends..... it might all change before the game but for now just looking forward to it.

Things I'd like to see tomorrow.

No controversies; no red cards or dodgy penalties or VAR close ones. Anthems respected. A game won by a moment of skill or brilliance, not a mistake or a deflected OG. Pickford looking like he's spent the last three days in a Buddhist retreat.

Things I'd love to see but won't.

Boris looking shame faced while the players take a knee. Prince William just looking at him and slowly shaking his head while Kate makes the Nescafe gesture. The whole crowd singing 'Where were you, where were you, where were you when we were s**t' at the massed ranks of the cabinet in the VIP seats. Pickford looking like he's spent the last three days in a Buddhist retreat.

Given that England has a higher covid rate than India, largely attributed to Euro 2020, and UEFA blackmailed the UK into granting 2500 members of the FIFA family the same quarantine etc exemption as the athletes, by threatening to give Hungary the final if they didn't and the media team embedded with the Italians have got Covid, I don't think Kate would make a whole lot of difference, frankly.

If she's still isolating it was a very convincing lookalike handing over the trophy at the ladies singles today.

She'll have been sad to miss yesterday though, apparently she loves watching the men's semis.

I've watched bits of Euros 2020, but I've discovered football does very little for me these days, I used to religiously watch MOTD and tournaments until a few years ago. I used to dream of England reaching a final in my lifetime, but now it's of no real interest, maybe five(?) home games so far and how it's blatently spreading Delta at Wembley / pubs / private homes has taken more than the edge off it for me.

I'm no expert but them as claim to be seem pretty convinced, largely due to the timing I suppose, that the Euros are driving current numbers. Not simply the crowds at games but everywhere else, pubs, houses, streets etc. Not a lot of masks or distancing going on.

Recorded Covid rate. Not Covid rate. Testing rates in the UK are massively higher than India. And in India only hospital deaths are being recorded - just think of the countless millions in poverty and / or in rural locations with little or no access to healthcare. There have been many reports of bodies being given ‘burials’ in the Ganges and those deaths aren’t being reliably recorded.

Recorded Covid rate

Well yeah. If it isn't recorded how do you know if it happened. It's as theoretical as Morata scoring.

Both places have been testing over a million per day. That's a lower proportion of Indias population but a far bigger sample than is necessary to be statistically significant. I'm willing to bet the testing rate in rural India is no worse than the most deprived areas of england. Which are often in cities. Which itself should be a source of shame.

Burials in the Ganges are quite normal. Not supposed to happen but. Visit a river near a Sikh community and you'll find ashes at the very least.

Either way, recorded cases are up a lot since the Euros started. Let's hope it doesn't last.

I do think we stand more than a punchers chance, it is closer than the doom mongers predict, but Italy should deservedly be favourites.

I don't think we have seen the best of the England team*, I think there is more in them than Southgate's tactics have allowed, and that probably means it won't change tonight. Italy however I think have been operating at their top level and don't have another gear to go up.

*however I think there is a psychological barrier to get over, and if we can get over the line tonight maybe we can look forward to more expressive football in the future.

I'm expecting a solid England performance but Italy will burst our bubble at some point, probably a fast flowing move on the counter after a patient 637 pass buildup from England.

More than anything, whoever wins I hope its through something creative and skillful rather than an individual mistake.

England to score in the first 5 mins, then 80 mins of terrifying end to end, then Italy score in the 90th minute and again in the first minute of extra time, then England fall to pieces.

Can anyone beat that as a worst case scenario?

Trippier in for Saka apparently, so 3-5-2.

More likely a 3-4-3. This match will largely hinge on 4 players for me. If Shaw and Trippier can resist their natural inclination to drop in line, instead play as wingbacks and if Phillips can neutralise the link between Emerson and Insigne and if Sterling can produce some form, not just run into knots of 3 opponents and look surprised, then England have a very good chance.
All the animals save the bird picked England but I'll defer to the Binners family distaff side.

I had a dream last night, 4-1 to Italy. It wasn't especially a dream about football- me and my brother were canoeing through sewers, mostly. But I figure if you're going to grant a vision of the future in a dream, that's probably how you do it, just sneak it in.

2-0 Italy in normal time. We are better than we used to be (not saying much) but Italy are still a better side.

(I’m thoroughly appalled by the behaviour of some of our fans. You’d almost think they didn’t know the English clubs were banned from Europe once. Yes, I know this is the national team but it ain’t gonna play well anywhere, anyway you slice it…)
