What's everyone looking forward to then? What have you got tickets to? Who's going to end up as Scotland's poster boy/girl of the games?

I'm going to be up to see some [s]Tron[/s] Squash and watch the road races next weekend. Looking forward to it, it's been ages since I've been to Glasgow - and that was for a wedding so didn't get much time in the city.

Womens Triathlon on in the background for me now, brutal as ever but the city's looking great and Lucy Hall's tried (and failed) to time trial off the front of the pack so there's a bit of fight on the bike leg.

Scottish 1-2-3 in the semis of the Mens 200m backstroke. First Games Record too. Not a bad start!

Sweetland and Stimpson stretching things on the run in the tri. This is making me wish I was sat in the park watching rather than waiting around in a stuffy office for meetings to finish.

I'm jealous of the athletics, many finals?

Ahhh... I thought spoilers were implicit in the thread title. If a mod wanted to make it clearer for the hard of thinking... Great effort by Stimpson and Holland. Sadly I missed the end due to having to actually work.

Got tickets for the mountain biking, and badminton quarter finals, and I'll probably take a wander out to see the road race and time trial too.

Has anyone else noticed how immensely strong the England women's road race squad is? Armitstead, Barnes, Garner, King, Pooley, Rowsell and Trott.

Was at the velodrome for this morning's session, was brilliant.

Para-cycling tandem match sprints - insane! So exciting.

Pedalled back to work in the sun afterwards, fantastic atmosphere throughout the city. Be great if the weather kept up.

Off to watch badminton on Saturday, aiming to see some of the marathon on Sunday, will try my utmost to slope off from work on Tuesday for the MTB, TT goes near where I live next Thursday so will be out watching that, then the big RR jamboree next Sunday.

Intae it!

Warmer outside today - not often you can say that!

Last year's national RR on the same course was brilliant because so many roads round the city centre were closed, so me and my eldest just rode round all over, meeting friends and stopping at various places.

St Vincent St (a long uphill drag) was good, the corner of Blythswood Sq, Montrose St (steep climb), Park Circus were all great. Didn't go as far out as Byres road but apparently the atmosphere there going up Great George St was immense. Finish straight at the Green was packed but excellent; however a mate and his family were at the playpark next to the Templeton building just along from the Peoples' Palace and realised that was a great place to be as it was a quiet spot with few barriers and a tight corner so they had some amazing pictures. Definitely planning to head out there at some point during the day.

Well worth watching from multiple places, the men do 13 laps I think.

Oh dear, a second Welsh athlete's been popped for doping violations:

Team Wales 400m hurdler Rhys Williams is out of the Commonwealth Games after being charged with an anti-doping violation.

Stunning ride earlier by Katie Archibald in the 3k pursuit, 3rd fastest in qualifying. She'll be racing for bronze at 4.55 today. Brilliant stuff!

Also a great ride earlier by young Mark Stewart in the 4k pursuit, missed out on finals but fast enough for 11th in qualifying. Excellent young rider with a very bright future.

Got some tickets for the Judo finals tomorrow night. Bit of a flying visit back north as wife is working the weekend and so can't stay for a few pints and reminiscing in a few old haunts 🙁

Should be good and want Euan Burton to clean up after his mixed fortunes in London.
Been pretty good so far.

I've got a ticket for the mountain biking on tuesday and have been watching a lot of the other sports. The Scots performing well in the pool has been great, the boxing's been fun too. Even watched the team triathlon this morning.

There should be more tandem races with 3 or four riders on a bike to make it more interesting.

Yes, I enjoy the tandem racing more than the individual events.

Been watching bits and bobs up to now. Enjoyed the triathlons and swimming so far.

Good to see the locals out supporting the events and I've even been doing my bit to support the games by sitting here stuffing my face with Tunnock's (first packet I've bought in about 10 years) 🙂

Got back at 1 in the morning after leaving at 1 in the afternoon. But fantastic time in Glasgow, great atmosphere in the SECC and saw some great Judo.

Shame Matt Purssey couldn't quite defeat the SA athlete or it would have been a clean sweep of the Golds for the home nations.

Highlight was definitely watching Euan Burton get his a gold and singing Flower of Scotland 3 times for three golds.

Also went to see the Judo last night at the SECC. Had a fantastic night.

Overall impressions from being there, a superb job, well done Glasgow. Everyone was really friendly, everything was well organised and thought out, transport links worked flawlessly, and even the rain held off until we got inside. The SECC was also officially the most secure building in Scotland, as the Gurkhas and Royal Marine Commandos were providing security back up duties. 😯 Nobody dared misbehave.

Highlight of the weekend was watching the confused face of my missus as she tried to translate Glaswegian, when asking directions from a bus driver 😆 😆

Shame we only got the one set of tickets, would've loved to have seen more.

We were sat in the stand and Andy Burns the bronze medalist ( pictured above) came up and sat in front of us to chat to some of his supporters. Got a good look at the medal, looked lovely.

Owen Livesey who won Gold the night before also popped up too.

Great night, looks like you had great seats trailofdestruction.

Agree re organisation, Clydesiders were just as cheery as the Gamesmakers from London ( if a wee bit harder to understand if like my 2 mates I dragged up who had never been to Scotland before).

Drove up as time was tight and parked up where I used to live and walked in. Great atmosphere even in the streets.

I was watching the swimming last night and they had a para event medley in which there was one swimmer with two arms and two legs up against amputees, two of which had only one arm each.

Funnily enough the guy with all the limbs won....easily!

I'm watching the netball (as you do on a quiet Tuesday morning) and the England ladies have what looks like a spine protector or maybe some sort of tracker (or maybe an aerial because they are remote-controlled cyborgs). Anyone know what it is?

Was at the athletics early session yesterday, loved every second. The crowd got behind every competitor. Have to say the organisation was brilliant, everything ran smoothly. Feared the worst as we joined a massive line snaking from Mount Florida train station to Hampden, but it all kept moving forward, even the airport security checks didn't cause a massive bottleneck.

Afterwards we headed to George square and onto the festival in the Merchant city, have to say hats off to Glasgow, I think they have more than pulled this one off.

Great to see them getting the plaudits for it, he seemed a bit taken aback at the fuss. Good job too by the club riders taking the teams out to how them the roads.

Anyone seen a start list for the Road race and TT? Would be interesting to see which big guns are riding. I assume Millar, Dowsett, Thomas, Rowe and Kennaugh are all riding? What about the Australians? Renshaw? Gerrans?

By the way, has anyone noticed that all pool side interviews being conducted by Sharon Davies have been of the back of her head only? I reckon its due to the fact that she has so ****ed up her face, it would put off the viewers!

Met Sharon Davies a while back and she is not very natural looking

anyway

I'd like to see Millar win it

I've no idea why Wiggo is not doing it (yes I heard the interviews, still don't understand it) as he would walk away with it, unless he's been on the vodka tonic for the last month.

By the way, what's the story with Wiggins?

Good to see so many african nations getting involved in the time trial. It's got to be the way to bring more developing nations into road cycling.

Also, Sharon Davies seems to be slowly morphing into one of the evil apes from Congo.

By the way, what's the story with Wiggins?

Once upon a time there was a boy called Bradley. Bradley liked riding his bike and was very good at it. He found that he was the best boy at riding round in circles, even when he didn't practice as much as the other boys!

One day he decided he'd had enough of riding around in circles, so decided to ride up and down big hills instead. He had to practice really hard for a long long time because lots of the other boys were very good at it. After practicing for ages his friends Chris and David helped him to be the best boy at it.

Then he was the most famous and best dressed boy in all of England and even got to meet the Queen!

But Bradley was sad because he never got to see his other friends and have fun any more. Then his friend David told him that he liked Chris the best now, which made Bradley even more sad.

Bradley was so sad he decided to stop riding up and down hills, and go back to riding round in circles again. "That will show David", he thought, and he knew that going round in circles did not need as much practicing.

the end

Alex Dowsett -
"Nobody wanted that more than I did, after the disappointment of not being picked for the Tour de France and the silver in Delhi in 2010.

"I've been angry all this month, ever since I was a kid I have pulled something out of the bag when I have been really angry. It's pretty special that."

Geraint Thomas -
"I was bit unsure what to expect in terms of my fitness. I just felt strong. I didn't felt fresh or zippy as such but felt I could just smash it.

"Before the next time trial I do I'm going to send Alex Dowsett some flowers. Make sure he is happy, and maybe we will have a chat."

Love it!

He looked done in at the end of the Tour. Can't remember where he finished in the last TT, but I think Tuft beat him, who he beat today. Recovered well.

Love the quote above though.
