Do you remember when Kanye West was good?

I remember my pal played me the college dropout, my mind was blown.

A spectacular fall from then on..

Apparently fat arse kardishan has filed for divorce, given the fact Kanye has bi-polar syndrome I hope he’s got folk around him who can exercise restraint on his actions, I have a friend who suffers from bipolar and whilst it has been 95% under control for the previous 15 years he did have a moment of inspiration a few years ago to drive to London with a boot full of petrol to burn down the Houses of Parliament as “they were all liars”, kinda hard to refute his logic on that one but a section 30 order was ultimately sanctioned.

As for his music I’ve never been a fan but he did make one one song I can listen to, that “Jesus walks” ditty.

I think his first few albums were great and will go down as classics, I'm a huge fan of College Dropout and Graduation. He also produced some huge hits for other artists in his early years, some proper genius stuff. I wonder whether he started to believe the hype surrounding him too much and lost touch with reality and the music suffered. I think also his mother kept him grounded which no one else has been able to do since her passing. Seems like another instance of a flawed genius.

I'm not really a fan but I do think the guy's a bona fide genius. Like a lot of successful artists in all fields I think his output suffers from there being nobody to tell him no. The last album of his I really liked was Twisted Fantasy, though tbh I've not really been paying much attention to his stuff since then.

Being successful artist is, to a great extent, knowing when to stop. Its more about what you don't do than what you do. If your success is the result of other people doing that 'no' for you then that success isn't really sustainable.

Maybe I’m old, but this sums up my views pretty well. True genius rarely recognises itself.

I couldn't, I think, disagree more. Proper geniuses never know when to stop, as, in their heads, there are no limits to their genius. Some of their output will be shit, that's for other people to argue about. Proper genius is always on the go.
