[Closed] The best thing about Facebook?

That's one of the things that sickens my piss. Disingenuous wishes from people who wouldn't know other than via a facebook notification. I keep my birthday off it for data protection reasons and the handful of friends who remember my birthday might send me a text which is much more personal.

Anyway, the best thing about Facebook is the islamaphobia, thinly veiled racism, meme's and videos you've seen 2000 times and friend requests from attractive foreign ladies selling viagra and cheap ray-bans.

The thing I enjoy most is posting pics of my dinner so everyone can know I've managed to obtain food today.

I also quite like sharing my ill-informed views on nearly any subject, copying stupid shit that others do with beer mats, ice buckets and cinnamon as well as telling the world when I actually do something to make it look like I'm fulfilled when I haven't actually got anything going on in my life.

Ooo! Ooo! Also gym selfies, broadcasting my new relationship, totally ignoring the totally scientific proof of "the curse of Facebook" and posting pics of my grotty kids like I'm the only one whose got any.

Option 1: You could say it is superficial if you haven't heard from them in years but at the end of the day they didn't ignore the automated notification and took 38 seconds out of thier day to wish you well while they take a dump.

Option 2: You could say the nice thing about it is that the person(s) who wished you well must have been a part of your life at some point. Even if you have parted ways, don't work together anymore,moved away or whatever it's nice that that you get to think about each other for a bit and you both get a smile out of it. Edit: While you both take a dump....

The best thing about facebook is people don't often delete their accounts and use their real names so its good for staying in touch wth people and finding old friends. I also like I can follow companies (e.g. bike companies) I like.

If you're getting racist or vacuous comments on your feed that's not Facebook's issue, that's a lack of quality control on your part over who you 'friend.'

I've had about half a dozen, they've been mtbers so I'm assuming they've tracked me down via my username. YOY would you add someone as a "friend" if you're not actually their friend?!

I've had precisely zero, but I've tried to separate myself from STW and my real name simply because as a Moderator I don't really want disgruntled users (or mentioning no names but ex-users) taking the fight outside.

I have a few STW "followers" on Twitter, but that's less of an issue as my full name isn't exposed there. And my output is mostly stream-of-consciousness and bad jokes anyway. @ukcougar if you're weird enough to enjoy cooking experiments and Pound Shop Tim Vine humour.

I have about 8 "school friends" that have requested to "friend" me. I didn't like them at school 30+ years ago I'm unlikely to do so now.

Deleting my Facebook account was the most liberating thing I've done in years. There is so much joy in being free of it. I felt like Neo.

Facebook is great for business as it's the modern Yellow Pages and I get a lot of work via my Facebook Page but I would happily delete my personal page if I didn't have to have it as admin for my page.

Knowing what someone is doing, eating, feeling, banging is something I'm not interested in.

I like Facebook. There I said it.

The people on my friends list are all people I like to hear from and the banter is always good.

The groups are useful: local cycling groups, local buy/sell/free stuff, Beavers, parent groups for the School, kids sports clubs, etc.

And I follow stuff I'm interested in. Tim Peake's daily posts from ISS have been awe-inspiring. As was following Mark Beaumont across Africa or watching Martyn Ashton get back on wheels.

Sure there are a few downsides and plenty of morons, but overall I like it.

I'm too cool for farcebook. There's only one place to come for an argument (either joining in or observing) or telling stories.

The best bits are being able to keep up with what's going on round the other side of the world.
As for the racist and sexist stuff people get one strike in case they hit the wrong gear button then it's unfriend.

I've done some pretty awesome things in real life that would never have happened without Facebook. There are definitely negative sides to it and it does encourage narcissism IMO but it certainly has its upsides. Seems to be 'cool' to slag it off.

Its Ok, as someone who left the UK 6 years ago I find it a good way to keep up with friends and relatives though Whatsapp is my medium of choice for day to day stuff.
