Dr Teeth and The Electric Mayhem.

Or...
The TAP!

Can there be any other contenders?
The Rutles
Well, that's spoilt my Christmas; I thought they were real...
The shittest is Jackson Maine's ****ry Rock noodling cliched extravaganza.

Imagine I've posted a picture of Pugwall here. Because I've bloody tried! (I miss the preview button)
Silicon Valets
Atomizer +1.
Dingoes Ate My Baby (actually Four Star Mary).

Pankhurst.
Strange Fruit.
Gotta be Dr Teeth. I always thought Tap were good in the film but they were very tedious when they tried to take it out of the film and be a real [joke] band.
So sweary
Hamfatter.
They were fake for the show, right?
CB4
The Archies
Tap are real (to me), even if fictional / spoof origin. Saw them at the Freddie Mercury Tribute concert.
In a similar vein, Bad News.
Here's a twist on it though...
The Heaven Seventeen.
Fictional band in Clockwork Orange which inspired the actual band.
Lovefist!
LOL @ CB4. Stab Master Arson made me s****.
Me and my mate Bungle got fed up the fact that everyone else in the Tap o Lauriston was in a band, so like Art Brut, we formed a band. Never played a note but we got the backstory pretty developed, we were a threepiece with me on bass and vocals, Bungle on hammond and synth, and my mate Martin on drums. Martin was a proper local scene drummer so that gave it some oomf. We actually had CDs that we gave to people (I thought they were blank but it later turned out Bungle had burned The Touch from Transformers The Movie onto every one). I gave one to Chris Sheldon when he was drunk and made him promise to produce our album if he liked it, an offer that I assume still stands
We were called Millstone. We were pretty heavy.
Musically I can't say we're up there with the best imaginary bands but we could have been huge.
Sonic Energy Authority.
Only one contender ..the rest can go home ..
The Nasty Bits ..from the HBO series "Vinyl" which I thought was pretty awesome ( my era ) but the rest of the viewing public did not and it got pulled after one season ( oh you fools ) ..
Anyhoo ..the group although fictional is made up of real musicians and fronted by Mick Jaggers son ..
Here is a clip of them opening for the New York Dolls from the series ..pretty cool methinks ..
The Majestics.
Still water
Songs written by Peter Frampton n Nancy Wilson
THE METAL KINGS!

They’re fake right? They out Tap Spinal Tap
Citizen Dick (Singles), Matt Dillon and Eddie, Stone and Jeff from Pearl Jam.
Manowar 😂😂😂 playing some gigs in U.K. this year and want £90 a ticket. That pays for a lot of rabbit skin and baby oil.

Shwing!
Crucial Taunt.
RM.
the HBO series “Vinyl” which I thought was pretty awesome
It had some really good scenes, episodes even, but as a series it seemed confused about what point it was trying to make. Still, the Nasty Bits were excellent, as was Bobby Cannavale's drug fueled meltdown.
if we're talking about fictional bands that will haunt your ****ing dreams:

Girl you know it's true... Wa ooh wa...ooh, ooh, ooo-ooh I love you...

The Killers, before Brandon Flowers borrowed the name.
Flame
If you're looking for a band in actual fiction (as in the book variety) you could do worse than the RockAteers from The Rock n Roll Diaries by Jamie Scallion.
I've always reckoned that there's a great opportunity for a TV series in those books, and Jamie's even produced the accompanying music to go with it, one 4 track EP for each book.
I had a bit of a crush on Leather Tuscadero back in the day.

I really liked that series, it was a bit confused at times, but if I had to put my finger on a real negative point it was Mick's Son, I think he was supposed to be a Johnny Ramone, but ended up more a Donny Tourette.
The Deuce is quiet similar in ways.
Randy Watson and Sexual Chocolate
I loved the first Urge for Offal EP, despite the review it got from Geoff Dreadnaught.
Also a fan of Future Doom, Curry Night, TBA, Pankhurst, Harsh, Evil Gazebo, ELP, PFM, the Identical Cocteau Twins and I Can't Believe It's Not Focus.
Billy Parker was a bit shite. And yes, I had to google this.
The Rutles
What he said ^ by a country mile, in all departments.
Does Chef count or is that just a comedy song?
First heard this on the radio while driving on a motorway. Nearly crashed when I worked out what was going on
edit: ok, that's 4 attempts at embedding a video. No idea why it doesn't work today. Have to look up the instructions again
Sex Babomb?
Or, Party on Wanye, Party on Garth...Crucial Taunt...schwing
(White) Ammunition...
Kurupt FM innit.
This been dun yet? She was just "singer" but was pretty cool in the context of the programme.
But honestly, there isn't one single band* on here you'd, well, I would, listen to outside of the film or programme. They're all crap really 😀
*oops! Except Gorillaz or The Monkees, but they rit songs and dun real releases didn't they

Les Alanos
Either Lo/Rez, or Chrome Koran (possibly)
I think we need to define what fictional means.
or
Looking at the suggestions I reckon it's a toss up between Disaster Area and Fur Q. The former had a great PA and pyrotechnics, but Fur Q did the best MTV videos.
Frozen Gold.
Monkees were a concocted band, not a fictional band, most of their early songs written by the likes of Neil Dianond. Of course Mike Nesmith is an outstanding songwriter in his own right, and they made a film called Head, with a lot of really scathing comments on the music industry. It was the last thing The Monkees would record for many years.
Another made-up band I’ve just thought of is Josie and the Pussycats.
Dingoes Ate My Baby (actually Four Star Mary).
Great band, saw them play the Fleece in Bristol a couple of times, still wear the tee shirts!
from rip off press - Gilbert Sheltons comic strip band = Not Quite Dead
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Not_Quite_Dead
After watching the brilliant BBC documentary, Bros have got to be up there. I mean, there's no way them two are actually real people, some of the sh!t they come out with!
"After listening to Stevie wonder, I decided never to be superstitious"
"...... Luckily there were bubbles"
"I'm a rectangle, he's a rectangle and together we make a square"
The Clash at Demonhead
No NWH yet?
The Grams or Frozen Gold
DezB

"The Commitments"
I like the soundtrack, so it gets played. 🙂
The Banana Splits
Dethklok gets my vote
Justified Ancients of Mu Mu?
Peela Tater
Baby Bloke
The Charley Twins
Dick Cave and the Bad Cheese
Doofergrass
Edwin Bobbins
Flush
Moronico
Cheeper
The Ra-Gromes
Alladin-ane
Frank Spencer Blues Explosion
Po-Fasis
and the Shirehorses.
Fur Q did the best MTV videos
videos? There was only one, surely?
Well we only saw one, but who knows?
Some awesome ones already chosen by others - CB4, Sexual Chocolate, The Rutles and The Commitments.
I think in my book Northwind has to win, perhaps biased, because I too had a fictional band. Alas, no CD’s were ever made and in our day they would have been C60’s anyway.
Me and my mate Pete fronted a white dub outfit - ’Raggapenas’. We were the frontmen and brothers Desmond and Derek Raggapenas. Our band was a modern parody of our hometowns UB40. Our fictional output was covers of 80’s pop classics in a ‘dub stylee’ - bringing the music back home to it’s roots...
Totally in questionable taste - but the idea entertained us.
codybrennan
Either Lo/Rez, or Chrome Koran (possibly)
is a fine call
