Now I'm thoroughly and utterly bored of brexit like most folk but I've increasingly been hearing these ads on the radio and last night saw the one on the telly.
One thing it mentioned is make sure your passport is ok for european travel? Apologies for my lack of knowledge here but what is and isnt ok? I've got a passport with 8 years left on it, is that ok?

What I enjoy most about them is how vague everything is. ‘There will be changes’ (no detail about what those changes will be).

I like the ones on the motorway even better - there ‘may’ be changes! Then again the moon ‘may’ be made of cheese...****wits...

Yes that is fine. You possibly need around 15 months left on your passport.

Or you may do, all depends what happens by Oct 31st, if anything.

I only ask as we go away the weekend before and I don't want any grief when landing in sunny Spain.

Make sure you don’t get too much of a tan, might lead to problems getting back in...

Vague = Tory policy, and as we know any policy promised fails to materialise.

🤷‍♂️

They are expensive taxpayer funded Tory propaganda

To view them as anything other than that is pointless

@kimbers … Yup, trying to link Brexit to an arbitrary date in our minds, rather than being concerned about the outcome. Anyone else used the website? It told me to relocate myself and my clients to an EU country. Passport info was better though… was a simple “6 months should be okay” message… but it won’t be under the UK’s control in any way in the event of No Deal, so they have to be vague. Oh, and get insurance… lots of it.

@Dezb … don’t click, don’t read.

While at the servcices the other day on the way down to the Channel Tunnel, there was a booth set up with some poor soul offering to give advice on being Brexit ready. She looked miserable and no one was interested. I did imagine she would have been asked a thousand questions, all of which she would not have known the answer to as there is no answer.

Probably she just handed out a leafet pointing you to the online pointless site.

Has anyone checked to see if we will need an international driving licence to drive our own cars in the EU, or even hire one ?

(I would have asked her that question but couldnt bring myself to engage without risk of moaning about it all)

Presumably under no-deal Brexit we'll need a visa for each European country we want to visit.

The problem with the adverts, motorway signs, etc, giving out advice is that from the top down, no-one has a clue.

Standard advice/requirement is that your passport should be valid for a period of six months after the last date you expect to be in whichever country you are visiting. I'm not aware of any country mandating more than that.

Driving licence: I've seen an article about France (might have been the whole EU) stating that post brexit you will need an international driving licence but how soon that will apply I'm not sure.

Its pure propaganda paid for by the taxpayer. Utterly disgusting and I bet if you dig the companies making and distributing the adverts are tory donors

Well, I believe technically we would be unable to operate any Aircraft or Ships anyway, so it's a bit of a moot point.

I had a feeling that I would need an international driving license for driving on the continent, so I swapped out my license for a local one. Now I can drive all over the place on the Swedish one.

My biggest concern right now is the lack of guidance on whether I can continue working in what is now my home country and residence. My rights _were_ guaranteed as long as there was some level of reciprocity, but after Priti Patel's comments, I'm no longer sure what will happen.

Yep, it's another roll of the dice by Johnson. He's told everyone in the UK that we're leaving at the end of Oct.

It's designed to reassure Leavers that we'll be out soon, and dent the resolve of Remainers as we might as well give up, it's all over now.

He won't see it as gambling £100m because he doesn't care about that, it's another couple of days of increased national debt, no the gamble is it's another 'double down' as the Yanks say on his deadline, he knows his chances of securing a GE win go through the floor when we don't leave on the 31st, doubly so because he spent £100m telling every Man, Women and Child in the UK we're going, the ads are really odd, the only definitive thing they say is that we WILL be leaving on the 31st of Oct, and things will chance, but we don't know what. Really if they were informative they would say, or at least be changed to "we may be leaving"... but they haven't.

I honestly think, in years to come some very senior people in the public eye will end up in prison for things they're doing right now.

possibly three different permits depending upon where you're going to / from

The whole thing is a propaganda exercise in making it look like they know what they're doing.

Has anyone actually been on the website? Its complete and utter nonsense. There's no actual information to be had because there is no information. The answer to any question is 'erm..... dunno'

Its the usual level of competence you'd expect from a government IT project too. A mate was looking for advice on how Brexit might affect his business. He specified his was an IT business, it directed him to the section on food hygiene standards

The whole thing is all just vague bullshit to be added to the ever lengthening list 'stupid stuff that Boris has done that cost the taxpayer millions'

It's not there actually to inform the public. It's there as some kind of arse-covering so they can point at it as evidence of action when the shit hits the fan.

And still will be after Brexit, for some awful reason. Why won't the EU let us join another continent?

My biggest concern right now is the lack of guidance

That’s the Tory’s for you.

No guidance, no plans, no balls, no intelligence, no idea.

Just same old infighting and bullshit and backhanded deals and cronyism.

🤣🤷‍♂️

Well we have been trapped in the plate tectonic process by the EU, so after 31st Oct we will drift back to be part of the Pangea Economic Union.

I imagine we will have actually rejoined Pangea before this lot sort out any new trade deals.

My passport is out of date, does that mean I go into the internment camps?

I think you/your mate missed the point of the website.

"Prepare for brexit", they say. We- as in, the university I work for- say, "OK, what's brexit going to look like?", they say, "we don't know", we say "how do we prepare for that then?" and they say look, the goodyear blimp!
