It is get a bit annoying. It never used to be this bad, it's taking 5-10seconds a page. No issues with my broadband, or other sites with google ads.

Is it a conspiracy to make me upgrade to premier? Or something odd with Chrome and this particular site.

Keep seeing "waiting for xxxx" down in the bottom left

(where XXXX isn't a porn site, but something dreary like .switchhub or cimeno.com)

I actually don't mind the ads, occasionally something interesting pops up and I go take a browse (like tigersheds...)

It's the slowness that is hacking me off, and I'm sure it has only recently started being a problem.

Its the multiple animated ads, right now ive got 3 (3 ffs!) vodafone adds down the right hand side. Add on the croatia one and all the little scrolling ones and its no surprise it takes so long.

I always view on my phone, and I don't have any issues with ads slowing things down, other than the usual latency when typing, but as the ads aren't Flash they don't mess up my browser. Maybe on a desktop browser they still run as Flash?

chrome really doesn't like the adverts.

tbh I think chrome has really gone down the pan lately as it seems to hog memory.

Don't have any problems with Firefox. Uses sod-all memory and doesn't take long to load any page!

You could of course actually pay to use the site and not get so many ads?

Well, I'm not calling anyone names or actually bothered by ads, its the speed of the site that is the problem.

Anyway, a little test for some reason incognito mode in chrome is alot quicker (3-4 seconds). Very odd. Still 9 ads none are animated though... maybe luck

FWIW, I occasionally see the "waiting for Facebook" message at the bottom of the screen. That's used by the wee widget over at the RHS. Of course that also shows my "Friends" who also "like" STW in Facebook and it's dynamically generated. That means it can't be cached...

I feel so sorry for what you receive from here for nothing

perhaps those of us who pay should pay more so you get even better free access?

Hi All,
I'm looking into this to see what can be done to speed delivery of pages. I'm regularly making changes to the site and ad-delivery with the aim of improving performance. Occasionally there will be issues.

For the record - there is no conspiracy to force Premier. However, we do need to deliver ads to pay for the users who are not Premier.

I make every effort to ensure pages are delivered as quickly and painlessly as possibly. If there are issues, let me know and I'll look into them. Feel free to (politely) raise them on this forum or even better email me directly at patrick@singletrackworld.com

Email is better for me as I'm not usually watching Forum topics.

Facebook widget issue noted - I'm looking at caching options now. I'll have to do a bit of dev and testing but it's on my list.

Just logged out to see how fast/slow the site is with Chrome and it's still fine. Must be your computer 😉

Takes me about 1 second to load the whole page over 3G on my mobile, including all flash ads. I'd think there's something wrong at your end DT

Yeah, but they're keeping the site here in the first place.
😉

We all know. Its always going to be a fine line between keeping and attracting websters and driving them away.

There's one I get that's particularly annoying: http://www.aldaniti.net/wingames/regalos_apple/index.php - bloody stupid animated ad that plays music, ideal for those quiet moments in the office...
