From what you can see it’s the best looking SUV. Admittedly there’s not much to choose from
That's fugly but they'll sell loads to footballers, retired captains of industry with dogs to walk etc. etc.
So - its a rebadged AMG GLC 43 then?
It's been nice knowing you...
I've always considered the Astons to be the "Audrey Hepburn" of the automotive world (apart from the aberrations that were the DBS and AM Lagona), but I fear they are losing their way. The current Vantage is dreadful.
🤮
And pointless.
Glad to see Aston chasing its tail in market share..
All those Urus/Levante/Bentega owners have another vehicle they can look down upon.
I can't tell too much given the disruptive pattern.
Does a good looking modern SUV exist?
The new Superleggera is stunning
cycnic-al

The new Suzuki Jimny. It's really a proper 4x4, but it will be bought largely by the SUV market.
It looks like they have styled it on a ford focus!

The red edging highlights the only real Aston part of that car. I agree with Houns that the DBS superleggera is more the ticket.

The new G Series is nice too, looks like a big Jimny with nicer paint.
All SUVs just look like rollerskates to me and they seem to serve no purpose over normal cars other than to be taller and bigger on the outside.
a fool and their money....
I think it looks alright
It looks like an SUV with a saloon boot in the top photo (but not in the render Drac posted later)?

Higher driving position
Easier to get in and out if you have limited mobility as the seat is higher when you open the door
Bigger on the inside too (at least the ones I’ve had have been)
Flatter floor in the back seats makes it much more comfortable for the third child to sit in the middle.
A proper 4x4 system with decent ground clearance for when I go on to shitty building sites. Bonus when it snows.
An extra two seats in the boot.
Other than that, no purpose at all.
It is the recent trend for SUV hatchbacks that make the most fugly cars IMO, they look much better with a more traditional roofline rather than it sloping down to the rear.
I have no opinion on the shape of the car, but I do like the paint job.

The new Jimny looks ace! Shame it can't tow or I'd be straight down the Suzuki dealers.
We need more proper basic workhorse 4x4s - not lifestyle SUVs.

Not as bad as the new land Rover Defender

Another view.
I'm not sure of it but not what I'd expect from Aston Martin.

@hedley - the LR Defender is a workhorse machine designed to so some work
The Aston DB penetrator or whatever it's called is designed to take dollars from rich idiots with no taste longing for cachet
Ah, if you could turn back the clock a decade you’d read about how ugly the Porsche 4X4 was and how it was the end of days and all that, then they sold more of them than any other model and almost bought VW they were so rich.
I doubt there are many potential DBX buyers on STW, but they’ll sell, I mean the Bentley thing is offensively ugly, but people buy ‘em.
Higher driving position
- so you can look down on people?
Easier to get in and out if you have limited mobility as the seat is higher when you open the door
- for the 1% of people with limited mobility
Bigger on the inside too (at least the ones I’ve had have been)

- not normal ones, maybe the Q7 type uber-SUVs
My entire opinion is based on experience of the Vauxhall Mokka.
The Aston Deep Throat penetrator
FIFM
If you want Aston to survive, you need to accept this as a necessary evil.
As above, the Cayenne pretty much saved Porsche. If you want to be a premium car manufacturer and survive, you need an SUV in your range.
And it's not a GLC, it's very different underneath. The infotainment is pretty much identical, and The engines are obviously of the same core, but they feel very different in use. AMs version of the v8 is a wonderful thing.
Meh - where’s the McLaren SUV then?
Lambos’ R US

My entire opinion is based on experience of the Vauxhall Mokka
There’s your problem right there.
Not really the definitive SUV experience is it?
More of a Fat Corsa with a Hat On experience. ... or, as the car industry prefers to call it, a crossover
Has anyone done a study on the number of injuries old people have suffered getting out of these types of car?
is there a worse example of brand dilution than Aston with this abomination (and that Toyota thing)?
is there a worse example of brand dilution than Aston with this abomination (and that Toyota thing)?
Mini Countryman Cooper S D?
Mustang Ecoboost?
Porsche Cayenne?
No, you're right, I can't see why any brand would adapt to the market, they obviously aren't profitable...
McLaren Speedtail - looks to me like a Toyota Prius that has been stretched a bit at the back. Can't get my head around how ugly McLarens are in the flesh.
That Astons grill is pretty close to being from a Mondeo!
You want brand dilution? MG maestro anybody ?
All SUVs just look like rollerskates to me and they seem to serve no purpose over normal cars other than to be taller and bigger on the outside.
a fool and their money….
Quite the contrary, there are very good reasons why SUVs and crossovers are increasingly popular, to the extent that Ford USA are ceasing production of regular saloon cars, and which is clearly lost on you. It’s not, however, lost on me, I have to get in and out of several dozen cars a day, all makes and models, previously I was driving said cars up to a couple of hundred miles a day, now a fraction of that, but one fact remains, it’s far, far easier to get in and out of an SUV/crossover with its higher seating position than it is a saloon, when you get older. This, I’m absolutely certain, you will discover for yourself when you get to my age and find yourself with damaged joints through mountain biking accidents.
That Astons grill is pretty close to being from a Mondeo!
I think you mean that Ford grill design looks like Aston Martin’s, who have been using that basic shape since the 60’s, unlike Ford, who’ve only been using it for less than a decade.

I thought that, it's difficult to pass judgement until I see one in the flesh. I like the lambo, plus it annoys everyone who thinks they should stick to making fast cars then moan when they go under. The bentleys also not to bad, it's just the continental is such a looker it's never gonna be at that level. Never been a fan of the SUV Porsche and the RR looks as blocky as that jimney above. To be honest I think it's astons sports cars that look a bit over designed at the moment.
Out of interest is it because you can't afford one so you sneer at it? I own a fiesta before anyone starts.
"Out of interest is it because you can’t afford one so you sneer at it?"
I never understand this thinking. SUV's and crossovers are often hideous - this uglyness is shown in even sharper relief when they come from a stable that produced some of the worlds most beautiful cars. Hence many people (myself included) will look at a DB6 or a 911 and think wow that's nice - I could probably see myself buying one of those if I won the lottery etc etc. When I see someone with one, like I did today at a clients house I thought mmmn I like that. Its probably the epitome of what a sports car should look like and the engineering is all to a purpose. He also had an SQ7. Thats just a round peg expensively engineered to fit in a square hole. No sneering here, its just pointless. At no point would I ever even dream of buying one - why would you?
That Astons grill is pretty close to being from a Mondeo!
Pretty sure there was a post/article around somewhere from an Aston designer calling Ford out for stealing the Aston styling.
Just sayin’.....

@perchy - is that your SUV?
😋

it's not lost on me, I just don't like it 🙂
Those Aston IQ’s are becoming collectors cars, go search for one they are really blooming expensive..
£30k for a 20000 mile 13 plate..
