...I expect when the new Forth crossing is opened there will be a bit of a celebration too - maybe another royal appearance - would you really rather it just opened one day and no one mentioned it?
I don't understand why anyone would GAF about "opening" it. Give a party for the people involved, fair enough, but just remove the barricades and let the traffic commence.
That's probably what will happen. Then a week or so later, they'll cause disruption to its normal use while Liz cuts a ribbon.
Quite why the wielder of the scissors needs to have come out of a specific vagina, I'm not sure.
Compared with Boris I reckon The Queen's been good value for money of late
Though Boris hasn't recently purchased an expensive coach, despite already owning several.
Whatever you think of her, she puts on a damn fine fireworks display to keep the plebs entertained.

Wow, that sounds really dull.
Nothing to celebrate. No fireworks. Don't mark the historic occasion in any way. Just move on to your next assigned task like good little drone ants. 🙁

Hmm...

for illustrative purposes only...
She is a walking cloud of fog.
That's just the amount of farts she does.
Cos the queen actually has bombs dropped on her own initiative.. Of course

If we are going to mark the historic occasion then the people we should be honouring are those who designed and worked on it, and one of them should open it, not some sycophantically adored royal parasite.
Or a Scottie dog should do it because they're totes cute
There may be a position somewhere between not marking the opening at all and maintaining an expensive system of inherited power and wealth?
We had a royal visitor, who came to see some students taking part in an exercise making hovercraft. His visit was a bit of a pain, because places got repainted, he had to have a designated toilet set aside (with nice loo roll), there were security checks beforehand, etc.
I suspect the royal visitor was bored shitless, and the students didn't really benefit from his visit. A visit from someone from Scrapheap Challenge, or the Discovery Channel, or Guy Martin would have been much better for all involved.
Mike, the obvious thing would be to raise this next time someone wants some special visit and ask if Guy Martin or Dick Strawbridge could be asked instead.
The trouble is, minor royalty are easy to spot in the papers and get good status. You pick a niche celeb and the nice fans will be happy, but the rest of the population just get a bit meh.
Personally, I can't for the life of me understand why Michael Portillo wasn't chosen to open the borders railway! 😆 **** does the queen know about railways anyhow?

The visit wasn't initiated by us - it was a town visit* - but the date chosen happened to coincide with a bunch of partner school pupils in for an engineering challenge, and that linked with some of the other visits he was making. We already had relevant guests as it was a university engineering department running the day.
*fitted into his busy schedule of flogging arms to dubious regimes and hanging around with convicted sex offenders.
