I'm off to Thailand with my girlfriend for my 40th in April
Going to Bankgkok, Koh Lanta, Phi Phi, back to Krabi then back to Bangkok, we are there about 16 days in total.

About the only things we have planned are the temples and markets in Bangkok, maybe a diving course and a thai cookery class.

Any other tips on things to do would be appreciated

From Krabi you can do a few sea kayak trips. The best we did was at Thalen bay. At low tide you can visit the sand flats that are a carpet of crabs, at high tide you can go through the narrow channels in the mangroves. Both are good, high tide is probably the best. We just rented a kayak and followed the map but you can do it guided too. While you over that way pop into Tha Pom. Really pretty. There are also some stunning caves in the area. Our favourite was Toh Luang Cave (IIRC), set over three levels with amazing views and full of bats. James Bond island is fun, too, as a day trip. Also take a drive or taxi ride along the main road in Krabi to look at the traffic lights, no really, you won't be disappointed.

I was a bit under whelmed with Koh Lanta. The bit we went to was quite developed and touristy. Lots of bars and eateries but to not to my tastes. We didn't stay long so there might be better bits. Nice beach.

Phi Phi is nice. Much improved since the Tsunami as development has been limited. You can visit 'The Beach' from here which is nice but but fairly full once the day boats arrive, go early or late.

I think our favourite Bangkok temple was The Golden Mount (Wat Saket). It seems less visited and has nice views across the city.

Do the kayaking in Krabi it's fantastic, better with a guide, it was just us in one kayack and the guide in another. We stopped inside a huge rock chimney at one point and the guide got out homemade snacks from his mum. One of the best holiday experiences we've had.

How long are you planning on being on Phi Phi for?
Personally I'd say to get the most out of it you need at least 2 or 3 nights, as on a full day tour you will see a lot more than you do on the half days
Half day you only see Phi Phi Leh which is where Maya Bay is (where they filmed The Beach)
Full day you go around Phi Phi Don and visit Bamboo Island (very nice) as well as Phi Phi Leh and see the sunset
Both trips are available in Longtails, larger cruisers, and speedboats

If you're into you partying head to Koh Phangan for the full moon party (when there's a full moon obv.) 50,000 people or something rediculous like that, on one beach,
And if you're not, everywhere else is pretty quiet when this is happening

I've been living and working in a guesthouse on PhiPhi for 2 weeks now and I love it 🙂

Bangkok is the greatest city in the world, it's just stunning. Go to Lumphini Park for a stroll, visit some local markets, as mentioned Golden Mount is great, so is the Marble Temple. If you're there on a Sunday, get the sky train to Chatachuk, now there's an experience. Go an eat in the top(ish) floor of the MBK mall where the locals eat, Pad Thai for 20baht its fab....

Have fun.

Get the river boats/buses in BKK very chilled out way to travel. National kick boxing stadium is entertaining for the crowd.

its true, I've seen her! amazing 😯

in Bangkok, go to the Thai boxing ring to watch a match. Don't bother with the tourist seats, you get splashed with sweat! the cheap seats is where the fun is. Get a Tuk Tuk there.

Thanks for the tips, we are on PhiPhi for 3 nights at the moment.

We might hire scooters on Koh Lanta, is this a good or bad idea?

Agreed, I had no idea what to eat so followed a guy around and copied everything he had, it worked out great.

Scooters on Koh Lanta are a good idea, the roads are a little more chilled and its very nice to have the freedom to explore.

I was on Koh Lanta in the off season and still loved it, after 5 weeks of excess on Samui/phangan/phiphi a little quiet time was much appreciated!

Enjoy it, Im jealous.
