....there was never going to be a future for the coalmining industry.

😀

"Coal has been the main beneficiary, with a 29% share in 2008, up from 24% a decade ago. Worldwide coal consumption in 2008 was 3.1% higher than in the previous year."

http://energy.pressandjournal.co.uk/Article.aspx/1278979?UserKey=

.

"The UK consumed 58.2 million tonnes of coal in 2008, including 47.8 million tonnes in power stations.

Coal imports to the UK were 43.9 million tonnes, a slight increase (+1.2%) on the previous year's amount.

Almost a third of the UK's electricity was produced from coal"

let's not forget someone's cat died last week. very upsetting.

Let's see you lefties try to blame THAT one on Thatch.
And when the time finally comes, I wouldn't advocate dancing on her grave either. A withered, bejewelled hand might just burst out of the ground and grab you by the leg.

It never ceases to amaze me how some people can bang on about how Thatcher saved the nation, changed the country, put the 'Great' back in Britain, etc etc, and then..........wait for it .............and then.... deny that she is actually responsible for anything !!!

LOL ! 😀

Just remember folks - she has dementia now - which is a horrible way to die. Your brain turns to mush, you loose control of your bladder and bowels and eventually you did - a slow death taking years.

No need to tell the Swedes how much coal the UK has burnt over the years...most of their lakes are lifeless as a result. Good old coal industry!

Good old coal industry!

Coal industry, what coal industry ?

Do you mean the coal industries in Russia, Poland, and Australia ?

Because 70% of coal used in Britain today, is now imported - mainly from those 3 countries.

Yes that's 70 percent...... despite the fact that Britain has known coal reserves to provide us with 100 percent of all our needs, for several hundred years.

I wonder who's bright idea that was ?

Those Swedes are so tolerant. They need a Thatcher figure to shame us into cleaning up our filthy coal-burning habit.

MisterCrud - what has Britain importing coal from Russia, Poland, and Australia, despite having known coal reserves which could provide 100 percent of our needs for several hundred years, got do with the Swedes been "tolerant" ?

Are you suggesting that if the Swedes were less tolerant, we would be using our own coal and not importing
any ?

WTF are you talking about ?

Click on the link ernie....we have rendered their lakes lifeless with our addiction to coal.

Nobody has the answer to green power sources, but surely coal cannot continue to be burnt forever?
We've got away from Thatch a bit here.
Right, I'm going to have my tea.....

Click on the link ernie

Yeah I have, and it's the same link which you keep repeating. But no matter how many times I click on it, I can't figure out how importing 70% of our coal, is good for fighting acid rain in Sweden 😕

I am sure they made a way of compressing all the acid and effects
But dont think they actually made a power station but am sure they made a scale working model some many years back.
