Having a clear out and just stumbled across a brand new Ipod 6th gen. I am pretty sure it was a warranty replacement and for one reason or another I never used it.

Are they any good? I'll need a new lead to power it up I think, but of course these days I can't rip my cd's on a laptop. Guess I could get  CD drive? Or just download music I guess although I don't really wan't to buy everything I have already. Maybe I just flog it although they must be worth buttons nowadays

WWSTWD?

My wife got one of those as a warranty replacement for a Nano 2 which had an issue with the battery iirc.

I used it for a bit with the NHS Couch to 5k recordings but have not seen it for years.

Not sure I could be bothered with the faff of using it nowadays in the era of streaming but maybe useful if you have a similar exercise use case.

They’re still pretty popular. I’ve got 2 of them - really great little players for using running and riding… brand new you could get upwards of £60 for it on ebay.

Funny, cos I find ipods a lot less faff than stream and bluetooth.

If you don’t use ITunes, check an app called CopyTrans Manager. You can just drag & drop mp3s to ipods with it (it’s free).

Thanks!

looking a bit more tempting to get the nano working. I have an old laptop I can fire up to rip cd's on, although I guess a new drive would be quicker?

New drive in the laptop? If youre prepared to go for a SSD drive, yep, would be quicker 🙂

oops my bad I meant a new external cd drive!

Main laptop is SSD, old laptop is HD with a cd drive, probably slower than a new external drive though

I tend to agree, I’ve got lots of music downloads from Apple Music on my phone, getting on for 40,000 or so, but for whatever reason some are just tracks put into the library, and not actually downloaded, and I can always tell which ones because they’ll start playing ok, but after about halfway through they’ll start skipping then just stop, because there just isn’t the bandwidth to allow music to stream properly. And I don’t live in the arse-end of nowhere either! Bluetooth also has a habit of pausing then carrying on playing, and it’s not just one pair of headphones, I’ve got three sets - a pair of over-ear ‘phones, a pair of tiny pod-type and a pair of IEM’s with a BT adapter that goes in place of the cables, and they all suffer drop-outs. Little wonder there’s a ‘thing’ for wearing the original wired EarPods at the moment, they’re really cheap, and don’t require charging every three or four hours!

Speed limitation will be from the laptop to the ipod (when syncing), or the CD drive (when ripping) so I don't think a new drive will make a hell of a lot of difference. Useful for storing the music files though.
