Just setting up Paap D's tablet.

Want to know know whether he can share pics/links whatever via messaging, instead of e-mail?

He doesn't have an android phone to piggy back on, but stuggling to find an app that will let him use the wifi connection to send a text, obviously using some werid pseudo-number I assume?

Also, suggestions for any easy to use apps a 67 yr old may find amusing?

Ta, Rich

Doesn't whatsapp depend on all parties using whatsapp?

Basically, he'll just be texting me and a few family members, so needs to be a standalone app or webservice - part of the purpose of the tab is to drag him into the world of apps/andoid etc for when he gets a touchscreen phone there will be a level of familiarity, and then he will be able to share by text.

I remember MANY years back that I could send texts from my PC, so just looking for something like that basically, if it comes in a 'User Experience' friendly app then that's a bonus.

Try TextNow or TextFree, they look like they do what you want.

Or maybe google voice, you can txt through that

Whatsapp won't work on a wi-fi tablet.

In hindsight I'm not sure google voice is fully supported with all features in the UK. Maybe need to spoof through a US proxy to set up as a US user. Again just offering suggestions, not something I've had need to do, used tethered texting through phone or whatsapp (but that does require all users to use the app and doesn't intehrate with 'normal' texting)

To get round the play store I tried side loading whatsapp to my Nexus 7 using the apk. It installed but won't run, says not compatible with tablets.
