I'm looking to tether my laptop to my phone with 3 and do away with my broadband - has anyone done this and is it as easy as it sounds?

Dunno which phone you're on, but I use EasyTether's software to tether my Motorola Defy to my PC.
It works very easily with my iPhone 4 and MacBook
Not an option for me to drop my broadband though - as 3G reception at home is patchy at best for me
I used to use JoikuSpot on my Nokia - creates a mini WLAN, which can be less hassle and more versatile than a straight tether.
EDIT - to answer the question, it's easy but I game a bit and like a snappy connection so I still have my ADSL. Also have a mini farm of devices to keep patched etc. so a 3G data contract might get overwhelmed.
Do this all the time with a Nokia and it's easy. I get about 1-2meg speed.
on my Desire you can just turn on your wifi hotspot, jobs a goodun.
