Is there anything i'm missing from FTP addresses? I have a device which makes USB items avalible on a network. Only I'm trying to upload things to it via FTP.
the FTP address is 192.168.0.1 directly or 192.168.1.103 through my MIFI device.
Only the FTP server cannot connect? i'm not missing anything in the address, it has no password and the log in name is 'anonymous'

have you tried pinging it to see if there's a path to it?

you might also need to add the port number at the end of the IP. normally 21 so 192.168.0.1:21

Try telnet rather than ping. What client are you using?

The device is one of these http://www.hypershop.com/HyperDrive/iUSBport/
The connected USB device is going to use port 21.
I want to connect it to a pair of WIFI cards FTP send function so they automatically upload what I want during games.

What is the device IP address/subnet/default router?
FWIW 192.168.0.1 looks more like a router address than a device address

What are you using to access the FTP server? PC/iPhone/Android
Which FTP client are you using?
Have you connected the iUSBPort to your network? (I would think: yes, IP 192.168.1.103)

I would test it using a PC and telnet. go to command prompt and type
telnet 192.168.1.103 21

IF you get "could not open connection..." then either the IP address is wrong or it is not connected to your LAN.

You don't get no thing if you don't get that PING

<assuming no ICMP blackholing or other firewall shenanigans>

IF you get "could not open connection..." then either the IP address is wrong or it is not connected to your LAN.

..or it isn't running a telnet daemon/service.
PING/tracert are your starters here

Ok i will try that later, the laptop is docked to the work system and the poor thing gets confused when it connects to 2 things at once. i can connect to it directly using the 168.0.1 IP and it gives me access to the folder of the USB port. I can connect to it via the Mifi box which gives me the 168.1.103 address. i will try the ping test.
thanks all for your help.

Wow it passed the first test when connected directly. FTP straight to the box when I connect to it directly to it's internal WIFI. Now how do I get into the ftp address through the Wifi/mifi box?

It looks to me like you have 2 seperate networks, 1 from your internet router and 1 from your mifi with different network addresses, this is to be expected.
i doubt that you can have the wireless usb device active on both networks at the same time, you would need to disconect and reconnect to the other network, even if wireless.
168.0.1 also sounds like a router address not the actual host address of the usb device, unless the usb device also acts as a router..

^^ The HyperDrive device he is using broadcasts its own wireless network, that is when the device has the IP 192.168.0.1

mikey, since it works when you connect to the hyperdrive wifi,

1) Disconnect your laptop from the HyperDrive wifi.
2) Connect your laptop to your Mifi
3) Connect the HyperDrive to the Mifi
4) From the laptop, ping 192.168.1.103 (Assuming that is the address the hyperdrive is given when it is connected).
5) If that works, then try with your laptop FTP client.

broadcasts its own wireless network.. what evil network trickery is this.. that would explain some of the confusion on this thread.

Sorry for the confusion, Ive googled what I'm trying to do without success.
The Iusb box broadcasts it's own wifi signal which you can join. or it can join in infrastructure mode but i'm not concerned about this.
Ive sent it stuff from my iPhone via ftp and it works. Hooray it worked on the 192.168.0.1 address.

My eyefi cards are wireless enabled SD cards and have an FTP setting on them. However its proving tricky to get them to see the IUSB box or get the box to recognise them hence the Mifi box as both a hub and internet access box.

Confused, yeah me too!

What would be the ip address of the iUSB box from the others side of the Mifi device?
And will the Eyefi let me connect to it?

Ok Ive connected to it directly via it's own WIfi network and pinged it on 192.168.0.1 and 100% success.
I pinged it again while connected on 192.168.0.103 and it failed 100% loss.

Oh cripes I've joined the midi and the iusb port box together and browsing through it I've discovered the new IP address is 192.168.1.100 but still can't fine the ftp address to work. Pinged the address and it worked! 5.94 m/s average.
But how do I make this an ftp address?
More a blog than a forum, can't be the first to try this crap!
