Riding through traffic are up behind a Tesla and it looked liked a backgammon board on the central console. Can you really play backgammon in a moving car?????

Assuming the car has had a software update since 2021, then it should only allow play if the car is in Park. Before that it simply put up a button marked “Are you a passenger?” on the screen. Because Tesla.

Bloody hell! lol!

Does it still display a part played game on screen though?... what if you are playing chess as driver but leave it on screen so you can concentrate on your next move rather than concentrate on driving?

What could possibly go wrong?

Well it can drive itself so no reason why you can’t play a game

No. It has to be in park.

Was it Milton Keynes? Could be a regen graph for a heavy footed driver.

Legally, on a UK road? not sure about that.

All I know is the car was moving slowly and the central console appeared to be displaying a backgammon board, I had wondered if there might be a wall paper, graphic equaliser or something that might have looked the same.

The idea of being able to have board games whilst driving! and people complain about touching phones etc.

It's potentially very unsafe even whilst not playing backgammon

I don’t think you can get a backgammon app for Tesla. Mine certainly doesn’t have it and there’s no way to use the screen for games or video while driving.

You can (unbelievably) open the web browser while driving, so it could have been an online game?

Opening the web browser seems a reasonable thing to allow a passenger to do.

Obviously not a thing a driver should do except when the vehicle is parked.

Seems like a minority problem compared with the proportion of folks holding and using their cellphones in cars of all makes.

just because there are laws doesn’t mean people do what’s right.

You can buy devices that allow you to watch Netflix whilst driving along on your info screen

I once got a taxi from São Paulo airport to the city centre, and the taxi driver had five mobile phones on his dash and windscreen all showing different TV channels, mostly soaps. Subsequent trips showed this to be normal for taxis in SP.

I had a 2019 Model 3 until Nov 2021. In 2021 some time there was a games update which included missile command and backgammon was in there as well I think. In the same update I noticed there was an option in some games to continue playing when the car was in drive if you agreed that you were the passenger (which I thought was bonkers tbh). The car I had came with public charging in the price so I spent a lot of time sat at public chargers playing Missile command, beach Buggy Racing and watching Netflix, YouTube or BBC iplayer, all on the big screen.

You are effectively just a passenger

You can't drive autonomously, it's currently illegal, and for good reason, there have been some crashes and fatalities in testing in the US on public roads - the tech isn't quite ready yet, so the car shouldn't allow it anyway.

Even if the car technically 'could', you still have to 'drive' it, and if you are driving it you shouldn't be playing backgammon.

override a safety feature? In which case, the exiting laws apply 'due care and attention' or as if you were using a mobile phone, etc.

I hope there's a driving game that uses the steering wheel for input.

Musk's life already sound's like a country song. Wife's left him, company he bought going down the drain, rocket exploded.

When they get self-driving working properly even his truck is going to leave him...
