So, I'm a huge TP fan. Read all the discworld series of books. I picked up the Long Earth first book, and TBH i thought it was a bit meh.
Does the series get any better? Worth sticking with?
No idea, never made it past the first one. I've read just about everything he's written and loved it all but just couldn't get into it.
Sorry, not much help.
Does the series get any better?
No, not really. It's an interesting idea, but lacking any of the pratchett humour.
I loved this series! Book one got me hooked. Books 2 and 3 were the ones I enjoyed the most. I liked the implications for the economy when there's infinite earth's.
They're not particularly well written but the contents is good.
I didn’t think it got especially better or worse. Just sort if keeps wandering on with an interesting idea.
Decent enough sci-fi to keep me entertained through three books but not what I’d consider “Pratchett”.
To be fair, they're a collaboration with another author (Stephen Baker) so the Pratchett can ntent us boy d to be watered down to some extent.
I have all 3, but haven't read any of them as my book reading seems to have stalled, for various reasons.
no, it just goes back n forth. Gave up
I never got past the first one, I love pratchett and quite like baxter but tbh I'd have never guessed either were involved if not for their names on the cover, it didn't really have either pratchett's humour and heart and turn of phrase or baxter's long sight and scope and cold intelligence, even with basically infinite worlds it felt kinda small. Did like the airship though.
Like others, was completely underwhelmed. I fact I wasn't whelmed at all. It was shite. And Jonas or whatever his name is was pretty unlikeable as a character to boot.
I made it through the hunger games ffs, I never even managed the second book of this. If you hope it picks up don't waste your time, it doesn't.
If you are liking it though, don't listen to me, I'm just some prick on the internet.
I agree - it was less than the sum of its authors .
Does anyone else find pratchett a bit samey? I've read and enjoyed all the discworld books but it was diminishing returns as the same jokes reappear quite often .

Nope. I know what you mean but I just accept that as part of the world building. Old gags are used but there are usually plenty of new ones alongside them. He refers back to stuff maybe once in a book (eg. Guild of Seamstresses). I lf you want examples of kicking the arse out of something I can think of better examples.
I mean, look at this forum.
I mean, Look! At! This! Forum!
I mean, Luke at The Forum.
I mean Look at this Form.
I've recently finished this series, quite liked it.
As above don't bother if you're looking for Discworld type humour, it's a sci-fi series with some interesting concepts that are explored. Slow going, not massively exciting, meandering storyline that's not especially gripping, but it kept me going with enough interest to finish all 5 books. Not disappointed, just don't go in expecting normal Pratchett stuff (I've no idea about Stephen Baxter, never read any of his other work).
