Is there a better action film, or am I just old...
Aliens
Predator
But yeah it's good.
I always thought the first one was better
Yes, Terminator I, plus many others. Classic film, though.
so awesome I watched it too much as a kid and got sick of it.
shame as it is an incredible film.
Really appreciating the soundtrack. Sounds like it was recorded by banging hammers on old pipes.
First one was a better story was it more original more action in the second one though.
a better film......Terminator
TII is a big let down imho, john connor is a whiney little turd Im not convinced by him being either a computer hacker or a crosser riding street kid in any way, the set piece stunts are way OTT- im thinking of the truck chase in the drainage canal
linda hamiltons character is interesting and she plays it well
the premise of the T1000 is ok
the biggest issue is that Arnies star power has turned his character into a loveable good guy with half his lines played for laughs, the gritty nihlism of an apocalyptic future we saw in T1 peeks through occasionally but its just not enough to save it from the hollywood cheese
Camerons career has been on a downward spiral since Aliens imho
Some say "including" Aliens.
thanks, just starting on +1.
Terminator - every line of Arnie's is a classic
**** you, asshole
I'll be back
Your clothes - give them to me. Now
A total of 17 lines.
wash day tomorrow, nothing clean right?
Best film of all time, ground breaking Cgi at that period, James Cameron rules.
Had to go straight out and buy a Harley
"Say that's a nice bike"
The 12 gauge autoloader
The .45 long-slide with laser sighting
Phazed plastic rifle in 40-watt range
The Uzi nine-millimetre
All
Wrong
The only dirt bike with a 79 speed gearbox.
😀
Most of the cars in the fast and furious also have 79 speed gearboxes too
Many years ago, Empire reckoned that Arnie riding the bike while reloading the gun one-handed was one of the coolest moments in film.
the bit where he shoots open the lock on the gate.
too cool.
Prefer Commando. 🙂
Prefer Commando.
'Here- let off some steam'
Controversially,
Terminator > Terminator 2
Aliens > Alien
*dons flame-proof trousers*
Phazed plastic rifle in 40-watt range
Plasma.
ION,
For years the canal chase in T2 was my reference "show off my AV gear" scene. The thunder, followed by the silence, followed by the kiss of the swinging spark plug as it ignites, is just seminal.
Top Gun

"Cops!"
"How many?"
"All of them I think!"
Tango and Cash

Oh, yeah Aliens > Alien
P to the S to the A:
Terminator on C5 10pm tonight.
Aliens > Alien
If you prefer yeeha yank firepower action to tense psychological thrills then yes.
79 speed box, world's only 2 stroke XR, and the lamest throttle hand ever. Other than that, I like - Aliens is betterer though.
Alien > Aliens
Terminator > T2
The original is always the best. The only exception to this rule is Empire.
**** - I posted an opinion whilst watching a Harry Potter film. I have no right to an opinion. 🙁
The hammer banging sounds in the music are used in toy story 3 when they are in the waste dump near the end. They wanted to use the terminator music but they couldn't get permission so made some that sounded similar. I was sure it was the T2 music and had to google it.
T2 is an awesome film. The first two are both excellent.
best hammer soundtrack is in Easy Rider...
FFS! People, seriously!
Die Hard FTW!
Bruce Willis. In a vest.
Rickman. Hans Gruber.
Camp Germanic bad doodz with mullets.
Yippie kai yay........
Hell, even Die Hard 2 is awesomeness.
Still like the first Rambo film before it got all silly. Leon is also a cracking film with a stellar cast.
Alien>Aliens
Terminator>T2
AS an exception
Dark Knight>Dark Knight Rises>Batman Bigins >>>>>>>Any of the previous ones
Two of my action film guilty pleasures are 'Battleship' and 'Black Hawk Down'.
Sorry - I've killed yet another thread.
I snuck into T2 as a 14 year old...good times...
Heat, if only for the escape scene
no fire without movement, no movement without fire
Collateral
IMO Terminator>T2. Aliens>Alien.
I snuck into T2 as a 14 year old...good times...
me too!
Ronin.
Also, T1 is much better than T2. Only good thing in T2 is the guy who plays the liquid metal termie, he does the robot thing rather well.
T1 is partly influenced by a Philip K Dick story, which helps 🙂
A second post sent from the future to make the first one look silly.
Aliens > Alien, for me. I don't seem to have too much of an opinion regarding T2 vs Terminator, though. Like Househusband I did enjoy Black Hawk Down, though.

It was inspired by an episode of The Outer Limits.
At the time of release a Fangoria spread on the film pointed out that based on their nothing dead will go time travel tech, there's far too much hair present in both films.
Still a corker, though...

Hair isn't actually dead.
Predator is Arnie's finest by miles and I really rate it as the best blokes action/scifi film ever made. It's not the best story, best acting or anything like that but it is perfect for what it is. When it's on I watch it, I can't say the same for any of the Terminator films.
Hair isn't actually dead.
Well, that explains that away then...
Edit : Although a quick Google would suggest that the stuff on the outside of the scalp is dead. I have no idea as I'm not a biologist of any sort, but the general (mis ?)conception seems to be that it is.
Regardless, there's too much hair because it was filmed in the eighties, so I was, ultimately, correct...
But not how the Terminator can go through.

I thought he was wrapped in living tissue, wasn't he...?
I snuck into T2 as a 14 year old...good times...
I had it on video before its cinema release 🙂 I was 12
just watched Hunt for Red October then Star Trek (2009) on Film4.
2 great films!
thought he was wrapped in living tissue, wasn't he...?
Why would that matter though?
Why would that matter though?
So he can time travel.
Isn't this Terminator 101 - I thought everyone on this forum knew this geeky type of shit...
🙂
I've no idea and don't care to be honest it's pointless as it's just entertainment. It's nearly as bad as those complaining about the 79 gears on a motorbike but not questioning 2 cyborgs travelling through time.
Oooookay.
I love you too, sweetheart.
Mmmmmmuh
🙂
Still love Mad Max the first one only though.
The line "kick it in the guts Barry"
T1 is raw as ****, by comparison T2 is High School Musical
Cameron should have stopped making films after T1
Isn't this Terminator 101
That's either a massive accident or one of the greatest puns this forum's ever seen.
The most important thing to remember here is that it's a good job they didn't ruin it by making more Terminator films after T2 wrapped it up nicely.
Right?
RIGHT?
I snuck into T2 as a 14 year old...good times...
I snuck in as a 17 year old and after dropping a purple ohm. The melting molten metal scene at the end was awesome.

Yes that's correct - I also heard George Lucas was considering making 3 prequels to Star Wars - thank good he didn't do that, can you imagine?
I'm always grateful that Highlander never left itself open for a sequel.
If we're talking here about coll one liners, effects that still look good and a knowing script then surely Robocop requires a mention here. I could practically recite the whole film at 15 years old.
P.S. Everyone knows that Arnie's best film was Commando - 'I let him go', classic.
Vasquex in Aliens is Connors foster mum in T2 bit of Trivia for you.
one of the greatest puns this forum's ever seen.
Thank you, sir - that's quite an accolade considering some of the talent around this place.
I quite liked the sweetheart line, too, but it was lost on Drac. And the T.1 reference on the Stupid things you get asked in your job thread, but it just slipped into obscurity.
Last night, while watching the opening scene with the missus, I mouthed the What the hell, goddamn sonofabitch. What the hell... line with precise timing (I hadn't watched the film for many years before last night). She just glared at me out of the side of her neck.
I know - sad git...
I quite liked the sweetheart line, too, but it was lost on Drac.
It was and best of all it was posted pretty much on that scene, which I'm sure you knew.

Its a Phase PLASMA rifle in a 40watt range.
I'm quite the fan of stealth pop culture references, I do it sometimes just to see who's paying attention.

Phased.
which I'm sure you knew
Nope. Watching the news channel at that time IIRC.

I know; it's good stuff.
🙂
wtf are all you guys on, Wrath of Khan > all the above, although T2 comes close 😀
Khan is total shatner by comparison...
Nope. Watching the news channel at that time IIRC.
Good timing then.
I did the quote of the guy driving the dump truck too with perfect timing, I bet it's 15 years since I've seen the original.
🙂
We iz sad
I prefer the Bourne and Matrix movies myself, but most of those mentioned had something that got them noticed.
