It makes me happy...

I've got to do Margarita on a large scale this Saturday, so...

1. Which Tequila for Margarita? planning on juicing fresh limes and using cointreau. And remember I'm on a budget, as I said, this is for a lot...

2. AND... where from, it seems supermarkets only sell 50cl bottles at the same price (or more) than 70cl bottles used to be last time I bought it...

Help please...

Jose Cuervo Gold and/or silver tequila should do it.
Enjoy margueritaville!

if youre going to the trouble of juicing limes and real cointreau you might as well get some decent tackle. better to find a specialist shop or drinksdirect.co.uk have a good selection, & amazon even. Supermarket choice is limited and tends to be pretty nasty.

use the squozen lime wedges to moisten the rim of the glasses and dip em in a tray of salt!

nowt better than a good Margarita done right

As an avid tequila fan, IMO it'd be a waste to put the good stuff in a margarita. As said, get Jose Cuervo or similar, stay away from that stuff with the plastic hat for a lid and you'll be good. Maybe try Costco for bulk purchasing.

theres a misconception about Tequila. most of us have had bad experiences of the rancid shit they gave you shots of back in the day which have stayed with us. but a good one can be really nice and smooth.. and a proper margarita is mega!

Definitely agree with jaffejoffer on good tequila being a million miles from the pound a shot stuff from your uni days and what's available in most supermarkets. It might be worth getting some decent stuff to let people drink neat (not a shot!) if they want to. This would be a fairly good, fairly low budget shout if you want to go that route. If you want to go higher budget you'll probably need to do a bit more research to steer away from the stuff that's way overpriced (Patron, Don Julio etc). Personally I like Cazadores and Herradura for the price, but there are many brands that are well-liked that I've not got around to trying.

For bulk production of margaritas for people who may well be completely indifferent to the quality of tequila that goes in, you can't go far wrong with this one for the price. Cheaper than José Cuervo and certainly no worse.

So it turns out Waitrose (natch) has El Jimador Reposado on offer at £17

Any issues using the Reposado version?

I was just going to say get to Waitrose as they have an extraordinarily decent range of Tequila for some reason and often offers. Love a good Tequila, people think I am odd putting it in a hip flask (can't drink whisky after a bad session). The supermarket ones will often be the cheaper line but can't help with if they are any good or not.

Not sure there is much point in putting decent stuff in a mixed drink but then again it would probably make it much smoother and enjoyable to drink rather than something that gets knocked back to get drunk. Don't spend too much but get something half decent if it's a few £ more.
