Im  considering  a naturehike mongar 2person, but in the colour I want and expandable awning they only do in 15D flysheet.

Is that good enough for uk mountains and rain, or do you need 20D?

That is quite a good question. I had a terra nova solar that is 10d according to current specs. It was a few years ago so could have been thicker then although the weight is apparently the same. I used it in the alps in heavy rain and sub zero conditions, it was fine. I also have a terra nova Voyager ultralight, it's apparently 30d. It's had heaps of year round use, Scottish/alps etc and now leaks a bit and I regularly reproof it. It is obviously thicker material than the solar which was practically see through.

So id say the thinner deniers are probably ok but probably not as long lasting, especially from UV degrading. Trade off is weight.

I think the important thing is the design/shape of the tent, in other words is it strong enough to withstand rough weather. If it isn't, a thicker material isn't going to help much
