Morning all

I'm in France for the week and got to thinking that I maybe able to save some money on a new tent while here. I'm guessing Decathlon is the french Milletts type affair and would ve easy enough to find, any others to look out for?

Were staying in La Rochelle for the next couple of nights then heading back to Calais on Saturday or Sunday if that helps?

Cheers 🙂

Decathlon is the budget store, normally one in every big town. They tend to do budget ranges from well known brands. I would do some research on what you want and see if you can find that in a store there. It should be cheaper than the UK.

Enjoy La Rochelle, its great. FYI a trip to Ile de Rey is well worth it.

Was just about to write that, absolutely beautiful place. Sod saving a few quid on a tent, you can do that on the internet on a rainy Tuesday night when you get back.

I've bought a couple of tents from Decathlon in France. For some bloody reason we always end up in there.
Pricing is fairly similar to the UK but you can save a bit with the exchange rate. i think we ended up saving £30 on a 4 person pop up with porch.
I've not seen many other camping shops in France. I guess that's why every French person i've met on a campsite has a pop up Decathlon tent (usually undersized with a beach towel hanging off the front and a grumpy teen smoking outside).

Decathlon is pretty much all you need and all you'll find other than supermarkets around La Rochelle as it's not a big hiking area so you won't find many specialist retailers. My folks live just north of there, lovely area if a bit hot and crowded at the height of the season.
