hora jnr school has 1 week extra off than other schools so I was 'hoping' we'd avoid the expense that flights/places add (I'd prefer to book seperate flights and place if possible).

Any recommendations for a family to stay and bike to hire etc?

Should I focus on road or is mountain biking good there?

We've booked in Las Palmas for the week before half term, the flight came down from £540 (half term week) to £85 return, plus accommodation (BSO bikes provided) by AirBnB. Apart from spendies, the whole lot comes in at under £500. Result.

Check out Lavatrax for MTB (can suggest accommodation too). Volcanic, rocky terrain.. bedrock through to loose, marbly stuff.. 😉

Not a fan of Tenerife myself as it's rather comercialised. Used to go years ago but much prefer Fuerteventura now, these guys have a good reputation http://www.lavatrax.com/ on Tenerife. Much prefer the laid back vibe in Fuerte, depends what you are looking for out of your holiday. A few Fuerte photos to peruse,

If you choose Fuerte take plenty of body armour. The volcanic rock cuts like razor blades if you fall off. I'm talking from experience! 😳

Lavatrax are really good, did the 'Los Retamares Descent' route which was perfect. Got a lift up to the start (2300m) and it was downhill all the way to the coast 😀

@downhill can you message me any details you have or post here. We nearly went to Fuertaventura last year and are seriously considering it this, for March BTW if you have any comments on the weather. @hora access/flights are one thing to consider it's harder to get to than Tenerife which is one of it's benefits too.

Yeh you can both drop me a mail. Done the touristy areas but much prefer the small Spanish towns Lajares and El Cotillo in the north, also know a guide/ bike hire guy. I'm not connected Btw. Email in profile guys.

Cheers Dave for giving me your time and your tangent suggestion of La Palma

Jesus thats one lush looking place.

I'm going to look at riding/holidaying there. I love riding in woods/forests too.

I'm in Fuerta at the moment. Will look up lavatrax as I could do with a ride. Its bloody freezing, overcast and blowing a hooly so I'm keeping out of the water!
