You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
In our utility there is a standard bathroom style (square) extractor fan. Building regs required it given there is a sink in there. In winter a cold draught therefor comes in and make the room cold.
Given it is very rarely used I'd like to put a temp cover over it to help cut down the draft that comes through it. Temp is the ideal so if ever we do need it i can simply reach up and remove it without any phaff.
I thought i'd be able to find some sort of thin square cover made from rubber or some thin insulated material with an elasticated hem that I could simply stretch over the internal grill/plate that would stop the draft. Alas i can't find anything on google.
Does such a thing exist? If not any other simple ideas for an easy way to achieve the same result?
Why not an external cover with gravity flaps?
Is the normal way not to use louvres on the output side which close when the fan is off?
Which then rattle to high heaven in the wind.....just got rid of my gravity flaps for that reason.
You get extractors with built in baffles that open when turned on. That's how I would do it these days.

I just placed a 2mm wide, 1mm thick strip of stick on foam around the edges of each flap. The weight doesn't seem to impair the function and it doesn't rattle.
Mine also has an internal plastic draft guard, but I had to put something on the outside anyway so it doesn't end up full of wasps in summer. I figured it would rattle, so did the above before fitting it.
Small shower cap...?
