I like knowing weird stuff, from any area of life - huge knowledge gaps in electronicy things, physics and accountancy.....

My contribution; if one limb is good and the other injured you can exercise the good one with your eyes shut, visualize both working and you'll enhance the neural drive (thus gaining strength) in the injured one.

If you have 7000 people, most of them _highly_ educated*, 500 of them will be daft enough to open suspicious attachments that have arrived in spam emails.

Muppets.

(*) Cranberry != highly educated

A German manufactured concrete block production unit produces concrete block cakes 6m long, 1.5m wide and 0.625m deep. These cakes are then cut into 468x 4" concrete blocks.

It can produce 230 of these cakes every 24hrs or 108,000 concrete blocks.

When building high speed servers, critical section locking mechanisms are not as easy as you would initially think. Multi threading of the core processes means that one lock can seize the whole system up and they are incredibly hard to find through debug logs alone.

When we squeeze you to make cuts to your budget we're normally squirrelling that money away to sort out your balls ups later in the year.

Overall the business will be okay but we'll give you a hard time for missing your budget anyway.

Wood as fuel contains a net calorific value of 18.3 MJ per Kg. At 45% moisture content that equates to 2.5 kWh per Kg. But if you used dried wood of only 8% moisture content you get nearly 5kWh per Kg.

Biodiesel on the other hand has an energy density of about 9kWh per Litre.

Thats the equivalent of 37 bushel perches per yard of energy or 279 ponypowers in Imperial.

Torminalis - yeah deadlocks are a sod to track down

OK. Most people think that Space systems are cutting-edge technology. While space-science is cutting edge, space-engineering is quite conservative. This is because satellites are really expensive to make and launch, you can't afford to lose them (often). So there is pressure to use old-fashioned, but trusted technology.

The crucible of cutting edge software is the Internet.

LMI indicated that whilst construcion industry accounts for 9 % of local employees it only employs 3.4 % of young people [under 20].

We can suggest people volunteer to go on a support/intervention programme but we cannot force them. If they then refuse to volunteer we then have grounds to force them but we still stress it is volutary.

IF techy IT consultants had the nerve to speak to each other and were able to communicate like normal human beings, there would be a considerable reduction in the need for project managers. We just act as a human interface between nerds and the rest of the world.

Everyone thinks that the hourly rate for IT consultants is massively inflated. It isn't.

2.5 million properties in England and Wales are at risk from flooding.
The largest illegal tyre dump is near Knighton, Powys, holds 10 million tyres and is still burning/smouldering 21 years after it caught fire in 1989. It simply cannot be put out.

The high visibility edge markings on the ramp of a bus complying with the Disability Discrimination Act should be plain yellow if it is DDA2, but can be yellow, or yellow and black, if it is DDA1.

The picture of a wheelchair on the notice marking the position of the wheelchair space on a DDA bus should be facing the same way as the wheelchair is intended to face.

Any full body graphics applied to the windows of a bus should not be less than 5mm from the edge of any window that is designated as an emergency exit.

Starting next year, all new 5p and 10p coins will be made of nickle coated steel, instead of cupronickle (75% copper, 25% nickle) and will, in order to keep the same weight so banks don't have to change weighing equipment, be 0.2mm thicker. This will save the Royal Mint £7-8m a year.

It will however, mean any machine that accepts these coins will need re-programming to accept the new coins.

The new coins will, for the first time, be magnetic.

There are already steel coated 2p and 1ps in existance, pass a magnet over your change and you'll find them.

When big companies 'invest' in new technologies the developers need to be really careful about exclusivity: there's massively more money in it in the short-term but the new owners will seal the technology in a box, hide it in a warehouse and continue to milk the market for billions from traditional kit.

This is notwithstanding the fact that the new technology can be cheaper to use, cheaper to produce, almost energy-free and can be used even in places with no running water.

Contrary to popular belief, cutting the air lines between a truck and trailer will not cause it to run away with no brakes.

If the red air line is cut, the trailer brakes will be automatically applied.

If the yellow air line is cut, next time the driver applies the foot brake, the truck brakes won't release.

Flatulence is funny, yet deadly:-
"Most component have low or no toxicity with the exception of Carbon dioxide which "At about 8% it causes headache, sweating, dim vision, tremor and loss of consciousness after exposure for between five and ten minutes." and flatulence can contain up to 30% of it but only for a very short period (few seconds) ; also to consider is diffusion which is linked to proximity and inhalation quantity."

And if I've signed a document - I can actually go to prison - which is scary!

You can drive a bus with an HGV licence, but only with no passengers and only in connection with the maintenance of the bus (road tests, taking it to MOT test etc.).

You can drive a breakdown truck with a PSV licence, but only in connection with the recovery of a bus (to the breakdown and back to the depot).
