Probably clutching at thin air, but is there a digital equivalent to the "Tell us once" service?
Trying to deal with a friends estate & have found his little black book of passwords, but it's all scribbles, various email addresses & I know he hasn't even used a mobile phone for over a year, no idea if he has PayPal or anything else to be fair, does it even matter if I get his bank accounts closed anyway?
Never heard of "Tell us once" so no idea what you are trying to do.
You might get a better response if you provide more details of what outcome you are hoping for...

Not sure if this will do want you want to do
Registrar did it all for us when we did registered Dad's death.
Rightly or wrongly I did find that it was easier with some places online to be my dad, when it came to closing accounts, selling shares and selling his car as it was easier to deal with it that way than getting another letter from solicitor at £50 a go confirming he had passed.

You shouldn't need to? Order a bunch of death certificates for however many accounts you need to wrap up.. more than you think you might need. That should be enough?
some places wanted copy of death cert with accompanying letter from the solicitor confirming that I was authorised to act on my late dads behalf.
Nobody I dealt with when my dad died insisted on a letter. In fact nobody even asked for one.
@dickyboy there is no service to do what you want, I suggest getting into his emails and just doing everything manually. Most of the big places are very simple to just close the account. Someone will be along to tell you that's illegal or some bollocks but it's the only pain free (from an operational perspective) way to do it.
Sorry for your loss.

Hmm, yes, being a lazy, rude prick is probably exactly the kind of response the OP needed, bravo!
@squirrelking - thanks that's what I was thinking ☹️ managed to get into one email account that appears to be current which helps a lot & there is a death notification service that works for some financial organisations but nothing to bin off his online presence one one easy move ☹️
Maybe one learning from this is that we should all ensure our affairs are in good order and the appropriate people know where the essential information is.
A timely reminder that I need to do this so that's a task for the festive break; not exactly a festive activity but will be time well spent.
Sorry for your loss bud.
The Tell us Once service is really good for local authority, bank accounts, DWP, DVLA etc. It can't as far as I remember encompass private matters such as pay pal accounts or probate matters.

Yup, password managers are actually good for this as once you have the master password you get a list of all accounts. Of course that's also the weakness but it's the risk you accept.
Also good to get rid of all those dormant accounts and get rid of irrelevant paperwork!
Outside of the tell it once service and dealing with Sky (very good) and Plusnet (shite) to close accounts I don't think we bothered with anything else (after my father died last year). Something like Paypal might be a bit more of a concern (but I know he didn't have anything like that) but otherwise I can't say there was anything that would have bothered me if it had been left open/working and then hacked or something in future (his email was from Plusnet so hopefully shouldn't get spam from his address 5 years from now!).
