I hadn't heard of this annoying infliction until I diagnosed myself with it last week.
Probably caused by running, or bending my foot funny at home.
Specifically interested in hearing how yours cleared up quickly and didn't come back.

Nobody?
This place usually comes up trumps for niche medical conditions so I'm surprised.
Sesamoiditis - a self diagnosed pain in the big toe joint?
Why are you sure it’s not gout? Maybe see a doctor to get a definitive opinion.
Potentially a symptom of Hemochromatosis - arthritis of some of the extremetity joints - usually knuckles of the fingers or big toes.
Worth a quick check of iron (SeFn) levels regardless, as it's one of those conditions that is trivially easy to treat if found early but very damaging / fatal if found late i.e. once major symptoms present.

Because I've had gout and it's not that. Symptoms are exactly as described for sesamoiditis.
And I don't go and see the GP with every minor sports injury. Do you? Seems a bit wasteful.
Take it seriously is what I say - go see a specialist and get an X-ray to make sure it's not fractured. If you can wear an airboot for a couple of weeks then do so.
I didn't after my feet swelled in an ultra distance cycling race - putting pressure on the ball of my foot. I carried on riding and when I got home largely ignored it - I ended up with a necrose sesamoid which causes me lots of ****ing pain and headache in the long run. If I had rested in the months after the original injury I would have probably been fine.
I'm avoiding surgery to have it removed for now as I fight the arthritis train in the rest of my body.
Take is as a lesson that you are doing something wrong to your feet - look at the shape of your shoes and your feet in general. Altra shoes are your friend - start looking at how much control you have of your big toe... go see a special podiatrist who believes in barefoot techniques and making your feet strong.
Potentially a symptom of Hemochromatosis
Reading up cheers.
