Looking to patch the garden with some seed but it is for a shaded area (hence the patching in the first place). Any recommendations for a hardy grass seed that is suitable for shaded areas.

And accept my apologies for a stunningly boring question.

Decent turf can be had very cheap and saves waiting watching it grow.

Alternatively I've just used Wilkinsons stuff that you put in a bag yourself. Its cheap and it grows.

Go to garden centre, ask for grass seed for shady area, job done.

I turfed it all last year and it is mostly doing fine (ie, I don't want or need to re-turf it all) - it's just a small patch below a west-facing wall that isn't getting enough sun and I assume some grass is better at dealing with it.

You see, that would be the sensible answer 🙂

Seriously - time doesn't always allow me to go to a garden centre during daylight hours so I was planning on ordering online (so wanted to be sure I was getting the best thing for the job).

OK, go to online garden centre/diy shed. Search for 'shady grass seed' and buy that! 😀

Shady sites are always hit & miss for lawns though - it'll never be as robust/good looking as a better lit area and will usually tend to suffer more if it stays wet & so gets mossy or boggy.

How about just using the affected area as a planting bed rather than lawn - could be less work in the long run.

B&Q is your friend.

I got a box of the stuff to repair a patch of the lawn that had been killed by having a stone trough dumped on it for 18 months.

Read the instructions, ignore them, dump the entire contents of the box in the dirt, go on holiday for a week, come back to a jungle. Job done. 🙂

Lots of places sell it, but remember kids, it's illegal to germinate it.
